Patty is in her mid 60's now and has all but retired from performing and she still sounds amazing. He called her for this charity concert to help the area of Kentucky they both are from. I was hoping you would do You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive from this concert. Worth the listen. Patty is also a cousin of Loretta Lynn and Loretta's sister Crystal Gayle, another person well worth listening to. The ladies in that family grew up talented.
I came home on a red eye flight from Seattle, and drove back to the house. I was met by my wife, and she said "you have an appointment at the lawyer's office in Bay City." I drove down there and was served with divorce papers. On the way home, I was all kinds of angry and very hurt, and then I heard Patty sing this song on my car radio. My anger left, the hurt faded and I understood what was going on. My ex wife never understood what I had to go through to support her at the lifestyle she wanted, and never understood that I just wanted a simple life. Patty singing this song helped me understand that my ex didn't really know who I was, and that it was not who I wanted to be.... forever grateful.
Wow 💔. This brought tears to my eyes. Going through a divorce now after being married almost 30 years and together almost 40. And not really anyone's fault, although my husband just left, right after my Mom passed. Said he was moving in with his Mom to help take care of her. How can you fault that.... He just never came back. Painful, but we'll get through it and be better off, I hope! Blessings to you!
@frankgublo2323 damn dude. Been there 13 years ago. Then I married the woman I was supposed to be with. 2 kids later and old. Kicking like Mirko Cro Cop
I love that you appreciate different genres of music. I only have a few CDs that would be considered "country" and one of those is by Patty Loveless. She's legit, unapologetically and truly country.
I always felt like the woman in the song was trying to get some appreciation from her man for what she did day to day (like you said, take a gamble looking for a certain result), but never bothered to consider that as hard as she was working to care for hearth and home, he was, too. He worked hard to provide, to make sure she could stay home and be there for the family, then came home every night. But because he left the house to do his part she never considered they both sacrificed, and by leaving she sent him the message that his sacrifice was not enough and not appreciated…and since, obviously somewhere along the way they stopped talking and reaching out to each other, he just gave up. Great reaction!
I feel like the word you’re struggling to find might be “genuine”. Patty is, in my estimation, a very genuine person, and a class act! Love both of them soo much❤
You need to listen to Patty & Chis do "You Will Never Leave Harlan Alive". Not from this concert, but the duet they did from the awards show. They had a standing ovation before the song was even finished by everyone. Including all of the other singers.
you would love to hear Patti singing "You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive" You will want to find the live version she explains her background a little to introduce the song.
This was from the East Kentucky Rising flood relief concert held at Rupp Arena in Lexington, Ky. Chris organized the concert and donated the proceeds. I highly recommend listening to Patty, Chris and Morganne singing Patty’s “You’ll Never Leave Harlan Alive”. Additional East Ky alumni on the the bill were Tyler Childers, Dwight Yoakam, and Ricky Skaggs, the concert is on TH-cam and well worth a listen. I very much enjoy your insight and perspective. BTW Patty and Loretta Lynn (another East Ky gal) are cousins 😉
Patty Loveless basically came out of semi retirement I think for this performance with Chris Stapleton ! Another they did was You’ll Never Leave Harlan Alive!!! Fantastic ! Two wonderful voices!! Also recommend a fun one by Patty Loveless, I Try To Think About Elvis!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️. I think this is such a heartbreaking song because it’s so honest, about two people growing apart. 😢😢😢
This was from a fund raiser for flooding in Eastern KY. Chris helped organize. All 5 performers are from Eastern KY. The others were Dwight Yoakem, Ricky Skaggs, and Tyler Childers. Patty is mostly retired now but Chris called her to come.
Thanks for posting this! They sound so good together! You made a great observation. Was that the reaction the woman expected or wanted to hear?? I think she may have expected it, but it wasn't what she hoped to hear from her man. What a beautiful, sad, well written song.
I was there! So fantastic. And the end of the night it was both of them with Dwight Yoakam, Ricky Skaggs and Tyler Childers all on stage together singing John Prine's Paradise!
I wish I had went and seen him when he performed at a small ballroom near Tulsa. It was right before he blew up real big, when he performed at the CMA's with Justin Timberlake. I was too ill to go. I'd never been to a concert before, and it would've been cool to have witnessed him perform in a small ballroom, instead of a giant concert.
Good insight! We tend to see issues only from our perspective and we feel like the victim! We often don’t try to see the problem from our partner’s perspective! In an issue both sides can’t be completely right, but usually both sides are somewhat wrong!!
@BrittReacts great one! Please Please PLEASE react to their performance at CMA’s of “You’ll Never Leave Harlan Alive”. It was a few weeks after this event & they sang it at this but, he also asked her to sing with him at CMA’s & it’s a better version of it than this event because Chris sings more in it whereas this event he let her basically sing entirely. Please ☺️. Thanks Britt!!
There has been some great female country artists down through the years such as Loretta, Dolly, Patsy Reba , Emy Lou Harris, Mother Marbella Carter & so many more that Im leaving out but in my honest opinion there has never been one that was a better pure country singer with a more angelic voice than Patty Lovelace. Britt If you would like to hear how much power Patty carries in her lungs check out Dr Ralph Stanley & Patty singing "Pretty Polly". That will show you a little bit of her bluegrass roots.
Yes Ma'am, you gotta do her version of you'll never leave Harlen alive, as a Eastern Kentuckian myself, this song will give you a glimpse of what the Appalachian people are made of !! Awesome song !
Chris really does seem like a nice, humble person. His wife having to coax him into being a lead vocalist is proof that he doesn't have a big ego like so many music stars. I think you'd be intrigued by "You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive" and "Pretty Polly" if you enjoy Patti Loveless. Tons of emotion, she hits some crazy notes in one of them...
I came home from work one night after 14 years of marriage to 4 kids asking me " Where's mommy ? " There was a note from her on the kitchen table which said " I' m gone and I'm not coming back ". We had never even had a single conversation about this before .
Chris is very nice! I waited tables at Ted's Montana Grill, when I first moved to Nashville (taking state boards). He was a song writer only at the time and the restaurant was near music row/recording studios/music label area un west Nashville. He was quiet, but very kind.
Another great moment from the concert was the finale with everyone singing the song “Paradise”. This performance includes Ricky Skaggs, Dwight Yoakem, Patty Loveless, and Tyler Childers with Chris and Morgan Stapleton
Chris wrote so many songs for other people. Long before his wife finally got him on stage. He made a lot of friends. Luke Bryan had a tragedy in his life. He called Chris and asked him to write a song about it. At the time we didn't know Chris was singing back up. The song is Drink a beer ☮️
Most folks believe/know that the Lord rested on the 7th day. Now imagine; It's late afternoon on the 6th day, it's been a looong day and the Lord is weary. It's only then that the Lord realizes His musical, songwriting and vocal talent coffers are all still 99% full, so He just decides to heck with it, and pours them all into one Soul before calling it a day. And now we are all blessed to know that that Soul turned out to be Chris Stapleton. Thank you, Lord. 🙏 ✌😎
Britt please react to Stapleton doing Ain’t Living Long Like This from the Waylon tribute concert. That was the moment I went from liking him to a fan. He showed how much he loved making music,to me,in that song he seemed excited to be playing with the all-star band put together for that show
Chris was actually on the ground helping people in Eastern Kentucky clean up after historic flooding, he is a great guy. Patty is a gem also, if you haven't heard listen to How Do I Help You Say Goodbye? by her.
To answer your question about if this was the response she was expecting. Probably not, unfortunately have lived through the story of this song almost to the word. I know she was surprised
Great reaction to a wonderful version of this song. Another "seasoned" singer you may like is Vern Gosdin and his song Chiseled in Stone", if you haven't heard it already.
With Mrs Patty’s song always hits hard with me. When line of Communication stops, the lack of physical touch stops. It’s like you’re going day by day wondering if what you are doing is good enough anymore.
Ok. I’ve now watched three videos of yours. 3 Patty’s, 3 👍👍👍 so now I’ve subscribed. BTW she mentioned sitting down at the fishpond with her husband. That’s Emory Gordy. Before he became one of THE best producers in Nashville he was one of the best musicians in that town. Add to your list Emmylou Harris and The Hot Band, especially videos on The Old Grey Whistle Test - BBC music program in the 70s.
Now, her version of You’ll Never Leave Harlan Alive, and then their version of it.
This x1000
Yup
Yes! Pull up the lyrics when you watch it.
more wisdom on her voice - love that line - great description

@@lincolnlewis6979Distant cousins. I'm not sure they knew each other growing up, at least I never heard that they did

There's just something about those Kentucky voices! Love em!!
Two of Kentucky's greatest treasures
Patty is amazing
I love this song and I really love it more w/Stapleton & Loveless. Have always loved Patty. She’s still got “it”.
Patty Loveless is the absolute soul of Country Music.
You are so beautiful.
I love that you appreciate different genres of music. I only have a few CDs that would be considered "country" and one of those is by Patty Loveless. She's legit, unapologetically and truly country.
I have always described her voice as rock-solid and beautiful. It is and always has been one of my favorite voices.
Love the way you describe how their voices touch you, beautiful!!
You have come to love that Eastern Kentucky Holler sound

That happens a lot.
@@miconis123 it does. Sadly.
They are both just genuine country folks.
A whole lot of respect for each other on that stage!
Thank you for your sweet soul. I appreciate you for your open mind to all genres. Angels on earth.

My goodness this is incredible. Two wonderful voices making brilliant music. Chills!!!!!
Patti Loveless is a catalog of her own ❤ Bluegrass as arts finest ❣️🔥
There is a video of PINK describing her relationship with Chris Stapleton that tells a lot of Chris that I think is pretty cool
Next up her take on You’ll Never Leave Harlan Alive especially the live tv performance from the 90s
