With eyes, less is more in small scale. Nice job for a first go. I had a small fighter pilot figure and instead of doing his eyes i made sun glasses for him instead. lol
I’ve been waiting for someone to make a Jedi survivor diorama and I have to say the wait was worth it, you did a killer job and the editing did a great job pacing the video
Hi dude, I just wanted to say; this is the 1st video of you I came across. And I've been watching your other videos for the last few hours. Your voice is really soothing, your dioramas are great, and your video editing is very well done. I subscribed to you obviously. Keep up the great work! Cheers from the Netherlands
I applaud your “beginner” attempt at portrait painting. I would never guess you didn’t do it all the time. I recently got into printing and painting miniatures and consequently had to learn to paint. Specifically skin tones. I’m definitely still deep in the learning curve, but I’m improving. One cheat I use is water transfer decals for eyes. I’m just not quite there yet.
Some mig streaking grime on the rivets dragged down and a few flicks of rust effects by mig on the corners of the grates...makes a huge difference. Some Iraqi sand on the high points on the pants would look dragged over the terrain and sun bleached look. For faces, look up Night Shift, he does a quick and easy method. Give them a try...
That was great. I saw one of those “Black Series Centerpiece” Hoth Luke things done with a similar lightsaber years ago, and have always wondered how I’d go about it. Now I can start making a plan for mine.
Fantastic build, yet again! I know the feeling of being taunted by the most overwhelming part of a project. Good on you for pushing through though and making a video when you thought about not doing so. It came out great.
Wow this looks great. First time seeing your work. I have say painting faces kinda Scares me too!!! After watching some day I give it a try too. Nice going👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Well i was going to say how awesome your OSL painting skills are from the thumbnail... more fool me it would seem! - Im new here so not sure what to expect, but i like you so I'll sub, your terrain making is very good! Don't worry about painting faces and eyes, its a practice thing mostly and having a small enough brush and hand control. The face tutorial you followed is a pretty classic style, one I've used my self a lot over the many years I consider it my go to table top gaming standard. regarding eyes specifically - let me try and help you here: start with a dark flesh colour (similar tone to the flesh wash) and paint that under the eyebrow, then black for the eye itself, it helps a lot to think this black some, Then when its fully dry use a tiny brush and apply a while line moving sideways along the eye. when dry use a cocktail stick tiny brush or even a soft tip pen to apply the iris/pupil. For small models just do the iris black, for larger ones do the iris and pupil separately if you can manage it.(again it takes practice). When it comes to fine work like eyes I like to cradle my painting hand inside the bottom half of the palm of the hand holding the model, Making sure to also be resting both elbows on something - this adds stability, and will help you a lot! you should also learn to exhale before making the brush stroke (pretend your a sniper... no no.. Im serious.) If (and only if) the model is dark haired you should also apply eyebrows, doing light coloured eyebrows is usually a bad idea unless you are a VERY skilled mini painter because its so easy to get the tone wrong. Finally, If you make a mistake.. simply apply the dark flesh tone over the eye (or part of) and start again, no need to scrub the whole model. for practice I recommend collecting and painting an imperial guard infantry army for 40k ;)
Very nice workmanship. I was wondering if you would ever build one for somebody who want to have one of these statues and how much would you charge for making one???🤔
Superb. Just little trick for you to be more confident for faces. Dont paint all the face before painting the eyes. Begin with them. If you want to put black it is your choice, but normally we put white not pure but with a little amount of red or grey (it depends of the expression you want) Never put pure white because the white of natural eyes is never "white" but with little red and other tones. Don't be to precise with your application because you will refit with your skin tone paint. When it is done properly use a graphite to put the pupils and choose the pupil orientation (the most important is to avoid strabism). When you are happy with you may use the trick with the tooth pick and tiny amount of acrylic paint with no dilution for the iris. You may apply the same technique for the black pupil. When it is done you will try to put the skin tone and don't have the fear to fail in the eye paint because they are already done. It is the most important part of the figure because it is the point always focus by the people first, than it is really important. To have more realism you will put a little amount of white in the pupil to have a high light but only of you are confident with, don't ruin your work if you are not confident (it depense also of the scale). Finally use a gloss varnish to have the moist aspect of eye. For the skin tone AK make really handy sets to make it easier. Cheers.
I know this sounds mad but I feel like we are hand twins. I love your videos 👍🏼 watching them makes me think I’ve made these amazing dioramas due to the hand situation. Then I snap out of it and realise I didn’t. Oh well. Keep it up!
Did you complain about the color of the grass, and then paint over it? I guess I'm confused on why you are struggling to use the grass mat. No bother, it came out great!
Very nice! You should be encouraged by that paint job. Everything turned out great!
Thanks, man! I couldn't have done it without your awesome mini lightsaber tutorials, though. They were a massive help, so thanks for that 😁
Hi Boylei.

Nice job for a first go. I had a small fighter pilot figure and instead of doing his eyes i made sun glasses for him instead. lol
Absolutely ! Exquisite pieces.both of you are fantastic ☺️
It was the real definition of trust the process when you primed everything
That solution for the lightsaber wiring is some big brain move. You also hid the black tubing behind some foliage. Chapeau for that great dio!
Thank you! Good spot with the foliage.....I did wonder if anyone would notice 😅
I’ve been waiting for someone to make a Jedi survivor diorama and I have to say the wait was worth it, you did a killer job and the editing did a great job pacing the video
Much appreciated!
Now that would make a "collector's edition" ! 😉
Fantastic build, This is the first video of yours that youtube decided to show me. I can't wait to see what else you get up to!
That clear heat shrink to hide the wire is so smart!!
Brilliant man! Got some good laughs along the way too 😂
Thanks man!
Interesting process doing the tufts before priming but i like it
Awesome video, I love that game too!
The saber affect is perfect!
What a fantastic diorama. I love it. So detailed. 👏👏👏

That's sounds like a pretty good idea if you ask me
if you struggle with eyes there is some amazing eye decal sets for 100s of different scales, once you blend them in they look fantastic
That's a great idea!
Absolutely incredible diorama! Painting skin is a pain, but I think you nailed it

I've always liked the really well thought out ways you add the lights in, also it would be cool to see you do a clone wars scene sometime
Such a good solve with the saber! Great build, can't wait to check out the rest of your channel!
Thanks a bunch!
Nice job - faces are the bane of my painting experiences too.
Amazing and the paint job on him was fantastic!
Thank you very much!

Dude... It looks awesome! The paint job on Cal is amazing. It all looks fantastic!!!
Much appreciated, bud! Thank you 😊
Your work seems to be a mixture of something extraordinary and a bit of a tutorial. Good job on this masterpiece. ;-)
Thank you! I do try and aim somewhere between entertaining and tutorial 👍
Very well done! Love your Star Wars builds! Looking forward to see what you make next!
Glad you like them!

Hell yeah man! What a beautiful peice! I think you nailed the head (and everything else). Special thanks for teaching me how to paint the torso
Thanks man! Sorry about said torso painting 😅 I felt the video was getting too long and didn't want to bore you more than I had to 😁

Brilliant work yet again... At one point Kal looked a bit like Rick Astley before you attached his head to the body.
What's funny is you're not the first to have said that!
Amazing build what type of brushes do you use
Masterpiece!
Im glad you think so!

Cool. I'm a new Sub on your channel 👍
Thanks for the sub!
I think you'll find that in the sequel cal has a handlebar mustache and a mullet 😂
Maybe I should give him an interchangeable head? 🤔
i dont think it was your fault painting the head was hard, i reckon its cus the model didnt have the base facial hair from the game
Cal needs his facial hairrr
The face was good until it was paint.
