  • This was a special request for me to look at this trucks upfitter PTO to isolate the problem on the customers side. It ended up being no PTO request trigger voltage present at the ECM.

    Great video. Is there anyway I could compensate you for helping me troubleshoot my unit? I need some direction of where to look first. I have an f550.

    You supplied power with your meter but did not actually say what was the cause of the problem. What is broke/not working to cause this? Thanks

    • @LeeSurber
      @LeeSurber  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry! The task was only to determine whether problem was truckside or builder interface. It was not a Ford issue.

      What did your test determine? What circuit did you power? What was your conclusion?

    What’s up brothah. I’m working on a 2018 Ford F650 6.7 with air brakes. I’m having the same issue. Park brake indicates “set” both on the dash and my scanner. The yellow and green wire going to the ECM has full voltage with the switch on. I’m not getting the correct signal coming to the relay from the ECM on the blue and white wire. The blue and white wire is at 4v and not the ground signal I need.
    I’m thinking EMC. Any ideas?

    • @LeeSurber
      @LeeSurber  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The blue and white wire must be pulled low to ground before the PTO will engage! Use a relay triggered by the park brake switch! Force the ground!

    ok so heres my issue.. 2012 f550 when i turn the truck on depress the parking brake, then flip my switch pto will work, do my job be done , soon as i touch the gas pedal and start driving and get to where i need to go reset parking brake hit pto switch it will not work! i have to turn the truck off and turn it back on for it to work:. it seems when the accelerator pedal is touched while trucks running the pto will not work, you will have to turn truck off and back on any ideas why??

    • @LeeSurber
      @LeeSurber  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The accelerator pedal is triggering a safety parameter which is meant to protect the PTO from being over-driven with throttle..!! I have never tried to trigger PTO shutdown with the throttle, then drive it without shutdown, then re-engage the PTO..!! It should be smart enough to reset or time out after being driven..!! Once again, I have never tried this..!! It could be a firmware programming issue..!!

    Hello Lee.
    I'm having issues with my PTO not engaging.
    2011 F560 AT 37
    I checked the voltage on SW...
    I have power there!
    Power leaves the SW on a gray wire into the dashboard.
    There is also power on the red wire of the LED indicator light.
    But no power is coming in on the blue and white wire that is attached to the white wire on the LED indicator light.
    where does the blue and white wire come from?
    Does the Blu- Wht wire complete the circuit to the PTO?
    I dont have schematics...
    Any information will be sincerely appreciated.
    Thanks, Lee

      It should complete circuit at pto. Check at pto with power probe to ensure pto solenoid is working and all continuity is good through connector.

      Sorry Weldon, I just took a new position where I will no longer be working on commercial vehicles..!! Unfortunately, I am not taking side jobs either, but I will refer you to a trusted source who should be able to get you going! Talk to Johnny @ Pete's Truck & Automotive in Waxahachie. Request Javier to work on your vehicle.

    What can cause a PTO to not come on? See on the dash that the PTO is on but it doesn't do anything. I feel like it could be the solenoid valve near the pump

      Solenoid is the first thing to check.

    Hello. My PTO will not engage after I've been on the freeway (I'm assuming getting warm). After I have let it sit for about 5 to 10 mins, It will work. If I just drive around town, It will work every time, But as soon as I take it on the freeway... nothing, until it " cools down". The engine temp is just fine, and the coolant bottle is full. Any suggestions?. Any way I just bypass something?

      All temperature related data should be validated against vin specific specs, including transmission temps.

    How's it going, I work for Altec and my truck got taken to go get a recall done for the frame, upon coming back I tried using the PTO and it would not engage and on the dashboard it would give me that I had no hill assist and advance service track, I have it at the dealership right now and they can't seem to find the issue and I was wondering if you might know what is causing that on my service truck. I would appreciate it if you can give me any pointers hope you see this message and thanks.

      The last time I saw this problem I believe it ended up being the start/stop module wiring!

      I appreciate it thanks for your response and I will relay this message to these guys I told them that to as well but there kids fresh out of school so more and likely there not going to figure it out, not trying to knock these kids down at all but I was hoping they would have given it to the most experienced, but thanks and hope you keep on making videos especially on Altec service trucks and thanks

    a question when I activate the pto the revolutions rise to more than 2000

    • @LeeSurber
      @LeeSurber  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on PTO mode in programming! Try activating cruise control then pressing the -minus key! If that doesn't work you will need software parameters set! On many later model trucks you can change these parameters by going into commercial settings in the menu as seen on the instrument cluster display!

    • @LeeSurber
      @LeeSurber  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@I_am.Joshua__ Those are normally powered by the auxiliary switch. That's normally the switch that you use to turn the PTO on. It's most likely a ground issue at the boom.
