It’s like the universe is so on his side, he has all these amazing coincidences, but he still keeps digging his hole…
I really love how this show progressively shows you that Barry is just as bad as the bad guy he doesn't want to admit he is.
At the start, he seems to be a good dude in a bad game, then you start to see that no, he is just a bad dude that does bad shit.
"start to see" when he's already murdered 2 innocent people in s1 alone and in the 1st episode he was going to murder an innocent person and the only reason he didn't is because someone else got to him first
@PiecefulKaos well of course, but most people ignore that cuz he's the protagonist and wants to believe that he's good. He's always been bad, but usually, it takes until season 3 for people to realize that he truly is a bad dude
@@PiecefulKaos Yeah it's that Walter White effect, the moment he decided he wanted to be in the life he became the bad guy, but because he's the protagonist and made excuses for himself we fool ourselves and pretend he's good or at least redeemable
@@pabloc8808honestly it seems like the roshi gang is still under the WW effect with Barry a little bit, even tho it's slowly changing. Hopefully they realize he's always been the bad guy sooner rather than later.
@@patrickherschberger6728 Yeah I jumped ship back in season 1, back when we all thought this was gonna be about a guy who wanted out of the life and would keep getting into wacky situations that would put him in trouble. Then he shot Chris and staged a suicide. Nope.
The last scene on Gene's couch is one of my favourite moments of the series

@@X3MAntics But they weren’t arguing with each other? When Barry couldn’t get what he wanted, he quite literally backed her against the wall and screamed at her. Maybe if they both were yelling at each other I’d see your point, but that’s not how it went. That argument was extremely one-sided, and seeing it as “oh just something couples do!” is such a dangerous mindset to have.
@@Green1sh01 They literally adressed this in the show. Like, who are you gonna call? What are you gonna do? It isn't a crime to yell at someone. Depending on the situation, best you could do is politely ask if they need help. If they decline. That's your signal to keep it moving.
In this particular case, it's easy to for you to say "yes, you should do something." That's because as an audience we know what's behind the kitchen. But IRL, you've no actual grounds to pry into people's business just because their spouse is violently yelling at them. You don't know their story.
In a lot of cases, being nosy could actually get YOU hurt. But you do what you feel you must. That's also your business.
There's a podcast that tells you about the scene when Barry's at Sally's office where there's so much stuff going on, from it being a perspective of the teen girl, to how the camera slowly backs away from Barry when he starts to lose it.

Yeah it's classic abuse victim behavior like with her old boyfriend. She convinces herself it's her fault for making him mad, so she tries to do nice things to earn his love back. Just a vicious cycle

I 100% disagree with the "mind your business". Yes, it's ultimately Sally's choice. But it's also people's choice as people who care about each other to warn others. Yeah, reporting behind someone's back is probably not good. But warning is at least advisable.
U bring it up wit the person who’s being abused because u can’t do nothing if u report it and they say they not being abused and also it could get u hurt and it’s not a crime to yell someone because u don’t know the full context
Listen it’s not a crime to yell at someone in public also u should ask the person who’s being abused instead trying to be a hero because u could get hurt and u could misjudge the situation and if u do report him and she say she not being abused what u going to do then so if u ask her and she says no even if u know she lying as bad as it sounds u have to move on and mind your business because what are u going to do
Also that girl didn’t have the full context so the best u could do is be suspicious and it’s sad but I 100% agree mind ur business
In her situation the actress did the right thing, aka report to HR that someone else partner showed up in the working space and verbally abused the employee, at that point is up to HR to follow up with Sally for context, need of counseling, or even police involvement.
It's just yelling. Stop being mad.

Yes, "mind yo business". I see folks in the comments thinking to the contrary. Most folks don't understand the majority of the time you just making that person want to stay and stick it out. At the end of the day, like Sheera says, that person has to do what they need to do, it's like addiction, they have to make the choice. Your interference will hardly ever force them to do anything, specially in this day of social media, it's worse, you can cause them to feel sympathy towards their abuser, it will just cause a vicious cycle.

It's not just a comedy though. Theres definitely moments, especially in season 3 and 4, that are meant to be taken serious as a drama. It's a dramedy.

@@patrickherschberger6728 Seeing my Mother, sisters, and every other black female I’ve interacted describe their own abuse in such a causal manner and seeing the public ridicule Terry Crews suffered after coming out with his experience, I have enough evidence to say otherwise. Being abused is seen as a weakness. Not just a black problem, but it is a problem clearly shown here. Barry is a comedy but there is nothing funny about that moment.
@@8ball279 I dont disagree with the overall sentiment. I'm white myself, but I've grown up around the black community my whole life and there a multitude of stimgas that would usually not be as normalized elsewhere. Abuse is definitely one of those bad things that are treated as normal.
I just wouldn't agree that Roshi and them contribute to that problem. Other than Sheera joking during the scene, which did feel out of character for her, roshi and lupa seemed to take the scene more seriously, even if they didn't verbally condemn Barry's actions.

Sheera quite clearly stopped laughing after she realised what the moment actually was. Probably just misinterpreted it as Barry having a cartoonish outburst, stop demonising people who didn't have your preferred reaction.

Sheera really ruining all the serious and fucked up moments in the show. The comedy really got her all confused, laughing and rambling on the darkest moments.
Or maybe abuse aint that serious to her? Both the thing with Sally and forcing Gene to say "I love you" back are forms of abusing a power dynamic. And she thought both were funny I guess.
