I think Jake means influence rather than advice. They've all said on record how much of influence Jake was on their work. Taker especially says how much jake influenced his promo and work style. He did less in the ring, he slowed down, because of Jake.

It’s the only dog Jake has in this fight here that he’s picked. That is the greatest 1 liner in wrestling history and it still lives on. Jake is part responsible for it and without it...I just don’t know...but I do think SCSA still happens. So Jake has that dog in the fight but still loses IMO. He’s also responsible for UT’s early development. Old UT is straight out of Jake’s old vault. But it wasn’t Jake who kept the gimmick fresh, stuck with it through tough times and made it believable as late as 1998.

This is a classic example of Jim and Bryan not understanding the question. Jake was around all those guys before 96. In the late 80's/early 90's in his run with the WWF he was around Shawn backstage and Taker. He's responsible for being the guy to turn Taker baby face in 91. The whole Savage/Taker/Jake wedding angle is a classic. As for Steve, Jake was around Steve in WCW in 92. Steve has countless stories of riding with Jake and DDP and learning a ton from Jake. So yes while Jake in 96 had so many issues and was garbage in the ring. He was very pivotal in the early development of all those guys.

I think what Jake probably meant in taking some credit for the success of those three was being associated somehow to their success. But those three had enough talent on their own to get to where they were. I mean I kinda knew Austin was special every since I first saw him in the USWA, especially during his feud with Chris Adams. They had that Come As You Are match and there was something that I saw in Austin that made me realize he had something special. Obviously, Austin 3:16 sent him over the top but if it wasn't going to be that catchphrase it would have been another because Austin always could talk.
Undertaker was going to be a huge star regardless. Seeing him as Mean Mark Callous in WCW just before he jumped ship and watching him do the top rope walk was pretty amazing. He had the size and he stood out. With the Undertaker gimmick, he was captivating upon arrival. You don't get a guy that size with that much athleticism and smoothness every day. And again Jake was associated with the Undertaker in that infamous "Trust me" segments with the Ultimate Warrior. Jake was tremendous in those promos with the Warrior, even though those segments for the most part were stupid because they were the Warrior. Maybe UT got a bit of a leapstart by being part of those but UT had everything and more. That was a no brainer.
Not sure where HBK fits in but minus the behavior problems, Shawn had all the talent in the world just not the size to be a top player. I would credit Sherri a lot more with the initial help in Shawn's singles success than Jake from what I could remember.
I think the one guy that Jake can really take credit for helping is DDP. Dusty too but DDP has been very open about his relationship with Jake and how he translated the DDT into the Diamond Cutter.
