Another that I really like is “Bio Prototype” it has an interesting upgrade/build system. Even if it does lack some form of persistent upgrade (there is only weapons/items and character unlock)
I'm surprised that "magic survival" by LEME isn't mentioned in this video, although the video is about clones of vampire survivors so I guess it's to be expected. So here's a bit of history on Magic Survival. Well, magic survival is the mobile exclusive equivalent of vampire survivors coming out on February 13, 2021, a bit over a month earlier than vampire survivors, coming out on March 31, 2021.
Great point! Like you said, my focus was more on the clones and I only briefly referenced that Vampire Survivors was inspired by mobile games. VS was absolutely the popularizer, not the originator, of the genre.
Spirit hunter recently got an upgrade that added spell evolution. At a certain level, you will be proposed augmented version of the spell that have a unique twist (like pea shooter in the vines).
I pretty much 100% Spirit of Horde now. Those challenges are the main reason it keeps my attention this long cuz it forces me to think / utilize each and every weapons. I do think that the progression of this game is a bit flawed at the beginning because many of those weapons cannot reach its real potential from start and requires lengthly upgrade for it to be good/ usable. It'd be better for them to let you unlock the special abilities on those weapons way earlier . I think with the latest patches, most of the weapons have proper upgrades that make them change significantly in terms of playstyle. But I do have to give credit that spirit of horde is the prettiest survivors clone I've ever seen thanks to the 2D hand-drawn artstyle. Wish more survivors are as pretty as this. Alittle tired of pixel or full 3D version of these already. My new favourite of survivors clone is Crafty Survival.
20 Minutes Til Dawn, Boneraiser Minions, Neon Sundown and Spellbook Demonslayers seem like the standouts. Will have to check some of these out!
Those were definitely some of my favorites for sure! And since most of these games are in early access, they’ll probably get even better over time.

There's Daisenka... tho it is a H-game. Basically VS + tower defense + spice
Nova Drift is another game with a similar progression loop.
