    It's not enough to give a sign. Close down the route until the train has successfully passed. Here in the US, once a train is approaching, there's a gate/ barrier that automatically shuts 5 minutes before it gets close and there's a mark for where vehicles needs to stop which is really far from that track and the barrier doesn't open until train is out of sight. No vehicle can pass even if you want to. This is so sad and totally avoidable . May God console the family of the victims.

    Ideally, any road intersecting rail corridors should be blocked. Lagos state govt should know this now. As soon as the Ikeja bridge is ready, heavy and massive barricade should be placed on ALL rail intersection in that axis. Vehicles should move round to connect to either side. I know some stubborn people would still prefer to take the short cut that could cut short their lives.

    • @angelk1879
      @angelk1879 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, that won't happen cos the Ikeja corridor which is the redline route has flyovers being built at all the railway crossing to separate train and vehicular movement unlike what you currently have where this accident happened.

    • @olufemiomosebi8476
      @olufemiomosebi8476 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@angelk1879 Can people not drive all the way round to connect and use where bridges are available? If that point is blocked off, trust me people will drive round. That's how it's supposed to be. Bridges will not be in everywhere, otherwise everybody will prefer to have bridge on their street crossing over the red rail. So, I still would say people should cultivate the attitude of driving the long journey and connect the bridge. Taking short-cuts will only continue to cut-short people's life.

    The railway should have been constructed with safety measures simultaneously. You don’t build things and then think of safety barriers later. Granted the poor judgement of the driver caused this tragedy, but there are many ways this could have been avoided. The construction design should have included safety barriers.

    Here in abroad,there are always a barrier that will close the railway crossing whenever the train is coming.The traffic red light sign will show while every vehicles must wait until the train(s) finished passing.
    Govt should do the needful on that.
    Also they need to do proper testing and trainings to the drivers b4 employing them.
    They should implement lots of policies and do proper enforcement to stop any so called damages to people’s life.

      We are becoming irresponsible as a people by blaming the government on everything. We are in a bad shape in this country but some times there's no need to victimize ourselves by coming up with comments like this. This was an accident and it can happen to anyone but at the same time i pass there at least 6 times a week to & fro from work. And people always stop with their cars and even those that are walking. Common sense should tell you that you don't need someone to tell you to take necessary precautions before you do it. Common sense should tell you that you also need to look left and right before crossing. The brakes of this car might have failed. Let's not even go in to the details of some of this drivers recklessness. We also need to take care of ourselves and be accountable for everything.

    Look at the old junk train that was brought in from scrap yard . This train has been faced out and should not be used again. This are old trains that have been abandoned for decades but the corrupt Government has brought it to run in Lagos. This is absolute disgrace and embarrassing.

    We are not ready yet! Many of us are still super uncivilized! The government are equally not helping matters! If we must make use technology safety measures must put in place first!

    Government should wake up for their responsibility, how come the rail crossing wasn't have stopper for motorists not to have access to cross? When you employ unskilled person to job that's the result. God bless Nigeria

    Nigeria Government Safety first stop killing your citizens all the time not only in Lagos this happens all over Nigeria. Build the barriers and the lights for the security.

    What happened to the barriers that they were using to stop road vehicles from moving when a train is approaching? This was a preventable accident.

    I can’t believe there was No Barriers at the intersection or crossing of the Railroad. What on earth is wrong with the Government and the Road wardens? Nigeria at her foolishness. Sad to see that lives were lost.
