I like how your shop space actually looks used! Mess on the floor, dust on the tools...like 99% of us and unlike most TH-cam channels where everything looks like it just came out of the box.
Lol thanks! That’s the only way I know! Get in there and get your hands dirty, hard work! It’s how I was raised. I have no clue how some of these channels have pristine clean shops and tools.
I just started woodworking and find it almost impossible to keep everything spotless while you’re working. Sawdust gets into everything and tools fall over all the time. I was one of those guys that cleaned everything after a use and I’ll do my best but it’s easy to tell when I’m working. Easy
I am a welder who wants to be a carpenter/welder. A year ago, I bought a small building 8 x 12 to do some wood work projects in. I have built 6 Squirrel picnic tables and some really bad display cases. The table looks very nice. I will check out many of your videos. Thanks.
Well, i have been watching you for years, and keep coming back to your old videos for ideas. Thanks for documenting your progress as a woodworker for us.
From one retired LEO, I really appreciate your super detailed video on a great build!!! I sure hope when Im done with mine it comes out as nice as yours did!!
I really enjoy your channel and T shirts😊 Praise God. Very encouraging and inspiring. Build an island on wheels and so proud. You make me believe I can start something new. Blessings
Hello Matt. Just found your channel and I plan on this build. I just retired from the fire service after 30yrs. as a fire-medic. Did wood working with my father growing up. You have inspired me to resume the craft I loved as a child. Thank you.
Matt, just saw a video of you on Facebook as an ASP talking abt school bus safety. Makes me like your videos that much more! As a LEO myself, that is the one traffic law I enjoy enforcing the most! Thanks for your service and keep up the great videos!
Thank you so much. I watch your videos all the time and you have helped me with insight and tips/ tricks. I am a new DIY craftsman and have been working really hard to support my family in building indoor and outdoor farmhouse projects and furniture. I always seem to get stuck with things in the middle of a build and also trying to figure out what to build next. I really love this line of work due to my 7 plus years doing home repair, build and remodel work. I don't really like the idea of being away from home/family 60 hours a week and making someone else's fortune for them, just to get treated like a number. Your dedication is contagious to me and I have to get on here alot and watch your videos to get back on track. You have no idea how much of a difference and impression you are on mine and most likely Thousands of people. God bless you and your family brother! Thank you very much Sir!!!!!!!
I really like I really like your stuff I've already made some money off of the stove top noodle boards and the blanket ladder and I'm really encouraged I've been doing woodworking a good whilelong time worked in cabinet shop so finally got me small shop so excited about the new new phase of my life possibly so I definitely am going to attempt to make this table I will keep you posted ty my name is Ronald thank you
This project is on my to-do list for this week and I am going to make a matching end table. I know this video is an oldie and I am late to the party but one thing I did notice was when you did the pocket holes for the top horizontal rails the pocket holes are facing to the end of the board. I am sure the rest is beefy enough to not make a difference but as a "Best Practice" it would probably be better to have those on the other side so they angle down the length of the side. The top will cover them as well so it is a win/win situation. The lowers of course don't matter as they are in the middle of the vertical "legs". Just something for any other newbies to make note of down the road. Great Video as always.
Thank you, you are inspiring me to take my casual hobby into a possible vocation. This looks great! I have been watching a few of your videos. My local church has a furniture mission to displaced families in need of furniture and household items. I spoke to the man in charge and he says they are always short of tables, coffee tables, end tables and dressers. I am hoping to make a few of those items ( based on your videos) learn the tricks and tips and then donate to the ministry. I wanted you to know your influence is beyond just woodworking.
I decided to get into some weekend wood working and chose to make this my first project, furniture build. I’ve got a long ways to go but it took me the weekend to complete and have put the last coat of sealant on to dry. Ready to use it tomorrow and will post a few pictures, it was fun!
Thank you for the great video's! I have built 3 pcs of furniture so far. The last was a Sofa/TV Console table (without the X) but wrapped the upper and lower parts of the legs with rope and added a cleat on the top of both ends to make it nautical. It came out great! I really appreciate your instructional video's. I have learned to many tips to help understand the different ways to make it look more professional. I sold my store bought furniture, took that money and purchased wood for my "new" custom furniture.
Really enjoy your channel and your approach to teaching you building experience. Thank you for your content and builds! Getting some great ideas and leaning a lot from you.
SUPER HAPPY i found you on here. I have been watching your videos and it gave me confidence to build some things i wanted. Ive been wanting a table like this when I look them up I dont want to pay over $300 for one so ill definitely be attempting to make one now!
Thank you Matt. Ive wanted to start a woodworking side hobby/business for a long time. Really just hoping to make enough to eventually pay for the tools. And I love it so far. Appreciate all of your detailed videos.
Definitely going to use smaller dimensions to make a coffee table and end table to match. First, I have to order the Z clips. Your channel has given me a lot of confidence. Thanks for sharing these awesome builds!
I've watched hours of how to videos on TH-cam and frankly this has to be my favorite channel this far! I found your channel looking up Christmas tree boxes and I'm so glad I did! I'll tag you on how it went!
Another great project...like the simplicity and the way you did the X is awesome. I learn something new with each of your projects......continue sharing your woodworking projects HOW TO!!!!!!
So I got tire of searching for pencils as well. Try this tip...get a couple of flat rare earth magnets about the size of a quarter. Stick them together on either side of your shirt. Use a pencil with a metal clip on it and stick it to the magnets. Never lose you pencil again. I put a magnet on pretty much anything metal in my shop so I can stick a pencil on it...Bandsaw, miter saw, drill press, all have pencils right there. Hope this helps. Love your videos!
Howdy Mr. 731... I'm in my shop doing "finishing" seal on my Mailbox Makeover...Got your older videos running in the background. Honestly Matt...I truly love your older videos. It's nostalgic to me, kinda like watching Norm Abraham; New Yankee Workshop when I was a kid. I've seen this video multiple times already but I am just now noticing where your tablesaw was placed at the time. Window directly behind you/saw blade. Imagine what would have happened if you had a kick back. Lol. Your next video: How to replace and install a new window. HAHAHAHA!!!!
I know this is an older video, but I just found your channel. I used to make knives. But ran into some unfortunate circumstances and had to sell all of my tools. I'm down to a small circular say and a jig saw. A router with no bits. Oh, and a square and circular orbital sanders. I'm thinking getting into wood working because the start up tools are cheaper. A jointer, planer or thickness sander together are cheaper than a belt grinder for knife making alone. I say that to say, your videos are making me impatient! I want to get started. I'm putting together a tool shipping list now. I've got some hand tools on my list but I can get started with what I have. I've been making some bentwood rings. Going to get some wood for a lazy susan or cutting board or enough for both. Plus I have some friends with bigger tools. Drill presses, band saws, lathes if I need stuff like that. Sorry I'm rambling on. Your videos got me excited. I don't get excited about much. Your mallet video with the honor the fallen coin really earned my respect.
I love your videos and your approach to woodworking first is little guys who don’t have a shop full of 20,000.00 worth of tools and exotic woods that alone are either impossible to secure in most non metropolitan areas or you need a second job to cover the cost of said wood Your videos/instructions/tips are in my world. Harleymike/chicago
I love hearing that! I appreciate that very much. That was/is the goal of my videos. To show that you can have a modest shop and supplies and build awesome projects.
731 Woodworks to my way of thinking someone at the level of TWW or many others like him should not be or would not be going to you tube for instruction /inspiration. They already are at that level and beyond so who. Exactly is their for real target audience. Certainly not the weekend warrior who buys his wood at the big box joints. Anyway this is not a rant against them rather a praise about you and your teaching methods. Thorough and clear
Awesome instructional video. I've gone through several of yours and am using a lot of your tips on my biggest project that I've ever done which is a 9' x 7' entertainment center. I'm doing it in stages but it's coming out nicely so far.
Great project Matt. We are in the process of having our basement made into a rec room. I'll be making a variety of tables for the room using your general design techniques. Love the craftsmanship.
Thank you for this. It's exactly what a friend wants me to build her and I'm super new at this. Your video was just what I needed. And I love your accent!
I was going to ask what was a tuba-fer but I realized its for making music! Joking aside, I enjoyed the video. I especially like the simplicity of the build.

Very inspiring work! Honest and to the point while creating a great product! I'm thinking of starting a 2nd TH-cam channel with similar builds, and I will definitely be following you to learn more!
Nice build, I appreciate how you explain how to do things without expensive tools. Your jointer method is a great idea, simple to do without clamping the straight edge. I wonder if I can use a slot cutter for the table top fasteners. I like your method for the cross pieces. When they are angled in like that the pocket hole connection works great, especially if you fill the with dowel or plug of like wood. Good job.

I feel better now knowing it is really okay to be messy. I do occasionally sweep the floor
@@731Woodworks Very expensive dust extraction systems. Lol

@@731Woodworks can you tell me what length of screws to use. Thanks.
For 2x material I use 2 1/2” screws and for 1x material I use 1 1/4” screws
@@731Woodworks Thanks so much.
Well, i have been watching you for years, and keep coming back to your old videos for ideas. Thanks for documenting your progress as a woodworker for us.

That board jointing technique with the level is really slick!
Thanks. I got it from someone on Instagram
Yea I agree one of the best tips I’ve seen lately. I Do like this table style
👊🏻
I really enjoy your channel and T shirts😊 Praise God. Very encouraging and inspiring. Build an island on wheels and so proud. You make me believe I can start something new. Blessings
Thank you. You can do it!

I like your Delta Table Saw. I bought a Delta 36-725T2 two months ago and I love it. It is more than I need now but I'm growing into it.

Thanks for the information about Doug Fir. Eventually, I will know everything you know! LOL. You have a lot of knowledge based on experience. I know some of it, but I continue to pick up tips from you.
Glad to help!
I just found this video. I was looking for an idea to change up a bit and this is gona be it. I am gona make this table but with an American flag concealment top. I hope this turns out as nice looking as yours did.
Go for it!
Awesome!
Thank you!
nice work 731.
Thank you
You can get that nice Southern Yellow Pine. Up here in the Great White North, we have to settle for Doug Fir, or SPF, usually #2.
I used Doug Fir on my table bases
I will be starting on frame this afternoon, 👊
Awesome! Let me know how it turns out!
Just curious how your table turned out
Table turned out great, daughterinlaw loves it, sold 3 13x24 flags yesterday, thanks for checkin,
