@@LuisSierra42 that shit is rough and tough, but no spoilers for anyone who hasn't seen it yet!!! But yeah, I'm also just waiting and biding my time for that episode. They ain't ready for it😂😂😂
I don't know who is denying it: Sally DOES suck! And I believe that's the direction of the show. Barry is so void of a good relationship that she is a "good gf" for him - his benchmark is super low/non-existent. Remember, Barry is a killer! And Sally is doing whatever (and whoever) to excel in her career! They are almost match made in heaven.
Sally sucks and she doesn't change. She's meant to be that self absorbed. I dislike her character's actions but I love seeing her on the screen, lol. In a "how are you like this", she's fascinating
Sally gets more likable. But, they are doing that thing that "You" does, where Barry is awful in ways that we can't relate to, but conventionally polite and likable otherwise, and he's surrounded by people that are far less awful, but the ways they are awful are very familiar to us.
17:49 That's what you get mixed. Sally fucking sucks right now AND is a great character. A great character doesn't have to be likeable nor sympathetic all the time, there are characters written to be annoying and at the same time have so much depth to them.
Sally is toxic as hell but I guess her character is written that way to shook the viewers. Here is an actual toxic woman character that is ok to hate vs all the other fictional characters that are hated just because they are women and trying to survive the main character’s shitty decisions.
I mean people still hate her for very misogynistic reasons, like turning down that gift which was an obvious red flag, or slut shaming her even after she turns down advancing her career for sexual favors. I still think the reaction to Sally has some of the same problems as reactions to characters like Skylar in Breaking Bad.
Shes not saying that she would rather have that as rent money... she was just putting into perspective how EXPENSIVE of a gift that is for the type of relationship they have. Like theyve only known each other for maybe a few weeks or a couple months
Barry is actually supposed to be the best shooter in this show, and you'll see it later on. Especially season 3. That warehouse seen was nothing, and Barry goes solo too haha.
Tell me why I just watched this entire episode with audio description on the whole time. I thought it was just a stylistic choice but my finger must've slipped 😂
I actually like Sally as a character, but she definitely gains her complexity after the end of the first season. I still really like some of her moments in season 1, like when Barry was visibly shaken up by Ryan's dad's speech, and, rather than making it about Barry fucking up their scene, she tried to calm him down and encourage him. Like, you can say it's bare minimum, but coming from someone like Sally, it was rather surprising. She's awful, but like every other character on this show is.
I disagree about the gift. Not that most people wouldn’t accept it, but dropping like 2 grand on someone after hooking up ONCE is mad weird bro. I also think she maybe has the same doubts Taylor has. No way Barry’s job is what he claims it is.
Another thing some folks kinda overlook... Sally is just coming off of a TERRIBLE day where her agent made VERY inappropriate sexual advances on her, got rejected, tried to play it off as a joke (which it was NOT), and then DROPPED her an hour or so later. And then Barry buys her a $1.5k gift. Yes they've slept once, and Barry was there for her emotionally in one moment. But they've known each other for a WEEK, at best. Now, ofc Barry does NOT know any of this nor is this HIS fault. Ofc not. But WE see Barry's pure, albeit naïve, intentions with the laptop gift... we should also try and understand how it might look from Sally's POV, especially after the day she's had.
Don’t read this if you haven’t finished the season. I didn’t catch this last time I watched the show but Barry literally calls his friend a big rat at the pier. I find that interesting because in the end he becomes an amateur rat.
I know Sally sucks, but Sarah Goldberg's performance is just *chef kiss*. To me, she was above everyone else in this show or at least up there with Bill Hader, incredible acting. She was definitely snubbed! I can't take the Emmys seriously.
As of right now yeah, she’s turrible (Charles Barkley voice) but as you get to know her backstory it’s amazing how Sarah Goldberg portrays her. She had thought she was about to get the opportunity of a lifetime and then confronted with the reality that if she doesn’t do the nasty with some old creep then she doesn’t get the job. She refused and didn’t get the job. (Imagine what would have happened if she told Barry) 👀 Barry didn’t know about that and just bought her a laptop as a kind gesture. Some peoples love language is gifts. Absolutely. She is still trying to process what happened. She’s basically like “Why would you buy me a laptop? I’ve already had sex with you. What else do you want from me?” She doesn’t know how to accept true love because of what she had just gone through. So it’s better to “hurt them before they hurt me.” At least that’s how I interpreted it.
You guys really doubled down on the laptop thing 😭 Sally generally treats people awfully, but the laptop instance is valid. Whether Sally is overall a bad person, well better to watch more and see. If someone IRL did what Barry did, the person receiving the Uber expensive gift would rightly be like “wth” Yes, they’ve been hanging out and talking. They’re not dating, and even if they were early dating, a 3 months of rent gift wouldn’t even fit in an early defined relationship. From a normal person’s perspective, it sets up a power dynamic based on the difference finances of the people involved. Funny fact, the whole scenario was written based on a real interaction bill Hader had where he gave a very expensive gift and the female writers of the show were like “no way” 😂
I get how it was weird, but people try and put in a way to where Barry INTENTIONALLY tried making it weird when in reality he is just very socially awkward/unaware.
It’s the disproportionate amount of discussion over sally that gets me. Yes, she is unlikeable and does shitty things. But, for example, so is Gene. The difference is Gene can be self centered and do shitty things, but everyone goes “oh what a silly guy”
Yeah I can’t believe there are people who actually like sally. Especially if they’ve watched further in the show. She is hands down the worst character by far and has literally 0 redeeming qualities. Straight up a narcissistic sociopath and that’s saying something when her competition is literally a murdering psychopath. Sally is awful and probably the worst part of the show consistently from start to finish which is crazy cause all the other characters are awful too, she just takes the cake from them all. Great acting though. She literally does a complete character change every season and it’s good.
Enjoying these reactions a LOT, but get the feeling that y'all are gonna CONTINUE to be on some bs re: Sally lol She's certainly not perfect and has more than her fair share of issues. But I feel like some folks just don't offer her the same empathy or understanding that they might to some other characters. I've certainly seen enough reaction videos and reddit posts doing this lol. Btw, not saying that y'all are not supposed to/allowed to criticize her or that you HAVE to like her or something, mind you.
The show lowkey does this on purpose, like you have literal murderers and criminals that are written to be more likable just cuz they're funny or they're the protagonist. Meanwhile yes Sally can be very frustrating but it's just funny how audeinces tend to hate her more than the actual criminals lol.
agree, I think just because someone is unlikable and you find them annoying you cannot discredit what is happening to them what are they going through and how they are feeling. People grow on you even with their mistakes. There is this saying there isn't anyone you couldn't learn to love once you've heard their story
The way Sally’s situation informs on her asshole behaviour is considered so much less than how Barry’s situation informs on him **murdering people without remorse**
I finished the series a while ago, and I love watching them watch it, and I have to kind of agree on Sally. No spoilers but Barry is astronomically worse, but before Sally gets her big character development moments, she is the pinnacle of selfishness. But I can't bring myself to hate her. I'm excited to see if opinions change on her here.
Sally is like Skyler levels of unlikable. When I first saw Sally my mind instantly went to Skylar. Then when Sally was being sally it just cemented my "yup skyler" in my mind. Then another instance happened and I was like "woah she's worse than skyler"
never understood what skyler did that made ppl hate her so much. sally, on the other hand, is selfish to the extreme and has a complete lack of self-awareness
@@TheRulersBack18well Skyler just constantly gets in Walt's way ,and if you're routing for Walt someone constantly getting in his way is gonna be annoying somewhat
@@johnsaker1 i can get that, but ppl put her on the level of like sansa and sally, and that's just nuts to me lol. i rooted for walt the whole way and i was way more annoyed by marie than skyler
@@TheRulersBack18 Yeah marie, a criminal by all accounts instantly going from 0-100 was a bit weird. Like you wouldn't instantly want to destroy your family member over that. Like it was more of a vindictive revenge thing than it was out of moral reasons.
