these trucks are so simple , they are cheap to fix . my 2007 2500 silverado has 300k miles on it and it still runs great . the transmission is not expensive to fix if you rebuild the one you have, rebuild kit is 350, find a local rebuilder for 350 labor and 150ish for a torque converter
I completely agree I've got a 1988 GMC k1500 that I bought is complete junk and I've basically gone completely through it or had it done Even the transmission and all the brake lines The worst thing and most expensive you would have to have done on any of these vehicles is lower control arm bushings because they have to pull those torsion bars out and have to heat them up and pound on them very very expensive in labor hours
look to the right of the engine bay theres going to be a ground connected to the firewall that connects to the back of the block, clean it as best u can and add another ground (got one at orilleys) just connect to fire wall along with the other connected as well and route to the block. Just make sure u get long enough wire & should fix that issue if possible try n pull trans codes
Just dealt with the same issue on a truck I got from the auction for $100. I would drive for a few miles it would warm up then lose all gears until I shut off and restart. I figure the filter was clogged causing no pressure getting to the pump. I dropped the pan and found quite a decent amount of metal shavings and a little chunk of aluminum more than likely the rotor from the pump. New filter and fluid it drives perfectly fine now… FOR NOW
Yeah I had to get mine rebuilt about 4 years ago a local transmission guy who works for cash did it it was 1400.00 with new flywheel and starter and all labor if you find a right local guy who works for cash you can get a decent deal
Before you swap the trans, clean all the grounds, flush the trans & replace filter, add Lucas trans fix. & have it tuned with hp tuners. & add a 40k tru cool. I bet you’ll revive that transmission
Change the transmission filter and do a fluid flush. 90% positive that will fix your problem if it only pulls when it’s cold. I had the same issue with my 6L80. I did the filter/fluid change and it resolved my problem.
You never flush an old transmission especially if you dont know its history . If the fluid has never been changed or even if its been changed all the debris and metal debris thats collected will be pushed up into all of the crevices and valleys and all of the other tiny parts and it will destroy that transmission. The most you do is a drain and fill, drain and fill untill the fluid is red. Flushes are a gimmick ,a scam that will 100% destroy your transmission. Nowhere in the owners manual or any engineer will tell you to flush a transmission. Never ever EVER flush a transmission!
@@Jeff-sp7bg I never said to flush a perfectly working transmission. He is having a problem with it loosing drive which can indicate a clogged filter causing it to not have adequate fluid pressure. The fluid is pumped constantly throughout the entire transmission from the pan which is filtered. So any metal that is in the transmission has been pumped through it already. If it is a high mileage unit that is in working condition, leave it alone. I’m just referencing from personal experience with the identical problem. My truck is still running and shifting strong since I did this 3 years ago.
Once you get familiar with GMTs, you can fix so many things cheaply. Good support on forums, too. I understand some people don't like them - they're not perfect, but like I said, once you get familiar, you're good to go on a bunch of GMT platforms.
Great find. These are great vehicles and will run a long time if you take care of them. The 6L80 trans can have some problems but this could be a simple issue to fix. Obviously, check your fluid level and condition. I’d pull the pan and see what you’ve got going on in there. Should give you some idea about the condition of the trans. Also this could be a shift solenoid causing the issue which should be a cheap and easy fix. If you can get access to a Tech2 scanner, this is able to talk to the transmission, as the cheaper scanners won’t. I’d highly recommend buying one if you’re going to be keeping this ride, they’re well worth it. Also, I bought mine from Chinacardiags, which is a clone of the real Tech2. $250-300, rather than 1500-2000. Good luck, and keep up the great work and videos brother. I love the Honda content, to go with my 98 EX coupe, and I also have an ‘03 Yukon, so we’ve got similar vehicles. 😁👍
I had a Cadillac CTS first Gen and it did that transmission thing. It drove great but when the fluid got warmed up it wouldn't shift at all. Cheap fix honestly. Just a shift solenoid in the transmission. Labor cost more than the part lol . Okys you grt a transmission flush too so that helpful.
Batteries: i have had success at my local Home Depot Exide brand (which is a top brand and there are not many companies that make batteries). Just in case you need a another one. Run maybe $10-20 less than Autozone.
Whinning could be Torque Converter or shift linkage loose. I cannot remember if that year has AFM. Please disable that crap!! Get someone to tune it out. Drain the transmission fluid and replace filter. I have a transmission here that i took out of my Avalanche for a bad Torque Converter. No shavings at all!! Bought a transmission out of a 6.0 Yukon so it is more rigid! Let me know. Again i am in Columbia if thst helps. I can sell you my old one (just put the TECHM from yours in it) or we can trade what do you think??? I got your back
6l80e that made it 240k miles is pretty rare. Can find a junkyard pullout for cheap if you dont mind doing the labor and risk of it failing again shortly.
Great choice these SUVs are awesome. We have 2008 Cadillac Escalade and a 2015 Tahoe and owned them for about two years now and only put $1000 into both of them. not bad in my opinion
Good luck brotha 🙏🏼 like everyone said check the grounds before you buy or rebuild a tranny! Could be a couple bucks to fix instead of a couple thousand. Best of luck God bless

My man, I appreciate the quick response. I know you're a man of God. God's blessings and Grace be upon you and your family. Keep on fighting the good fight. 😃🙏🏽

@AGPROD. it definitely is problem is when it comes apart it shoots fine metal throughout the tranny that's why it moves when it's cold because the filter is clear once it warms up the filter is plugged with the metal. only way to clean it all is fully disassemble it
I literally did this on my dads 2011 silverado. There was no screen in the hole and the screen that came with the new sensor wouldn't even fit in the hole.
