  • Yes, that's what the deputy sheriff told me. Hachita, NM is apparently a haven for Mexican drug cartels. Stay away!
    By the way. Here is an insane article promoting Hachita as a tourist destination. Per the article:
    "The streets of Hachita are unpaved. Residents drive their pickup trucks slowly so as not to stir up dust-the modern descendant of a tradition in the West to ride horses slowly past a campsite. Going slowly also gives you time to avoid the jackrabbits and quail as they scurry across the road. There’s really no reason to hurry here."
    Here is a link to this stunning piece of journalism (misinformation):

    On my way back from janos, Mexico my car broke down 13 south of 81. Well I can't tell you how wonderful everyone that lives in Hachita was from Jeff the owner of the Hachita market to Daniel and Andrea and others whose name I can't recall. Everyone so welcoming and willing to lend a hand offering me a place to spend the night and making phone calls to try to get my truck hauled and tied to my trailer...Thank you all for watching over my truck while I came back to Phoenix to pick up my trailer...Hachita folks you are awesome!!❤

      @@JMMGarza Yeah no shit. It's close to being a ghost town. Is it supposed to be profound that you think it's somehow "lackluster"? I mean in reality every town and city in the Southwest is lackluster, from Scottsdale to El Paso. Nothing but shithole subrubs, shithole towns or over-priced pretentious crap like Santa Fe. I don't see why "Hachita" which again is a literal Ghosttown, is singled out for being "lackluster". Why not do another expose of your typical single story sprawling shit-hole that is numerous among the settlements of the American Southwest. Like...Las Cruces?

    Hi Mr Garza. My Grandma and Grandpa lived in Hachita my whole life. It’s a wonderful magical place. I’ve lived there as a kid and after getting out of the Navy as an adult too. My mom and dad have lived there most of their lives. I just want to kindly say that there is no cartel action in Hachita. It gets some shady characters moving through once in a while, but there isn’t any criminality going on by any locals. 😂 Have a blessed day. ❤ ps. That deputy you talked to was clueless. He was making an assumption. 🤣

    I can't wait to go back to Hachita, NM. I heard in August it's quite pleasant. This time around, I will capture more video of the infrastructure or lack thereof. I think an hour or two in town should be good enough. A trip to the sheriff's office would be a bonus. Instead of a 5:34 video, a 20 minute vignette. Thanks for your friendly comments. I look forward to interviewing Hachita residents next time around. Not just a sheriff's deputy. Hopefully the locals will be amenable. Don't forget to like, subscribe and share. Thanks.

    I worked that border a few times on horseback in the early 2000's. Beautiful nights and hot, dry days...and I miss it.
    The desert isn't for everyone. Yes, even then there was some cartel presence, but this little "town" isn't a descent crossing point. There's too much hard terrain to make it practical.
    However, lack of law enforcement makes it truly part of the "Wild West"... just not quite as wild as it once was.

    All I can say about this little bit of idiocy is Libel Time! I grew up in this area and still have family there and there is NOT nor has there ever been any "Drug & Human Trafficking Cartel" in this town. Your source of information is questionable if you got the name of the town right. Everyone knows everyone else and probably grew up with their family unless someone new retires here because they crave the quiet life. People that work from here either work for the ranches around or the state and yes all the roads are dirt and always will be dirt but take a look at the video-they are well maintained dirt! I believe the town Garza got mixed up with Hachita is Columbus which he said he had come thru on his way to go to Animas. Columbus has had its share of trouble with cartels. Google "Columbus NM trouble with cartels" to verify this then do the same for Hachita. Anyway Mr Garza, you owe the residents of Hachita an apology, and I'm glad to hear you couldn't be paid to live there. They probably couldn't be paid to have you.

  • @HankChinaski27
    @HankChinaski27 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I'm glad I'm not the only one saying no...it is not a "cartel border town." Most of the cartel people down here want nothing to do with any towns I've found in my years down here. They stick to the desert until they get to or past I-10. I know...I see them weekly running behind my property or on the roads when I'm going to Road Forks or Animas. Towns are too hot for cartel presence. Animas and Chiricahua Valley are where we get most of our traffic here...some more across the border of AZ down near Naco and Bisbee also seems to have a lot of traffic. Like another poster said, the mountain passes below make it an ill-advised crossing, not to mention it is like 20 miles from a Homeland Security training camp in Playas which I would imagine would be a dangerous proposition for criminals.

    I lived in Hachita for only one summer doing seasonal wildlife work in the area and honestly I find this video to be very out of touch, and horribly offensive. Hachita is not abandoned, and it is certainly not a “cartel town”. The people who live there are some of the kindest and most unique individuals I have ever met. To hear you talk about them as if they are animals and record their homes like zoo exhibits breaks my heart. You drove past a place I called home filled with lots of joy and memories, recorded it, and said “Everyone look how horrible it must be to live here! There’s no possible way anyone could want to live here!” Can you imagine how you would feel if someone did that to you?
