Thank you for putting this together! I played SWG: Legends for a couple of years, but our community had gone to SWTOR, at it's launch. Even this many years later and well-past any interest I had in SWTOR, SWG is still alluring and becoming more and more attractive as an option. It also helps that it's free and there's no P2W in the emulators. If I go back to it now, it'll definitely be Legends.
I am going to say Legends because it keeps the game moving forward, rather than trying to fix the earlier parts of the game that were still half-baked. The devs really seem to care about the quality of the content and the regular hotfixes are always on point. For those who want a pure Pre NGE grindfest, you're better off playing Empire in Flames or just the base SWGEMU client.

R3 has come along a long way they just need to release mustafar and jedi. Hopefully the player base returns with that because thats all its lacking. Best combat system in SWG by far. hopefully these devs can pull it together.
@@bobtwo3948 it’s low because they’ve taken almost 2 years now to release any new content. Devs suck and destroyed their own server which sucks because it was great when it first came out.
tried it out but i hate the pre-nge combat and skill progression. for the NGE's faults it did add actual content and made it more accessible to new players.
I want to try SWG as I never did when it was active, but it's from that pre-WoW MMO control and UI design that plagues all the old MMOs. To me, it feels like you have to fight against the controls and UI to be able to do the things that you want to do rather than being intuitive. EverQuest and DAOC are two others that have a similar feeling for me. It's just really hard for me to get into MMOs that have that style of UI and control scheme.
@@Puerkl8r SWG did. The NGE even had the skill points trees that copied the, well I only played WoW myself for like a week, but I made an undead priest, and had to invest in Shadow or...something else. THAT and other things were basically ripped from WoW, and others
@@scottskinner577 Interesting. I think they copied the wrong things than. They should have copied the controls and smooth gameplay rather than the skills and whatever else they copied.
@@Puerkl8r I wanna say they did, because they did in fact change all that. But I can't call that WoW and be certain because I can't remember the WoW controls. But I wouldn't doubt it. Even the professions. Rogue - Spy. Priest - Medic. Jedi - Paladin or whatever. Officer - Mage or whatever. Etc.
I'm still digging R3 and have played since launch. I'm probably one of the few though, and I've definitely noticed a drop in the player base (specifically crafters due to some of the bugs and lack of communication on changes early on). I'm hopeful; however, that most will return once Mustafar and Jedi are released in the near future. R3 is the basket in which all my eggs have been placed. Don't let me down!
Honestly that update will only keep people for so long and it's not huge enough to pull players back from other games they went to like new world or FFxiv ect
They need to fix a few combat classes, just slow the speed of the game down, unfuck the fuckery that is skill attachment creation, rethink the afk law, add the new content they talked about and finally add in jedi. This will be R4.
I played R3 from launch too. I stopped playing and I don't think I'd ever come back. The state of the server at launch really put me off trusting that that server would ever see Musty or Jedi being added, to be honest. And I don't think those additions would bring people back to the server.
@@CakeorDeath1989 launch wasn't very indicative of R3's current state. For one you had people intentionally trying to DDoS it to reduce server performance. There has been very heavy testing being done in regards to Jedi and Musty which I have actually been a part of, and it's looking really good. I think people will at least give it a shot once it's released.
Problem with R3 is that there a handful of broken classes, and they don't make it common knowledge before you start grinding them, hitting Ranger or even BE and finding out of btw like 6 of your skills (pretty much all of them) dont work in Ranger, or in BE uh sorry but your pets stats are actually broken ... was totally disappointment, let down, and waste of time, BE's tissues didn't work cause tailor didn't have a slot or prompt to attach them.... was just really disappointing I'm sorry, and to top it off The lead dev was just very bad socially... other than that nice community and jtl combat in space was decent without the few glitches I experienced like infinite waypoints 😂
The Emu team has been working tirelessly on getting a working JTL version up and running . I have heard that it is in play testing and server stress testing. This will bring a resurgence to the Pre CU emu servers. They say that it will be released soon. Soon being a relative term in EMU Dev speak since they have been saying soon for about 20 months.
I'm playing on SWG -Lengends atm and am having a good time. I like the added content such as Bespin. The only thing that would make it better is if it was CU not NGE, but this is not a deal breaker for me. The nostalgia of Pre-CU doesn't draw me to EMU. I played the gave on live from 2003 until the end at 2011. Each revision of the game had its issue.
In your new video please talk about SWG Infinity. I got into it as a brand new player and its so fun and intuitive to play. Perfect balance of catering to new players but also giving the pre-cu experience so you get what made it unique and not just a typical MMO.
Infinity is great but in the last couple months its becoming SR v2.0 rebels whined and complained so much and got unbalanced patches in their favor it drove alot of the imperial players away.
After trying Emu, R3 and Legends, if anyone were to ask me, my recommendation would be Legends. Legends has an endgame, meaning there's something to work towards. There's nothing like that on the other servers, unless you count hunting krayts and spending your life in the DWB as endgame.. New content has been added to Legends, which is an absolute feat on such ancient architecture. That makes me put my faith in the Legends devs. Emu struggling to implement JTL, and R3 being the absolute mess it was during launch (the server went live FAR too soon) gives me the sense the teams behind those servers aren't as clued up as they claim to be. I trust that Legends will persist and continue to grow and improve, which is something I can't say for the other servers. I also think people are too quick to dismiss the NGE. I've had more fun with the NGE than Pre-CU or CU. Alright, Jedi running around is lore breaking, but I play Smuggler, and Smug in NGE is far far far more fun to play as than Smug in CU or Pre-CU.
Nice post. I think R3 is on the right track but I agree that Legends is the cream of the crop when it comes to development. They handle things professionally.
@@AdventureGameHotspot I still don't think I'd ever go back to R3. My guild spent weeks at launch pouring hours into the server. Imperium on Naboo and Rising Suns on Tattooine were both ours, but I'm sure it's just Imperium that's around these days. Most of us got bored and frustrated with things like the chat/mail server being down for months, every quest we tried being bugged, and there being a lack of content. Surely just growing pains for a brand new server, but I think it was enough for most of us to ask the question "are things like Mustafar, Jedi, and Pre-CU versions of Heroics, feasibly, realistically going to be something they can pull off?" I think most of us felt the answer was no, which is why we left pretty sharpish. A massive shame after we put so much work in. I also heard some rumours about some of their future plans that I didn't like the sound of. It could have just been hearsay, but I did hear rumblings of them wanting to implement a lootbox type system for things like the Veteran Rewards. I remember the R3 staff very obsessively mentioning they wanted credit sinks in the game (a reason why ITVs are disabled in R3). You would spend your credits on the loot boxes to get Veteran Rewards. That sort of system is a bad idea, obviously, and I'd rather have a bit of an inflated in-game economy over a system that creates a separation of the haves and have-nots. Imagine saving up your credits to hopefully get a Gackle Bat, and instead getting something like a Darth Maul Statue. Lol. And then the upper echelon of players who have millions of credits can just buy hundreds of boxes, and then immediately get everything they want. It's not very good game design, and even a slight rumour of something like that coming into the game was enough for me to GTFO.
@@OldskoolHiFi honestly, the NGE isn't nearly as bad as people say it is. In fact I don't think it's bad at all. As someone who played from Empire Divided to when the live server shut down, and then has tried every type of emulator server, so has plenty of experience with SWG in all its forms, the NGE is a lot of fun.
My issue with legends is the afk bots. There. Are. Hundreds. Which makes me question whos actually online? Market is flooded with over priced items, same issues as bask had.
R3 is the easiest to get since you dont have to own the game previously and its totally free. However, getting started from scratch seems to be a bit of a struggle there. You dont make as much money as you did in the SOE game. And I guess thats fine, you just have to painfully grind more... I think it needs alot of polish. I just started playing it a couple days ago, and even though Im frustrated often, Im gonna try and stick it out for awhile to see if it gets better.
@@AdventureGameHotspot Just to update you, after playing for a few days I realized the modified combat system was utterly stupid and I quit playing R3. Perhaps I will look at one of the other remakes.
Playing on a New Server called a New Hope its pre cu I can only recommend the server. After finalizing, it's the most populated at the moment, the good thing is no village for jedi must do 5 random prof
Honestly, I've played both pre-cu and NGE, and NGE gets a lot of (admittedly well deserved) hate. But I have to disagree with the statement saying that its combat completely sucks, to be spamming mind hit over and over isn't exactly the pinnacle of engaging combat. Neither is NGE, but pre-cu combat has always been very clunky. Each to their own however, we all love this game and whatever keeps it going is a thumbs up from me.
I've just been missing the JTL content. I haven't found any server that actually has that locked down, I really enjoyed the space portion of SWG and being a Shipwright was my favorite crafting profession.
I agree with the maker of this video. The best SWG release was the CU. PreCU had so many limitation, was so grindy where as the CU balanced out combat, implemented so many good things and they they ruined it with the NGE which makes character builds boring and limited.
CU is where I could finally PVP as a jedi so I have to agree I learned to love it. Thought it was a good middle ground of the first, and the eventual system. And I'll never forget the BH/CH that came after me in a spin grind group. Took forever to kill him too. Good times
NGE gave classes actual identities however, and gave the game actual content outside of spamming terminal missions over and over or farming DWB/krayt dragons for eternity or raging trying to unlock jedi. builds can be very unique in NGE as well with stat gear choice. loved my doom medic beast master and dark jedi tank in NGE
Yeah I played the basilisk server for a long time when it was out and the NGE and I can understand why some people don't like the reduction in classes but at the same time spamming the heck out of the same attacks over and over in precu combat ages like Limburger cheese in the Sahara desert for me
Honestly i think at this point after testing on resto 3 i think what i really want is just nge with jedi removed and given a complex as fuck unlock mechanism
Legends is great, but lately I find myself enjoying playing on Finalizer more, sometimes riding out into the dunes on Tatooine to do some missions is enough for me
@@wk-wien Okay that's right. That's a problem! I also liked the 30+ professions much better than just the 9 in NGE. Still, I switched to legends. Because it has the liveliest community and the game is brought forward. Also in the future! With SWG Emu and Restoration I'm not sure!
@@poweredbyplants82 yeah, meanwhile I am back on legends too, I missed space combat - a combination of the old classes and jump-to-lightspeed would be great for me

No doubt, I prefer NGE to pre-NGE. So my hot choice is Legends :3 but like you said it excels in so much. NGE is just icing on the cake. Only wish they put in atmospheric flying.
I won't mind roleplaying as a bounty hunter who finds out is force sensitive and joins the rebellion Edit: I wish it was my dream star wars game. I would like a game that's star wars galaxies meets Skyrim. Its your own story, character creation and I want to be able to have a home and start my own family. I really want to feel immersed. A true star wars roleplay experience.

@@AdventureGameHotspot haven't joined one yet am looking for some folks that I was with when it shut down on the old Start Strider server was a rebel guild but forgot the name
I would recommend Legends too. And yeah, the NGE hate is like a bandwagon everyone likes to jump on. No joke, I've met people who never played on live, or Legends, shit talk NGE. I feel like the reaction towards the NGE was a kneejerk one, brought about by such a big change during the live server days. If some of the "purists" wouldn't have spat their dummies out and rage quit the game, many of them probably would have got used to the NGE, many more people would have grown to love it, and this NGE bashing probably wouldn't persist as much today. In my opinion, SWG is a much better game with the NGE combat system.
@@CakeorDeath1989 the hate comes from , like you said, how they went about the change. Also, it was terrible at first. They corrected lots of the mistakes before the servers closed.
Restoration 3, for ease of install and no need for game discs. Plus it's "mostly" the original game before they started messing up. Old style profession system.

Time to Remake the Best MMO and STAR WARS MMO that has ever existed.. like out of all the MMOs i ever played, this was the best...because from lvl 1, there is near infinate things to do, and after 90 it just Gets more insane.
@@ryancooke5764 depends on what era of SWG u wana play. swg legends (NGE) is the most advanced emulator of the bunch. they added cloud city, new themeparks and new end game dungeons to do from scratch. tried r3 and others but i dont like the old school pre-cu classes.
I really hope R3 can turn things around, the combat upgrade is where i spent most of my time in swg and while legends has a lot of cool and new content, the combat and it's limiting builds has prevented me from enjoying it. Pre-cu while neat on it's own is just a snapshot of a game that was loved for it's quirks but lacks balance, content, and many quality of life changes that were later added to the game.
The biggest issue with Legends is having to actually own the game with no downloadable client for it. If they included a free to download client I’d be there!

I urge everyone to give SWG Legends a shot. It is the most consistent server out there when it comes to regular updates and population. You will find tons of additional 3rd party content and with the Quest Maker you too can make your own content. The controls single handedly turn most people away. With a little knowledge, time, and patience the controls can be setup to resemble the pre-NGE experience pretty darn closely, with a few caveats. Some things that is not possible in the NGE - Pop up radial when long left clicking on an object - Left click cannot be setup to select targets (set intended target), and use default action at the same time. These are the two main things I've not been able to replicate from pre-NGE SWG, however there are some workarounds. I recommend using the following control settings to emulate a pre-NGE experience: Left Mouse - Set intended target Right Mouse - Select target and summon radial wheel Middle Mouse - Default Action F Key - Toggle auto attack Set mouse deadzone to 200 Uncheck camera offset Use the pre-NGE UI mod When you first get in the game press the Y key to turn on auto target. You'll know you're in auto target mode as your cursor will turn blue. This coupled with the key binds from above (namely the auto attack keybind) will allow you to click to select between targets with auto attack. You'll also know auto attack is on because the attack meter appears right above your hotkey bar which you will see rapidly filling up. Alternatively you can still tab target to select your target -- now press the F key and you will begin to auto attack! Weave in your abilities, and run around to your hearts desire without having to hold down left mouse to attack and without having to keep your cursor on the target. Now instead of functioning like an action game, it will function like an MMORPG again. The mouse dead zone setting will allow you to move your mouse around in a small area in the center of the screen before the camera starts to turn and really brings back that pre-CU feel. Personally I like to set it closer to 300 to give myself more room to work with before the camera moves. Once I've done this I really started to adapt to SWG Legends.
@Just Another Commenter I respect your opinion but pre CU was fundamentally broken from a gameplay perspective. I too enjoyed running around single handed it destroying Axkva Min with my Power Hammer slinging defense stacked Swordsman, but this style gameplay really made pre CU SWG a single person adventure. The saving grace was crafting and buffing with Entertainers and Doctors-because if the game had to rely on exploration and combat it would might as well been a single player game. Socializing in cities was nice due to the player driven economy, but beyond the city limits it was a totally different style game. Sure, I grouped with my guildies sometimes just to socialize with them, but it wasn’t because I had to. I was perfectly capable of even killing Krayts and clearing much of DWB solo and that is a problem in an MMORPG.
I hate it when people just change the date in title for old videos😢. 2022 video listed as 2023. Was hoping for an updated vid so many changes on the different servers.
@@AdventureGameHotspot Look forward to it, I was just about to make the same comment they made about the video title. Setting notifications and subbing so I don't miss the new one.
I started Restoration3 and really liking it, and just heard about Legends. However, this doesn't really cover anywhere near enough to make an informed decision. For one, how would it even be possible to try Legends? Its not very feasible to find the original SWG install materials these days. Also, focal to any SWG is how are Jedi implemented? It seems the original approach where its possible but highly rare to unlock is the only approach that seems appropriate. That aspect wasn't even covered.
The install disks are rather pricy. While it is a prerequisite of Legends, I’d wager that only 20% of the population follow it. In regards to Jedi, Legends has it as a starter profession. It’s a completely different type of profession system.
I don't get why anyone is giving SWGEMU time anymore... The devs for years promise things that keep getting delayed or more accurately just not talked about meanwhile they're so stuck up on making their base game because they don't use any "illegal" code. I'm an original player and believe SWG is the best MMO out there despite all its changes! Legends and R3 are the only servers doing the original game justice. As much as SWGEMU wants to hold the crown, I don't see them holding it through the next few years.
Am I the only one that has problem running this game on a recent pc amd 2600 with rtx 2060. It get so much frame drop on Legends with graphics maxxed out.
What about "Infinity", "Sunrunner II", and "Bloodfin Phoenix"'? 3 others (not mentioned in the video) I've found, the first 2 being pre-CU, Bloodfin I don't know.
Probably wont be going back to R3 unfortunately. The wife and I are not giving some rando private server our phone number just to play together. We will move. The devs need to stop sniffing their own farts. Empire in flames looks like the best and most unique server. The skyhopper is insane.
SWG Legends feels like logging back in right where the game left off. Yea its NGE, but that comes with many, many upgrades in content. Pre NGE servers are super fun to build out a class, but then you just have nothing to do with it.
I've played Legends off and on for a year or so, but planted my feet in R3. Legends is GREAT, but I just can't stand NGE professions. Don't let that scare you though. Legends is definitely kickin' a** out there and even though I'm on R3, I'd say they're doing the best right now. All kinds of custom content, Jedi theme park, and so much more!

SWG Legends CSRs can actually be very toxic and political. They don't apply the rules to all and allow political people of a certain side to get away with being toxic in game. I don't play video games to think about politics. They kicked me out of the discord for even asking that they ban all political names.
"900 people on" hahaha, that's kinda deceiving considering people run multi accounts and can play two characters at once on each one. I wish they found a real fix for this exploit.
I kind of agree with this, there are 'ways' around the one account. 2 PC's with 2 different internet connections since VPN banned. Could get expensive $ wise, but its your hobby right? I'm sure they have watchers to see the transfer of credits and resources from an account with a sampler and 20 harvesters dropped on the same resources that your main account is currently gathering.
@@opinionatedrobot2750 To think there arent hundreds of people with more than one account is pretty gullible but either way the ultimate outcome of their emulator will be the same as their last server. just give it a year.

To be fair to the people that ran Basilisk and now Finalizer, they have warned everyone that those servers are temporary until they release Sunbreaker which will be the final and permanent server.
It is not easy to implement Jump to Light speed into a pre NGE CU server. The ground work is not there for them to build off of. JTLS was built for post NGE CU.

@@scottskinner577 huh? What copied wow?
Yeah. I’ve already written the script. Essentially, it’s a lot of fun but hard to play unless it gets an influx of players 😀
@@AdventureGameHotspot I look forward to watching it
Infinity is great but in the last couple months its becoming SR v2.0 rebels whined and complained so much and got unbalanced patches in their favor it drove alot of the imperial players away.
But NGE.... yuck
@@OldskoolHiFi out of curiosity, what is it about the NGE you dislike?
My issue with legends is the afk bots. There. Are. Hundreds. Which makes me question whos actually online? Market is flooded with over priced items, same issues as bask had.
Play Infinity. It's better and you have more variety
Nice. I’m glad to hear that people are playing r3
@@AdventureGameHotspot Um, yeah they are, but it seems alot of people have also quit. I find alot of abandoned vendor houses...
@@AdventureGameHotspot Just to update you, after playing for a few days I realized the modified combat system was utterly stupid and I quit playing R3. Perhaps I will look at one of the other remakes.

New video coming soon
Restoration?
ya pretty sure resto has space combat and all that, check their wiki out
Bloodfin if you don't want to be a drag queen lol
I agree with the maker of this video. The best SWG release was the CU. PreCU had so many limitation, was so grindy where as the CU balanced out combat, implemented so many good things and they they ruined it with the NGE which makes character builds boring and limited.
Thanks D R.
Yeah cause those are your only choices with those classes 1 of two at best and forget bringing utility stuff
Yeah I played the basilisk server for a long time when it was out and the NGE and I can understand why some people don't like the reduction in classes but at the same time spamming the heck out of the same attacks over and over in precu combat ages like Limburger cheese in the Sahara desert for me
Good post.
Honestly i think at this point after testing on resto 3 i think what i really want is just nge with jedi removed and given a complex as fuck unlock mechanism
sentinels republic is really popular loads of new planets, events, raids etc.
Omg I was in that dance scene! Pink shirt and afro, good times!
That 2 FPS during pvp sure brings back a lot of memories lol

Old style profession system.

everyone hates NGE but i thought it was a unique FPS style combat system that was totally unique to the genre
It sounds like things are looking up for them.
The biggest issue with Legends is having to actually own the game with no downloadable client for it. If they included a free to download client I’d be there!
I wonder what the ratio of people that actually own it versus those who downloaded it illegally is.

Some things that is not possible in the NGE
- Pop up radial when long left clicking on an object
- Left click cannot be setup to select targets (set intended target), and use default action at the same time.
These are the two main things I've not been able to replicate from pre-NGE SWG, however there are some workarounds.
I recommend using the following control settings to emulate a pre-NGE experience:
Left Mouse - Set intended target
Right Mouse - Select target and summon radial wheel
Middle Mouse - Default Action
F Key - Toggle auto attack
Set mouse deadzone to 200
Uncheck camera offset
Use the pre-NGE UI mod
When you first get in the game press the Y key to turn on auto target.
I’m actually working on one right now 😀
@@AdventureGameHotspot Look forward to it, I was just about to make the same comment they made about the video title.
I always played as Droid mechanic and free pilot....... i just want JTL back
I don't get why anyone is giving SWGEMU time anymore...
I agree Zach. How long can they devote cash and time to something without a return on investment anyways? It’s a thankless job
It's odd because finalizer is practically dead

Yo WillyMac i didn't know you were an SWG fan.
Just discovered Resurgence. Really good stuff on that server. Only about 9 months old at this time.
Probably wont be going back to R3 unfortunately. The wife and I are not giving some rando private server our phone number just to play together. We will move. The devs need to stop sniffing their own farts.

What is it with these devs wanting photo's and personal information for 2 x players to be in an illegal game FFS
I'd love to play this game if I could. But I have absolutely no idea how.
it's easy many. with legends and emu you need swg's install files, but theyre easy to find online. R3 you just DL.
SWG Legends feels like logging back in right where the game left off. Yea its NGE, but that comes with many, many upgrades in content. Pre NGE servers are super fun to build out a class, but then you just have nothing to do with it.
That’s where I’m at too.
Which one would y'all suggest for the current time and don't own the original game?

The game was hot in it's original state ,But not any more until new Devs and a better team come aboard and make stuff happen.
This has also been my experience of the current state of Finalizer.
To be fair to the people that ran Basilisk and now Finalizer, they have warned everyone that those servers are temporary until they release Sunbreaker which will be the final and permanent server.
What about AOTC can u play that still?
Been trying to play Legends for weeks, but the account creation is so cock blocking. Saying I'm using a vpn or some shit. I JUST WANT TO PLAY THE GAME
Have you contacted an admin or discord?
It is not easy to implement Jump to Light speed into a pre NGE CU server. The ground work is not there for them to build off of. JTLS was built for post NGE CU.
What’s your deal with infinity? You post all these other servers but not them. Why??
I haven’t played it 😀
@@AdventureGameHotspot why not give them a shot?
@@ThePerfectStormGaming I plan on it. What’s the population look like?
@@AdventureGameHotspot 200-300 daily. It’s picking back up.
