The Benin Kingdom has the best traditional that has transcended from generation to generation uninterrupted over many decades and still counting....The current Oba of Benin Kingdom spoke intensively very well without mixing his word in regard to Lagos,as its extension of Benin Kingdom...God bless Benin Kingdom!!Long live Oba Eware II.

Oba of Benin coming to Lagos make a statement like that is a serious violation. It deserves a FORCEFUL response. All the Obas in Lagos should come together and make a strong statement. Give Oba of Lagos 21 days to join his family in Benin or they will forcefully remove him. Lagos state government can also abolish the throne or change the title Oba of Lagos to Eleko of Isale Eko, or Baale of Idumagbo. This MUST not go unanswered.

The Oba of Benin: A Model of Governance Aligned with Leviticus 19
In the historical tapestry of the 13th to 19th centuries, the Oba of Benin emerged as a beacon of enlightened governance, weaving a centralized system that harmonized with the principles articulated in Leviticus 19:33-35. This biblical passage, which emphasizes fair treatment of strangers, finds resonance in the Oba's reign, marked by inclusive policies and a commitment to justice.
The Oba's decision to establish a central system of governing reflected a vision rooted in equity. Leviticus 19:33 underscores the importance of embracing strangers as equals, resonating with the Oba's approach of welcoming diversity within the territories of Benin. The Oba recognized that unity thrives on inclusivity, and his reign epitomized the embodiment of Leviticus 19's call to treat strangers with love and respect.
A distinctive aspect of the Oba's rule was the prohibition of slave sales across Benin's territories. This prohibition not only showcased a commitment to human rights but also aligned with Leviticus 19:35, which condemns unrighteousness in judgment. By rejecting the sale of fellow humans, the Oba upheld a standard of righteousness that echoed the biblical injunction against injustice in matters of trade and judgment.
Furthermore, the Oba of Benin's refusal to impose the kingdom's language and culture on neighboring regions demonstrated a respect for diversity, mirroring Leviticus 19:34. The Oba recognized the importance of preserving the unique identities of neighboring communities, showcasing a leadership style that respected the autonomy of others-a stark departure from colonial tendencies seen elsewhere.
The Oba's commitment to freeing slaves and prisoners of war, allowing them to resettle within the kingdom after a designated period, reflected a compassionate approach in line with Leviticus 19's teachings. The biblical emphasis on treating strangers as equals found practical expression in the Oba's policies of liberation and reintegration, fostering a society built on justice and mercy.
Evidently, the legacy of the Kingdom of Benin endures, with descendants assuming leadership roles in various Southern Nigerian communities. This widespread influence serves as a testament to the enduring impact of the Oba's governance model. The principles of Leviticus 19:33-35, advocating fair treatment and love for strangers, continue to resonate in the cultural and political fabric of Southern Nigeria, where the Oba of Benin's enlightened rule left an indelible mark on the pages of history.
    All hail the King!

There are no Benin towns and cities around Lagos .All the towns and cities around Lagos are Yoruba towns and cities. That indicates Lagos is in Yoruba territory .Other tribe can not own a small part in the middle of the territory that has already been inhabited by another tribe. If someone go to Benin that person will find out that Benin city is also surrounded with the towns and cities of the Edo people. It is the same situation in every part of Nigeria and all over the world

Respectfully, both the Oba of Lagos and the Oba of Benin are only partially correct. The Benins conquered and forcefully imposed taxation on the existing inhabitants of Lagos island known as Eko” sometime back in 1550 A.D. This led to the instalment of Ashipa who unfortunately died before he could be installed as Oba. Upon his demise his son Ado was crowned as the first Oba of Lagos island “Eko” in 1630 A.D. The early fathers of the Lagos royal family as part of our history and lineage can be traced back to the Benin royal family. However, due to the centuries of intermarriage with the Yorubas our blood line is purely Yoruba our early forefathers/ancestors a distant memory. Hence the shared history with the people of Benin. The conquest did not extend to the entirety of Lagos as a state. Lagos was already well established, flourishing and inhabited by many Yoruba tribes before the conquest of the Benin people. I can attest to this as a true Lagosian and a member the of Isale Eko royal family. People need to get educated and stop trying to rewrite history.

I don't blame this Oba of Benin. I can only blame the Oba of Lagos for his careless talk in 2017 just to justify for snubbing Ooni in public. English royals have German ancestry but they have never said or claimed to be German. If they have done that, the English people would have abolished monarchy. English royals always say they are 100% English/British. Benin never founded Lagos Island talk less of Lagos state. According to history, people were already on ground before the Binis found their way to Lagos and forcefully imposed taxation on the existing inhabitants of Lagos island. Oyo empire did the same in several places including today's Eastern Benin Republic. Does that mean that Yoruba founded Benin Republic?

They should ask the Oba of Benin why Benin abandoned Lagos and leave Lagos to be under the control of the Yoruba people for such a long time,if Lagos belong to Benin and why did the Benin people not come before Lagos became a mega city.If Lagos actually belong to the Benin people..Coming over to Lagos when Lagos became a mega city without making any contribution towards the development of Lagos, signified that the Oba of Benin knows deep down in himself that Lagos does not belong to the Benin people, the Oba of Benin is only trying to manipulate the Yoruba people and see if it will work, but the Oba of Benin should know that the Yoruba people of this era are tough people that he can not manipulate with lies. The present Oba of Lagos should have told the Oba of Benin how he was beaten up by the Yoruba people and how he escape death and ran out of his palace for talking rubbish like the Oba of Benin

Benin didn't say they own Lagos now. They didn't say they were the first in present day Lagos but that as at one time they founded the first monarchy in the Lagos mainland where that place was a subject to the Benin throne as evident in the history of the Oba of Lagos. No one may like that facts but it's a historical facts.
USA no longer gives royalties to Britain but should it be erased that USA was once a subject to the British crown?
The message here is that we are all connected in one way or the other.

With all the problems in Benin city and Edo state, the Oba came all the way to Lagos to talk on who owns Lagos. What are the priorities of this Oba? Who wrote the history the Oba is talking about? All were mere hearsay and fabrications of the people who wanted to seen as great. Are they as great as Great Britain or USA? Beyond Benin city, this Oba does not have influence influence in Auchi, Ibarra, Ibilo and few other places. The Oba should concentrate on making his kingdom free of prostitution, kidnapping, ritual and murder.

Is there any trace of Edo ancestral language, culture, and traditions in Eko-Isale and around lagos today? Or do we have any? However, were the Binis people the first habitat in lagos? Although I might go to any new community to buy or own a land but that does not mean I founded the entire town if it became city tomorrow. There are other tribes living around the Isale-Eko before the Binis settled there, the Binis should stop all these claims of being the first to found a place or Royal seniority which they always claimed to be above Ilè-Ifẹ.

Lagos state truly leads and set the pace, others follow. A strong warning to the governor of Lagos state never should you welcome Olu iwo oba Rasheed to government house or visit the Museum. It is abomination and detestable because he's an enemy of Yoruba culture and tradition and must be kept away from yoruba heritage. Posterity will judge him.

The Oba of Benin said his ancestors found Lagos , and they started showing him Yoruba history in the land his ancestors allegedly founded…. Nothing of Benin origin in those arts and artifacts. What a funny world!😂

Aworis own Lagos, from time immemorial till today. There is some Benin connection to the throne, but there is NO connection to the land or the people. Have you ever wondered why Oba of Lagos has NO land, and has NO people?

You know better than the Oba of Lagos, Oba of Benin and the Awori leaders and rulers who have said clearly and openly that the Binis founded Lagos and they trace their history to the Binis. Let me guess you are a Yoruba from Oyo, Ogun, Osun etc 😂🤣 you guys are the ones always displaying your ignorance online. The time you use in commenting use it for a one minute research on the history of Lagos and educate yourself as there are multiple videos and interviews online on this topic, including the interview of the Oba of Lagos May 2017 guardian newspaper where he made this VERY CLEAR. Btw I am not a Bini person but I know Nigerian 🇳🇬 history.

The Oba of Lagos title is an aberration. In the traditional sense, the Oba is Lord over the land and the people. In this case, the Oba of Lagos is NOT the owner of the land or the people.

Yet we have Obaloran, Obamakin, Oba-tala, Oba-tasaa, Oba takun takun lode Iranje. The Benin boy don asked for word, and now he heard total pushback from Lagosian and all Yorubas all over the world.
