I've always considered the turbines to be the first instance of human intervention in the landscapes of the game, and somewhat abrupt as a result. But you make an excellent point about the rock circles in the second level being an earlier indication of human manipulation. Great insight! As I say in my recent Journey analysis, I don't think I'd agree that Flower stresses harmony between industry and nature (rather nature's eventual triumph over industry). But I certainly _do_ agree that Flower is a unique and special game, under-played and well worth discussing.
Loved that game. I let my 60 year old mother play it, who never played anything except for Tetris. She loved it to and wanted to finish it the same evening, which she did. This game is something very special
What a great retrospective on the game that really made me fall in love with the medium in an entirely new way. You basically nailed every point I would have made myself and then some. I am an odd gamer, where I basically love it all from the most whimsical, magic and euphoria driven games to the downright bloody and depressing slaying sprees like an Amnesia, Resident Evil 4 or DOOM Eternal. But for some reason, whatever THIS genre is (and I'm speaking about games like: Flower, Journey, ABZU, GRIS, Rime, The First Tree, Exo One) etc, it simply shot to the top and has remained there ever since for what I look forward to feeling from video games. I call myself more of an "immersive experience" enjoyer in most types of art anyway (Interstellar being my favorite movie) and to think a game about a single flower petal moving through the breeze would drive a late 20's year old man to tears is insane to me. Going back to why those games and this game in specific do so much for me, I'm just a sucker for the combination of senses and feelings that they tend to pull at all at once. If you are already prone to enjoying "mystical" and "grand" set pieces like I do, then a game where you have a simply stunning backdrop of wide open fields of grass, flowers and colors simply just does it for me. Then you add in what I believe is usually either the 2nd and sometimes the #1 most important aspect of what makes these games get me and its the fucking SOUNDTRACKS. I love heavy, hardcore metal with breakdowns and screams. But then...I hear these orchestra swells, violin, piano and choir pieces in lets say a game like Journey when you are flying through the sky freely, or in ABZU there is a scene where you are effortlessly dancing in the water swimming downwards alongside a giant whale while this music is just over the top orgasmic. A section in Flower that did this for me was where the "automatic gusts" of wind blew your flower trail through these passageways while you attempted to run into each petal on the way through. The specific piece that plays "Sailing on the Wind" is just, *chefs kiss*, dreamy, light and airy piano keys with flutes gliding all over the track. It really was straight out of Pixar / Studio Ghibli film to me. And it's really just those "moments" that seem to resonate with me to such a degree that I now am and have been basically in a full crave / lookout mode for ANY new games that even come close to these because I know I will just adore them. Which is probably why I am now at the end of my backlog of games I have researched that come close to what I call the golden trio (being Flower, Journey & ABZU) so quickly. But I have to hand it to "thatgamecompany" and Flower specifically, being the first game in this very long run of searching for the euphoria and whimsy that their titles bring me on every playthrough. When I can get away from the mainstream titles and put the guns down, the competitive ranked mode trolls go away for a few hours and can just let myself be whisked away by the magic these titles hold, don't have to ask me twice. A bit long winded but always search every couple months or year to see if anyone else was moved by this game and others like it to the same degree. Happy to have found you and subscribed!
Good video about a old little game i played back in the day on playstation 3. You explained Flowers beauty really well and you had a calm and professional voice through the video. Glad to hear you liked the game and i hope you have a great day.
I played this game ages ago after learning about it from playing and loving Journey, and your video has made me appreciate that little game even more than I did back then, now with a clearly perspective on the relationship between humanity and nature that this game conveys. Thank you, and I hope you have a lovely day too. :3

Sometimes when life is just bitter I find these games to be huge support, glad there are people making them
