Dan, they call the fog the "London Particular." It has teeth! Not too surprised there is so much difficulty at Heathrow. That fog will blow in with absolutely no warning. What about Gatwick? I'm sure they have a Boots there, though not too sure about M&S. I LOVE Boots! It's always such a terrific adventure! I really wish they had them here in the US. Hugs to you and Oskar!
I live in London and almost only use LHR, I don't find it that bad at all. When connecting at any airport there's a chance they'll lose your bag and ATC have rules to follow regarding when they can allow planes to take off. I find security to be almost always under 5 minutes and flight never delayed more than 15 min.
I am a Brit living in another country that requires international, long haul travel to the UK. BA was bad when my parents flew in the eighties. Nothing has changed, only it has become worse. BA will always strive to the lowest threshold, and is very proud to occupy the position.
Heathrow is one of the worst major airports in the world. Systems regularly fail, baggage regularly goes missing or damaged, airport tax is expensive, getting to the airport is expensive, staff are regularly on strike.. list goes on.
Not sure Heathrow has any monopoly on travel misery. Took me 14 hours to get from Dallas-Ft Worth to LAX yesterday, due to American Airlines operational issues, in perfect weather. Our 787-9 got taken out of service before departure, and couldn’t be replaced after hours of trying. American finally downgraded the flight to a 787-8 they found laying around, so a bunch of us got bumped. This at their main US hub. Capacity ridiculously stretched everywhere.
Had the worst experiences connecting internationally at LHR over the past three years. It took the cake when the wheelchair service for my 93 year old father was not provided, while we were waiting for them to come, only to be told after half an hour that they wouldn't. By then we had lost valuable time, and had to rush to the international connection security checks where the line was so long, we nearly missed our flight, and only made it because it was delayed. In that rush my father fell on the escalator and was helped by other passengers, not staff. He was completely exhausted and that before another 8 hour flight in BA's cramped economy. Luggage got lost of course. At this point I am avoiding LHR at all cost, paying a premium to not connect there, and telling everyone to do the same. Way, way too stressful.
I can sadly relate to the lost bags😢. I got all the way to Australia and back getting 7 flights in total, and Heathrow lost one of my checked bags on the connection in Heathrow for the final flight LHR-DUB because it didn’t make it to the plane on time.
I flew to Heathrow last year let me tell you he has a point. We criticize CDG every time, but LHR is the worst imo. I had to take a Eurostar at 6pm in St Pancras and the way from the airport to central London was horrible: first after my plane landed, we had to wait to park for no apparent reason and wait about 30 minutes in the plane. Then, when we passed customs the baggage claim was not displayed on the screen and waiting for another 30 minutes. We had to go downstairs to see our carroussel already delivering our luggage. Added to that, the disrupted rail traffic between Heathrow and London almost made me miss my train. So Heathrow has a problem of organizing and I lost time with them
Good day Dan! Although you probably have thought of this before, I’d suggest to fly via Gatwick instead. In that way, you avoid the biggest hubs. There aren’t that many international connections, but I wonder if you could try Norse Atlantic Airways.
This summer, I went from Madrid to Glasgow through Heathrow. My first flight was delayed 2 hours, so I barely missed the connection flight to Glasgow (I still have 30 minutes, but the security didn't let go through). So I was rebooked for a flight on the following day afternoon. Of course, BA didn't have left hotel rooms, so I had to pay for one, and hopefully, they will reimburse (still waiting). Just giving us those vouchers (10 pounds per person) for dinner. On the next day, the flight was first delayed 2 hours, then canceled due to a technical problem. This time, they had hotel rooms in... Gatwick, thankfully, my flight was rebooked to a flight from Gatwick. I also had vouchers to the bus going from Heathrow to Gatwick... along with dozens of people... I decided to skip this mess and took an Uber with my family. The next day, we flew from Gatwick to Glasgow, and except for the tremendous mess with the automatic drop-off machines, it went ok. We arrived at Glasgow around 40 hours later than scheduled...
Heathrow is huge and so are the logistics getting from one flight to another (and especially checked baggage). I always allow AT LEAST THREE HOURS between connecting flights...and misplaced luggage is very common. I do my best to avoid Heathrow as it's not worthwhile to connect there. But, I'm sure, you'd agree that a direct, non-stop flight is best (unless unavailable). And since you fly so often, no one would know better than you!!!!
I just flew out of LHR. Terminal 5 is terrible. The BA Concorde room is a joke, especially compared to the Virgin club house. BA First was severely lacking. At least it was a redemption booking.
I just recently connected thru LHR and it was TORTURE. I was flying BA from ZRH-LHR-LAX. We just got off the plane with no purchases available anywhere and we had to go thru security just after the flight. That line took an hour and I didn’t get to enjoy the BA lounge before the business class flight like I see in your vids
Went through Heathrow once. Airline managed to only load a few dozen bags on the plane. I distinctly remember standing in the baggage claim when the lady on the overhead announcement told us that the rest of the bags didn’t get loaded on the flight and everyone from our flight just looking at each other with a mutual sigh. Pretty much everyone on that flight had to file for lost baggage.
Mostly not really Heathrow specific problems tbf. 2.5h is OK for a connection but not generous. Heathrow’s main shortfall is the lack of buses between terminals. Other than that, I invite you to try confusing and depressing Frankfurt, and if that doesn’t have you running tearfully back into Heathrow’s arms, try Charles De Gaulle, where to even begin with its dysfunction, mon dieu, the place where dreams bags and connections go to die. All is forgiven Heathrow, how could I ever have doubted you!!!!!
I was going from LA to Mumbai and I had a stop in Heathrow. The connection was supposed to be around 4 hours but thanks to Virgin Atlantic delaying the LA to London flight for god knows what, we only had around 30 minutes to make it through security and onto our flight as it was minutes away from boarding. Heathrow’s security was being very aggressive and was delaying the security line even more. We did end up getting on the flight with seconds to spare but the bags didn’t because of how close the connection was. We waited 3 days in Mumbai before they got us our bags. Another time they threw out all the baby food we had (this was a while ago) even though we had it all properly packed and it wasn’t over the limit so that obviously that caused a problem. London Heathrow is so bad that when I was flying from London to LA, Heathrow would have been a 35 minute drive from my hotel but I still decided to drive the 1.25 hour drive to London Gatwick to avoid the terrible airport.
In 2017, BA ended up paying me for travelling with them all the while I was flying myself to silver status - compensation for delayed flights, cancelled flights, missed connections amounted to so much that I got back more in compensation than I paid for my tickets.
Bro my brother has faced this thing in Heathrow airport from LHR-HK 1. He booked a business class ticket in British airways and in mid air due to operational issues in the plane, he had again came back to Heathrow airport. 2. British airways couldn’t book him business class, instead he got an economy class ticket. But that became even worse, some person in the plane was not feeling well, so the plane stopped at Bucharest. Then after a 10 hour delay, the plane started and he felt super tried after plane landed and after few days he decided to just go back to his home in NYC
It’s because Heathrow, and its management culture, doesn’t have robust systems and processes which their staff are familiar with when anything out of the ordinary hits. Everyone is like a dear in headlights and too afraid to step up and tackle issues and instead pass the buck to the next person. This “can’t do” attitude is why my local airport sucks so much.
Hi Sir your video is amazing especially for the video about forgotten airline in southeast asia but have you ever try Garuda Indonesia nobody talk about it i think you Should try Garuda Indonesia because its also 5 star
I went to Scotland a few weeks ago and I was flying from Chicago to Glasgow through Heathrow and British airways cancelled my flight to Heathrow the day before flying and I was rebooked to an American airlines flight that left 8 hours before my British airways flight was supposed to leave so my 2 hour connection was turned into an almost 11 hour connection and then on the way back British airways left my dad's bag in London
We just went through there twice, once for a connection going to Greece and the other on the way home for a connection to DFW. Literally the worst airport, will go out of our way to not connect there ever again.
You had some horrid luck, I've never had a problem in Heathrow in 15 years of flying. But then again I never fly BA, Star Alliance T2 and Etihad T4 for me.
not the only one because 4 days ago my London Heathrow flight with British airways to Prague got delayed 1 hour due to bad weather and while we HAD boarded.
I just had a flight cancelled due to slightly worse weather from Aberdeen, Scotland to Heathrow, so was stuck there for another day. But do like Heathrow, its a love/hate thing lol
So the mistake you made was having checked bags. You should fly with nothing (everyone should). If people did that, then missed connections would be next to none, and you can buy all of that crap at your destination anyway. The only people who should bring any type of bag are mothers with infants and 1 diaper bag only. So instead of arriving late and waiting for sonofabitches to get their carry-on, everyone can just GTFO the plane and make their connections. WRITE THAT DOWN.

The way to lift the curse is to sit in economy on a Ryanair flight.

Love this. Bloody heathrow but Pret makes it all better🎉
Heathrow is the only airport that I've not had complications with! It's much better than Paris CDG which is the worst airport by far

UK airports especially Heathrow are the worst in the world for delays, cancellations and overcrowding. From a Brit, don’t come here. Save your sanity.
Yeah. The smaller airports are good though, like Newcastle.
My favorite airline is wow I wish I had 18 million dollars to buy it😢
