The amp sounds fantastic. The mint Gibson melts my heart. Great playing, as always.

that tone is so dirty, esp. for a fender. Great job on the video, left no questions.

Jack mentioned that this was $750.00, what a difference 2 years make. $1250.00 currently without the special cab

Unfortunately prices have sky rocketed and Shut downs during covid forced a lot of companies out of business, all that combined I've been forced to raise my prices if I want to build amps and eat, trust me it's not what I wanted to do!! I have also made a lot of upgrades to the circuit, I'm very impressed with Jupiter, those tone caps are killer!

Hey folks, hope you enjoyed the demo! There is one error to note -- there's a mixup in the labeling of the switch. When you hear it louder with more gain, thats "Stock 5e3" - when you hear it quieter and cleaner, its JTM. Thanks, and happy rocking!

    • @tiki_trash

I noticed that. Thanks for correcting this. I was scratching my head wondering why the nfb was producing more dirt when it was engaged. I figured you got it mixed up somehow.

It's also the amp favored by Luther Perkins (Johnny Cash's guitarist), Muddy Waters, Neil Young (Rust Never Sleeps), The Edge, and likely more. Those first two names were enough to sell me on it.

Is the only way to have the two Volume controls linked is to use a patch cord from the one channel to the other?
I ask because some other 5E3 models I have seen seem to have the two Volumes in series stock without using a patch cord.
Thanks in advance. very well done video.
    Phil

$750 for the amp? I guess inflation has hit Franklyn fairly hard over the last 4 years as it's now listed as $1300.

"This is about 100 times the amp of a "Blues Junior" ~ Jack Fossett
I think Jack REALLY likes this amp? He sold me! I want to hear it plugged into a 4X12 loaded with Celestion Blues!!!!

I'm changing my 5E3 to a head cab to get rid of the pounding the tubes take sitting so close to the speaker.
Combos add a lot on noise due to all that vibration.
Everyone knows that a NOS 5Y3GT rectifier is the ONLY way to run these amps ! and its not like they are expensive.

The jensen 8 inch internal speaker has that 7.5 kHz extension in the highs that gives a raspy sounds with overdrive.

5e3 is (IMHO) the best amplifier ever! Obviously amps are subjective, some like Marshalls, some like Fender,Orange,Vox etc etc But im arguably a Fender fanboi. I strater of liking more high gain Marshally stuff, but after growing and listening to lots of music and different guitarists, lots were using small cranked Fenders. I purchased a butchered kit built 5e3 head of ebay over a decade ago, got it working but it was never what it should have been. Fast forward and after stopping playing guitar for over a decade and getting back into it and being a bit more financial than i was, i just got a local custom built Tweed Deluxe clone made by local legendary builder Labros from Achilles. I was going to buy a Fender repro but the quality is not there compared to the Achilles. Amp is totally amazing, the creamy powertube distortion is delightful and the sustain is out of this world! Ive had dozens of amps over the years and this is by far the best. I might do some of the common 5e3 mods (its pretty well vanilla apart from a 16ohm winding in opt and a pentode/triode switch) around the place given time, short term i will play with speakers ( i have a few vintage options to try, just getting familiar with new Jensen thats in it) and i have a set of vintage tubes to go in when i do first speaker change. Mine wasn't as good a "value" as this one, it was pretty well same as Fenders current offering, that being said the build and component quality is so far above the Fenders it is a no brainer and is better value.

I have this amp and it’s fantastic, I run mine into a 1x12 speaker cabinet. I wish I could add a little more bite to it like Neil Young’s 5e3. All in all the Franklyn amp is a very fine amp.

Love the different sounds of the feedback switch also being able to use another speaker cabinet like a 2x12. Having the 8 inch speaker is also cool for bedroom playing or practicing. I wish we had Franklyn amps in Australia. Would love one but we have different voltage here. 240 volts instead of your 110 volts.

@@JackFossett Just seeing this. FWIW, I worked with Derryck on a custom 5F6A head/cab build with two 8" speakers in the head and a matching 4x10 cab. Would recommend dropping him a line - he's incredibly easy to work with and the finished product is outrageous.

Hello Jack. I pulled the trigger and purchased a 66 Casino. Now I am looking for the perfect amp to honor the vintage p90s. How does this compare to the Fender Tweed Delux, besides the speaker?

  • @Bleats_Sinodai

I looked it up, and the built-in speaker is a Jensen C6V, 6-inch speaker, not 8 inch!!!
[Edit] I've been informed it's not the case for every model of this maker, and the example in the video indeed uses an 8 inch speaker.

    • @JackFossett
      @JackFossett  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

No on mine it’s an 8 inch. He uses different speakers in different amps.
