Just found out that Billy passed away at 96. I watched H.R. Pufnstuf from 69 to its last episode. I then turned my attention to a bunch of groovy animals...Banana split show.. Thank you Witchipoo!!
@Mike Campbell Agreed! 👍🏻 - 👉 I was fan of General Hospital of the "80's and Billy Hayes played a character named "O'Reilly" and at the time I never knew it was Witchipoo that played they part but looking back on it now, it's so easy to see that it was her! - God rest her soul 🙏
Wilhelmina W WitchiePoo you gave me so many laughs as a kid,I will never forget you.Your life’s mission was capturing Freddie The Flute and boinking Orson & Seymour in the head with your wand! You will live in all our treasured memories you gave to us Saturday mornings in the 70’s. Although that mirror you held so tightly wishing for compliments cracked when your evilness looked into it, to me you were one beautiful villian. Rest In Peace 🙏
She first did it in a commercial in the early 1950s When I get caning for Witchiepoo they told the actress's to keep low She came and did the laugh and was hired
One of the nicest person that I met. The loved she had for animals. She was such a nice person. Love you Billie. You are now with your fur babies in Heaven. Forever in our hearts.
I absolutely couldn't agree more. Perhaps it's the wide open full throttle nature of a pure heart that shines so brilliantly. I miss seeing them both sorely
There you have two beautiful women just talking and having fun. I didn't realize that Billie hayes is a pretty woman. Full of energy. Rest in peace Billie.
Thank you BILLIE HAYES for doing your part to help tame mankind with your gift and talent. Your "Witchiepoo" and "Mammy Yokem" were the best!! Your legacy is sealed..
I loved Billie Hayes. But please check out other Bobbie Wygant Interviews. She is fantastic! Very Happy, Non-Threatening, everyone Loved Her May You Rest in Peace Bobbie
Huge bowl of cereal an a glass of Tang an glued to the tv for saturday morning toonies an Billie Hayes esp. As Witchiepoo made it even better . No one could pull witchiepoo off better than her. Fly high on your broom broom . Rest peacefully.
I wonder how God put so much charm, charisma and LIFE into such a small lady. I got tired just watching her! So much life! Love her! Hope she is sleeping peacefully!
All these years and never paid attention to Billie Hayes the actress. Wichy Poo made the show. She has me in stiches more now than when I was a kid. RIP.
What a lovely interview. I’m just taken aback by how sweet she is, and how she probably couldn’t stop being sweet, even when playing the supposedly scary witch.
I was an outlier as it pertains to watching the show. The neighborhood was deserted while H.R. Pufnstuf was on. The same phenomenon was in place when Dark Shadows had its run. Still, I knew this lady who portrayed Witchiepoo, the late, great Billie Hayes.
I was about 5 or 6 years old when H.R. Pufnstuff premiered on Saturday mornings. I didn't realize until I was older that Witchie Poo was played by a woman. I thought Billie Hayes was a man.
She seems quite warm and winning, a genuine soul. Man, it must have been fun (once the makeup, hat and costume were all applied) for this lady to get wicked and groovy as that Witchiepoo character. An actor could have a ball with that cartoony and manic creation.
Billie was a unique talent and a beautiful human being. She was just as good at drama as she was comedy. I remember when she played the doomed WSB agent O’Reilly the summer of 1981 on General Hospital. Her character was killed off after being shot several times by an assassin. Her death scene with Tristan Rogers as Robert Scorpio was heartbreaking. They just don’t make actresses like her any more.
@skipeastport5529 Wow! I thought I was the only one who remembered that! I loved GH back in the day. Longtime viewer circa 1978ish. Tristan and Billie were great together! Must have been enjoyable to work with. Gosh, thinking about all this takes me back. You are right - they don’t make actresses like her anymore. Her voice was so recognizable. RIP “O’Reilly” aka Billie Hayes.
I'd never seen an interview with Billie before, out of character, no makeup, what a charming, classy lady. She is sorely missed.
Billie Hayes is so beautiful

Pretty eyes and smile(teeth).

Banana splits rocked.
I was 4 years old when H R Pufnstuf first aired. I watched all those shows
I just found out right now, I have not heard about her for decades, I am glad to see she had lived a good long life, RIP Billie!
OMG I didn’t know she died!!! I usually keep up on all those things. Wow and 96! Loved her. What a lovely lady.
OMG, brilliant! I've never seen Witchie Poo out of character! She scared the bajeezus out of me as a kid! 🤭🤣😁
Same here. She was beautiful I thought in the bewitched episode when Samantha changed her.
RIP Billie Hayes--thanks for decades of nuttiness.
I liked that show a lot but I love her playing that part witchiepoo thank you for sharing

She first did it in a commercial in the early 1950s

One of the nicest person that I met. The loved she had for animals. She was such a nice person. Love you Billie. You are now with your fur babies in Heaven. Forever in our hearts.
she's also with her friends who made us laugh for sid and marty who passed on
one of the best TV witches of all time
She looks like she was quite a character on and off screen. Seems like a lovely person.
Her hilarious acting and likeness somehow reminded me of Irene Ryan, the granny in the Beverly Hillie Billies.
I think she tried out for the role of granny but Irene Ryan got the job...
I absolutely couldn't agree more. Perhaps it's the wide open full throttle nature of a pure heart that shines so brilliantly. I miss seeing them both sorely
she played granny on the Monkees hillbillies episode
Billie was just gorgeous. My type of girl. Boy oh boy
We love you and miss you so much. Thank you for all the years of entertainment.

Billie Hayes was so youthful. She was 45 years old in this interview. 🥰
This really has a Once Upon A Time In Hollywood vibe. She really is so attractive. An amazing lady.
Loved Witchie Poo and all the shows of The Krofft Supershow.
She also played the character of the genie in the tv show Lidsville with Butch Patrick and Charles Nelson Reilly. Great actress.❤️
Weenie the genie
I grew up on HR Pufnstuff. Even though it was only one season.
That tan! Young people today probably don't realize how much we used to bake in the sun to get that look
H.R Pufnstuf..enjoyable viewing always in the 1970s.. RIP Billie Hayes..

What a lovely interview. I’m just taken aback by how sweet she is, and how she probably couldn’t stop being sweet, even when playing the supposedly scary witch.

Billie makes me wish I were 40 years older. I would have asked her out. ❤️ I preferred her as Weenie the Genie, she was cute and nice.
I was an outlier as it pertains to watching the show. The neighborhood was deserted while H.R. Pufnstuf was on. The same phenomenon was in place when Dark Shadows had its run. Still, I knew this lady who portrayed Witchiepoo, the late, great Billie Hayes.
What an awesome personality. I bet she was fun to be around.
What a sweetie
I miss her so much
Rip/VIP 🌹🧸🌹 always be the best

@Robert Jensen I was just a little kid. My brain didn't think that deeply at ages 5 and 6.
She seems quite warm and winning, a genuine soul. Man, it must have been fun (once the makeup, hat and costume were all applied) for this lady to get wicked and groovy as that Witchiepoo character. An actor could have a ball with that cartoony and manic creation.
