All vets with service animals need to check with the mental health clinics, there are limitations on were you can take your dogs. I go to the Vet Center in Reno and we have 2 guys with dogs and talk about these issues and this issue was advised of this fact. Any property oner has the right to refuse service to anybody for any reason. Their just protecting their investment, so don't take it personal and I'm sure there are other places that will except you and your dog with open arms. Just don't give up the search. Or just come over to my house and we serve ear massages, belly rubs and scratches! And for a few extra bucks you get SPA quality.

An emotional support animal is NOT a service dog.
That is correct. These dogs are disgusting in restaurants.
@@theoriginaldashriprock Thats right because service animals are highly trained animal to do a job for the vet. They have to obey all commands from their vet companion. emotional support animal aren't trained at all.
Back in 2011 when a property manager tried to deny my service dog, I was told by an ADA attorney that if she continued to refuse me, I should call the FBI and have her arrested. The attorney told me this while on speaker phone with the property manager. When the manager scoffed at the advice, the attorney placed the call for me. Problem solved.
What an excellent solution, good to know!
I would just feel like complete crap denying anyone with a service dog. Some people seem to enjoy it, miserable people I guess. I thought people would know better by now anyways but you know people are stupid too. Let the dogs be freeeeee

Well, first off, only a complete idiot doesn't know the law about service animals, and the bartender was the first line of defense. Certainly, the owner should have known, being in that business and all. So, I really see no excuse here. Better yet, he can have the owner arrested. Like he said, it's a federal offense.
@@LadyMaven sadly, that’s not true. There are so many businesses and government agencies that are clueless about service dogs and the laws surrounding them. If I could raise the money, I’d film a training video and distribute it for free through my nonprofit. Unfortunately, I’ve not been able to get funding.
A service animal is similar to eye glasses, hearing aid or wheelchair. It falls under the same protection as a medical device.
It's different from a comfort or animal companion.
In German, disciplined dogs are allowed in most restaurants, while undisciplined children are not.

Like he said, "this is what I get for serving my country". The only time anyone knows a soldier is when they are in the service. Retired Canadian pilot here, we dealt with this issue everyday. In Canada the rules for service animals is very clear and strict. A service dog will have the appropriate training and documentation provided by an approved agency. Emotional support animals for PTSD are documented and only approved for certain groups of people, usually ex military or first responders. Every day usually several times a day passengers would show up with an emotional support animal and a document/card which they paid $25 for off the internet. The vast majority of these emotional support animals were cats and small dogs that the people didn’t want to put in a cage and have to pay for separately
The big excuse in CA is that they are "comfort animals." You can bring ANY animal into ANY place of business under that b.s. cover. smh
In the U.S., we’re allowed to train our own service dogs and there is no requirement for certification. In fact, the last time I spoke with an ADA lawyer, it was against the law to require certification. The law was written to allow those of us with disabilities to have access to service dogs without having to shell out thousands of dollars for them. Unfortunately, this means you get dogs trained only to the ability of the person training them. And you get dogs of every temperament.

Over a dog? You people need to get a grip.
Medical reasoning for federal law can NOT legally deny services as it is now discrimination
The service dog thing has gotten way out of control. Nine out of 10 times I’m a person against regulations, but this thing needs to be regulated. there’s people bringing their dogs and other animals into freaking grocery stores home improvement centers, and claim their a service animal. No way have a majority of them ever had one minute of training. The owner of the animal should have government papers and the legitimate service animal should have a tag on it or something. While it doesn't make it right and ignorance is not a valid excuse. but you may want to consider the area your in. Is there a base close by? if not then they are probably not really informed on the subject. If there is a base near by then there is less excuse for them not knowing. The laws have been in existence for decades.
Service dogs themselves have existed even longer than that, and exist all around the world.
And many service dog teams were not in the military.
So whether or not there is a military base near by is irrelevant and not an excuse to not know the laws.
There is zero excuse for people not to know about service dogs and the laws.
The ada protects even more than just those with service dogs.
Service dogs r just one portion of it.
And he did try telling them the laws.
They still chose to ignore it.

@carriehollyland3596 I don't know what the laws are for service dogs inside restaurants. I would understand if they were blind, but that's not the case here. If you don't deal with it everyday, and she clearly doesn't, then how would she know. People need to quit jumping to "let's cancel this bar", and realize the vet could have done a better job explaining himself, rather than pulling out his phone and berating her.
@@robw9852 blindness is not the only disability that exists, nor is it the only disability that service dogs r highly trained to help with.
And the lack of an education is one of the major issues in this country.
The guy legit told her what the law was, all she had to do was look it up on her phone.
It's not that hard.
And the ada laws have been in existence for decades, service dogs have existed for even longer than that.
There is no reason not to know about it by now.
And anyone who plans on opening a business should 100% be educated on all laws that pertain to their business which includes the ada laws, which will include service dogs.
And they 100% should be making sure anyone they hire is also educated on it as well.
Meaning even when she did call the owner, he should have known the laws, and should have told her the laws.
If a business owner is not willing to do any of that, then they should not be in business.
He tried telling her the laws even before she called.
And he continued to try telling her and the owners the laws.
She and the owner refused to listen or bother to educate themselves.
And in all honesty, it really is not even the service dog handler's responsibility to be educating every single staff person in every single business in this country.
That is the responsibility of the business owner, and the employees themselves.
There is zero excuse for the way that employee and that business owner to behave the way they did both during the incident and even after the incident.

Sadly less than 7% of US citizens serve in the military historically. (WWII excepted)
“Go fight in a pointless war so you don’t disrespect me.”
This scenario does not represent disrespect for military.
If any person doesn't follow the BOSSE'S rules, they're subject to being fired.

If an employer fires an employee for following the federal and state laws, the employer can be charged and sued with wrongful termination.
The employee shouldn't have even called in the first places.
The laws have been in existence for years.
There is no reason for her no to know them.
Well, that's pretty stupid
Nah. My beef is with the idiots who buy vests for their pets and claim they are "service dogs". That is what created this mess. I'm NOT saying this was the case with this guy. Many veterans have service dogs to help them overcome various issues. I will always respect a person with a legitimate service dog. I have zero respect for those who fake it.
I got to admit it was wrong! But she can only follow what her boss tells her to do unless she actually knows the law and in this case she did not, she had to go by the word of her boss! Although I do think that she definitely owes him an apology!
The owner has to be severed charges for breaking the law. This stupidity will continue if there is no recourse.
It's the owner's fault, not Karen's. 🌩
It is both of their faults.
Both the Karen employee and the owner both chose to break the laws.
@@carriehollyland3596 I appreciate your comment...I think she's just trying to keep her job. In cases like this, I usually side with the Karen. I doubt she knows the laws surrounding her actions.
@@timothykearns2232 breaking the law is a good way of getting charged, and sued, which could lead to loss of job and u could struggle to find a new job then because of it.

She clearly showed compassion.
So, what was the eventual outcome of this, seeing as how it was posted almost a year ago, and did you sue..?!
Their rules do not supersede federal ADA laws. I’m battling with ADA violations myself with my diabetes. I hope this video goes viral and they get slammed with negative reviews and thousands of phone calls.

I think everyone is over reacting.
That's horrible , but sadly not surprising. I am currently trying to raise funds so that I can use my parents" house to help veterans from Western countries wishing to have a place to stay while in France (about 50 miles from the D day beaches) and the small house separate from it as a yearlong free haven for veterans with problems adapting back to civilian life or currently suffering from PTSD (that' being only opened to Germans and French, under the Friendship banner). And I suppose that's why Yahoo recommended me your video as one of the reasons I am trying to offer this is that I have come across so many veterans being refused the respect they are owed for their service, and when offered one it is "but without your dog".
Here dogs will be allowed. If I can raise the funds for the renovations, as I'm putting all I have into buying off the house after my father's death.
Please know, that if I succeed raising the funds for it, you and your brothers will be welcome to stay with your dog, service dog or companion dog, it won't matter to me, as the least one should do for combat veterans is to make them feel welcome with their fury friends!
Thank you. I love what your mission is for veterans.

I think we must set apart two diferent things here. One, it is a fact that you are a service man and, has served the country. We bow our heads and thank you. Like wise to your service dog. Two, the lady behind the counter is an employee doing her job. If she has been instructed not to allow pets, wether a service one or a companion, as policy of the bar - restaurant, she must comply with such policy. Would you insist in been served, along with your service dog, knowing that she is going to be fired? Thanks.
He's trying to get her fired, and publicly shamed so.... there's that.
Seems like a minor misunderstanding to me that was cleared up pretty quick. Let's not make a mountain out of a mole hill. The bartender was following the owner's directions. Part of the problem is all the people who buy a 'Service Animal' harness from Amazon and put it on their dog. It takes away from the real people who have real service animals. I'm glad it got resolved.
I missed the part where it was resolved, unless you mean him being thrown out of the place was a resolution.

Just following the rules is no defense from lawsuits.
Just following the rules is no defense for common sense.
This is just disgusting behaviour even though you have told over again that your dog is a service animal from this restaurant please stay strong 💪

No
There's no requirement that he needs to.

Young and ignorant of the law, a lethal combination, especially when she thinks she's right.
. *She is just an employee; the owner said no, per video.*
He keeps saying "service dog" but never says what service the dog has been trained to do? Emotional support animals are not covered by the ADA in this situation.
Right. Everyone wants to call her a POS and cancel this bar. They need to chill. She was on the phone obviously asking a manager or owner about it. She offered a solution, to be seated at the patio. I understand it's a service animal, but sitting at the bar/restaurant isn't the best place for an animal. And what happens if a patron is allergic? Do they now have to leave? This veteran could have done better, instead of acting like a liberal and pulling out their phone over what is likely the first time this bartender has been in this situation. He deals with it all the time, she doesn't. Maybe don't treat them like crap and make a bigger deal out of it than it needed to be
He was not asked what service the dog provides.
He does not have to volunteer that information when he was never asked by the business staff.
Also, just because he did not say in this video (because he was not asked during the time the video was recorded) does not mean the dog is an ESA and not a service dog.
By the way, the dog is a service dog, not an ESA.
There was a lot more to this story than just this video.
The business and that employee screwed up big time and broke the laws.
@@carriehollyland3596 Big fuc*king deal.
An emotional support animal is NOT a service animal, and the ADA law states that he does not have to reveal what disability he has in order to justify his service animal. As long as he can prove the certification, that’s all he has to do.
i want to know the follow up
Yeah, how many lives did you get to ruin?
I would like to know the follow-up please
As a vet too I would like to have seen the service dog. Far too many scams with using dogs as service animals out there. He wasn’t blind obviously, so what does he have an emotional support dog? If so you need a different kind of support. The VA failed him that way…
Karen, blindness is not the only type of disability that exists, nor is it the only disability that service dogs r highly trained to help with.
Just because u lack an education does not mean his service dog is an ESA.
And per the American rights and laws service dog teams have protected American rights which includes public access rights and rights to privacy.
As a vet u should already know that.
The fact that u don't and that u r mocking fellow vets and Americans is extremely disgusting and disrespectful, and is a failure to this country.
Being a baby . Just because of Vet status doesn't make someone a god. They think we owe them something.
He's a disgrace to the uniform. What a bit*ch.
Food prep laws and people laws do conflict at times, but we should try to work together and respect each other. Service on the patio could work with out some one needing to check the other. I'm a combat vet and our service animals do keep us in the now state of mind. Staying out of a bar also works. Fur and food not a good mix and may cause eating customers to go elsewhere.
I find a dog in a restaurant appalling.
