I couldn't help wondering after listening to Eric's dinner menu, whether he would have cheerfully tucked in again if Sheba miraculously appeared in his bowl. I think he would have.
As a former cat owner, I know a few things about cats. I owned a cat named Inky. He was so affectionate, and very sociable. The unique thing about him was he never jumped on the table or the furniture. He would come if I called him. He was a joy, and I miss him. I'm speaking of the 80's. His coat was gray and white, the "M" in his forehead was white, as the top half of his face was gray. When it rained or snowed, he ran around the apartment like a crazy cat. I would play with him before and after work. We watched TV together. He lived like a king. He knew that the bathroom was in the bathroom, because that's where I put his litter box. Sadly, I had to give him away because where I was going wouldn't allow cats. So glad you talk to Eric, because he needs that. Did the same with Inky. I wish I had pictures of him to show you. I think you would appreciate them. Bless you and Eric. Treat him to a little catnip and capture his reaction on video. I'd be happy to watch. Ciao
Eric gets a little anxious when you are away all day. He understood what was going to happen when you told him at 7 a.m. That is why he hesitated about eating in the morning. Food equals love for most Cat but is best when you are there to encourage him. Think of how it was when he was an infant kitten suckling on his mother, it is the combination of food and security all together means love and trust.
you should get Eric a wider bowl. Cats whiskers can be sensitive, and it can be uncomfortable or off-putting for them if they touch the sides of their food bowls.
my cat, Pierre, appears to be moonlighting at your house under a different name. It has to be the same cat - same markings, voice, same propensity to constantly demand food. I'm trying to work out how he does it......
Eric's internal timer always says "food o'clock".
