    I used to ride around on one of these things way back in the day when I was about 12-13 (58 years ago). Our neighbour had an orchard that he used his for, for spraying with a reciprocating pump that mounted on the back that was driven by the PTO shaft and fed from a tank trailer that he towed behind. The neighbour on the other side had strawberry fields the rows in which he planted to accomodate the width of the tracks. He also used it for planting the strawberries too with a sit-on planter that was attached by a lifting hitch. These things were fairly common back then and popular with strawberry growers in the area. (southern England).

    Remember father owned a M G 2 when I was about 8 years old, To cultivate a huge piece of land, The crank start would sometimes kick back and your wrists would be caught between the front bumper and the starting handle, We only ever had problems with the magneto but that was repaired and never was no more trouble, This all happened back in the 1960. Great litter crawler with rubber on the tracks so you were able to run it on hard road surfaces,

    Great little machines. The boatmen used to use them on the Isle of Wight (at Sandown Bay and Seagrove Bay) to haul the hire boats up the beach at the end of the day. That would have been in the sixties and early seventies. I guess most of those would have suffered from rust badly because of the salt, and the sand would have worn the tracks badly.

    As a 14/15 year old kid living on a farm I used to drive one of these Ransome crawlers shimming cabbages and cauliflowers. It never misswd a beat but my word did it drink petrol, I was forever walking across the field beck to the farm with a gerry can. Happy days.

    Solid little machine ! it’s always nice to have some thin spanners ! never throw one away, they can be converted into all sorts of shapes and sizes.

    • @michaelguerin56
      @michaelguerin56 ปีที่แล้ว

      Too true. As a carpenter, I hang onto the weird flat metal spanners provided with sliding door hardware; and some other odd bits of installation hardware. They have saved me road trips and work time, more than once. When I have a surplus, they can go to apprentices or other tradesmen, at need.

    I like your handiwork and your filmmaking as well. The part of your hand you use to strike things is full of nerve endings which can accumulate damage and not show it for some time; caveat emptor.
