If you plan on keeping the stock cluster, keep the electronic side of the ABS, throw away just the hydraulic part. If you don't have rear speed sensors, you can repin the connector and put the front signal wires where the rear would be, that way you can have speed and mileage on your cluster, no matter what rear end you running.
Yessir I’m 17 and I bought a hatch s13 and I been working on it I have watched all your vids and try to keep up I’m a big fan and I live your channel but I hope it grows more you deserve more views tbh but keep it up and hopefully you read this it would mean a lot!
Taylor Ray ran G8 GT manifolds on his 6.2 with stock heads and made mid 400s rwhp. Maybe hit him up to see if he still has them. They fit a miata so maybe they will fit a bmw. He did pick up significant power with longtubes.
Forward facing headers are gonna suck for the serpentine belt routing but it's so worth it. I hid a whole muffler in my front bumper so I could dump exhaust put the side of the front bumper.
My car's transmission was made by GM of France, however. With a couple nice modifications. Sequential shifting capability that actually worked. The transmission is Good for 300 HP, so if you are using a GM transmission it should fit to a chevy engine. Same transmission used in a Cadillac DTS or Deville, or full size C or K trucks at the time. Really good solid auto transmission that came with 2nd generation 3 series BMW. 3 speed with overdrive, that was also geared quite well I thought. Especially the overdrive gear I thought was especially good. But I'd imagine a manual would be the best if it can handle the HP.
Headers for that car with the space is a nightmare bhall!!!!! That thing will rip plenty with stock ramhorns!!!! Block huggers would help but you still would have to clearance somewhere.. she looks awesome dude
The biggest deal with the headers won't be power. It's going to back pressure. Back pressure leads to more heat under hood. I'd plan to add vents for heat management or at least help with getting heat out.
I had an unsprung expensive clutch disk in my E36 328is NA build and I would have to spin the tires just to get the car to move from a stop, there was no soft engagement and the clutch disk only lasted 38k miles 😆, next clutch was a heavy duty sprung 6 puck ACT and it was 100x better and less stressful to drive.
When this box inevitably breaks the one you wanna find is a ZF GS5-39dz, it's the e39 530 diesel box and that's the cd009 for us over here. The six speed (GS6-39dz) is also good but the five speed is a tad stronger. My mate has this box in his pro class Pontiac GTO with about 530 wheel hp.
One of the things with a 3 series, you can have "too much" Horsepower if you don't have the M3 suspension upgrade. Even then, the light weight of the 3 series does make a good drifter, one of the best with its more than stiff chassis. I've always thought this engine + trans to be a crazy combination. Yep it is. lol Great point about upgrading oil pan. So many forget how that is important for a drift car. People/Guys just want to do donuts and not think about the consequences and gravity and G-force and what that means for your motor. lol
Man Brian getting upset at these comments . I agree with jimmy and Brian people are experts when it comes to custom work until it's time to do it. I respect these guys hustle .
Any idea on how one would get a vehicle speed sensor pulse from this bmw to the ls ecu that the ls ecu can interpret? Not necessarily for the cluster but so the ls ecu is getting that dignal for the idle and other changes it makes from the vss signal?
I feel like I have seen Jimmy put a million throughout bearings on BMW gearboxes at this point 😅 Now when I am finally able to afford a K swap for Miata I will be well able to through a Bmw gearbox on it!!
Jimmy the engineer, you should know to hold fhe bolt with the allen key bolt and torque the nut down. You held the nut with a reach and impacted the allen bolt damaging the bolt seat and most likely didnt didnt even torque at all.
Derek hit the nail on the head about LS swaps nickel and diming you the entire time. Don't blame you at all for using the factory manifolds. Had exhaust not been the first thing I ordered for mine I'd probably have gone factory too.
The standard manifolds will work fine there are lads that use them for turbo applications and are making 800bhp through them. But there is manifold out there for tight engine bays. Hooker blackheart manifolds.
This really look great, I would do anything to swap my E46 with an LS but to get an LS in South Africa is like chicken teeth and hell off expensive. can't wait to see this swap done. great content.
My suggestion would be to buy a totaled e46 m3, and take the drivetrain. That gets you a 210mm large case lsd diff, stronger axles, and the sweet 420g gearbox. The zf is gonna break, as is the 188 medium case diff and axles. Its usually the axles that break first, but eventually it all will. You can sell the motor and other stuff from the totaled m3 for parts to make most of your money back.
If you dont use the little pin the slave cylinder hits the clutch plate a channel called diff auto uses thus set for an e30 and he didn't upgrade it at first
Any idea on how one would get a vehicle speed sensor pulse from this bmw to the ls ecu that the ls ecu can interpret? Not necessarily for the cluster but so the ls ecu is getting that dignal for the idle and other changes it makes from the vss signal?
I order the same motor mounts lol like 3 or 4 montha ago. I'm still waiting on mine. And for clutch I went with act disc and spec pressure plate from the boys at drift hq which should be good for 600 crank. So if you guys burn through that clutch it's a good opinion
Answer to the question "Are the gearboxes tested with LS power" is that I don't exactly know about the E46 zf trans but the E39 3.0d getrag manual trans is known to hold a lot of power. In Estonia last year my friend got the title of the fastest BMW in Estonia with his E39 (was supposed to be E30 but we couldn't get the right axles on time) M50B28 Stroker with a 80mm turbo and some NOS and it made a little over 1000hp from the wheel and the trans he used was the E39 3.0d trans. If you wonder then on the 1/4 mile he drove 8.82s and the start was terrible. The engine decided to blow up and we realized that we can't get much more out of the M50 and decided to go with the LM7 engine (we used the same adapter plate you bought) and with the same turbo it made about 800hp but the turbo was too small so the intake temps rose way to high and the piston rings decided to collide so it blew up as well. TLDR: If the E46 trans doesn't hold the power then get the E39 3.0d trans (GS5-39DZ) and it's a straight bolt on to the adapter plate you got.
You’re welcome to stay with us in Poland and let’s go drifting ❤️

How do you get the ls ecu to accept a vss vehicle speed sensor reading from the bmw?

Cracked me the hell up
I LMAO!!! This too funny!!
Wow!lmao too funny
Good one TH-cam, good one
Sachs peformance clutches are the best! my clutch was rated at 400NM+ still holding strong after a year of 520NM
You could try C5 or C6 exhaust manifolds. They’re built for tight spaces and have a slightly longer collector
Derrick is now my favorite because he rides a two stroke. Damn I didn’t know y’all rode dirt bikes so much!
2 smoker baby!!!
Hit up nightride in poland jimmy if you want to drift there lol
OAKES GARAGE x NEXT LEVEL DRIFT bois?
That`s what I`ve thought. Maybe Seduced (they invited Noriyaro, Chelsea and Lonestar)
Jimmy just put a Next Level sticker on his Polish E36 this past weekend. We've come full circle bois
The moment brian said we need him to film them wiping their butts i got a charmin toilet paper ad loooooool
I got a bounty ad and a pampers ad lol
I got the same add to. They planned it haha

you need a heavy duty rear end in order to hold that power. M3 or SLG axles.

The real ones know this is a good setup and the factory headers will be fine; stoked to see Brian's e46 rolling smoke.
So stoked for Brian!
On the mention of manifolds, Taylor made plenty of power on his g8 manifolds on hi ls mx5 so plenty of room on the factory manifolds.

the euro 328/m3 (s5d 320z) gearbox did blow out the bottomstock att 1108 wnm in hub dyno. so the small ZF gearbox is great for Big Power.
