Sha Na Na put on the best show at Woodstock as the video even in poor quality shows. Henry Gross may be known for the lightweight hit 'Shannon' but this performance has that 'fierce joy' only found in the very best high energy rock-n-roll.
Unlike the other two sha na na clips it shows the audience reaction (positive). There's a nice b/w pic on the web with Henry Gross on his back which looks like it's from this number. It was very democratic of Sha Na Na the way many/all members were given their spotlight number.
Perhaps a lot of todays guitarist like Angus Young copped some of these moves this guitarist made here? whoever this cat is must be awesome to be able to say now, "I was rocking out at Woodstock" !!
Henry Gross, the youngest performer at Woodstock, I believe, 18 at the time. Later a "one hit wonder" with "Shannon" in 1976, after he'd exited ShaNaNa for his own personal reasons. He & I returned to NYC in his VW Beetle on Monday after the festival.
