Good timing on the Days Gone talk, I was just gushing over how far in the distance those shadows and trees kept detail and consistency, what a handsome game. More of these please Sony and yeah we want GT7 Ray Tracing in-game, maybe GT8.
There are a couple of long videos of various gorilla devs speaking on the creation and implementation of DECIMA only catch is its the early years of its use in HZD, haven't seen any updates on its ps5 update and use with HFW or Death Stranding 1 and 2. It is interesting nonetheless and a truly remarkable engine, I dare say one of the best in terms of efficiency and graphical quality.
SSS was used in red redemption 2 too, looks so great. The deph bias method for the ground looks amazing. Days Gone is still one of the best looking ue4 game.
I found the PSVR 2 section very interesting, especially the part about hardware supported non-linear rasterization. I'm not sure how uncommon this feature is in GPUs, but it would be a huge advantage for VR performance, and would explain a lot in terms of why games on PS5/PSVR 2 are outperforming VR games on more powerful PCs. I thought it was mostly due to foveated rendering. Hopefully Sony is streamlining the integration of these features into their engines, so more first party games can have VR support.
Why is this depth bias stored separately in Gbuffer and not resolved together with the Depth channel in GBuffer? Is it because some passes uses depth and other uses depth + depth biases? Whats the reasoning behind it?
Would love to see an open-source implementation of that screenspace shadowing technique, especially on OpenGL. If anyone knows of one, I'd love to know :D compute shaders are a little too far beyond my field of understanding.
60/120 is not high a frame rate? The game has really bad ghosting I wish they would work more on the VR part of the game with the updates as it is very impressive as it is, It could be better though.

Is that the correct multiplication order at 36:53? Shouldn't it be [4x4matrix] * [4-element vector] ?
Bend Studios really did a great job with limited hardware at the time. Hope they get the recognition they deserve in their next title.

I'm still PS4 , I havent even opened some games yet. I'm good with graphics and sound because I started with 8-bit.
