Cal Thomas told an anecdote of George H. W. Bush fumbling a Biblical citation. Instead of saying his favorite verse was John 3:16, he said John 16:3. Although I'm certain that Bush did not know the verse, the verse is none-the-less insightful to this conversation: "And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me."
The worse thing that can happen to America is to change the Constitution to either revise or eliminate the First Amendment guaranteeing freedom of religion and forbidding the government from upholding and religion or religious law. Mike Huckabee has publicly announced that he is fully in favor of amending the Amendment. He wants Congress to make and enforce religious laws. That would result in widespread persecution right here in free America.

Would you have felt good about it if he had talked about JFK's adultery, then quoted Trump? They weren't lifting JFK up as a paragon; these were incidental remarks having to do with church and state issues.
Cal Thomas is wonderful in many ways. BUT...I have to say that after the "2Corinthians" comment by President Trump (then campaigner Trump), I heard 3 well known radio preachers on Bott Radio say "two Corinthians" or "two Timothy" or "two Samuel, Kings, Chronicles, John, Peter". This is not ignorance. Think of the Matt Lauer replacement pronouncing on the air "Alzheimers" as "Al"s heimers." Interesting that today's colum (January 4, 2018) praises all of President Trump's staggering-really staggering- accomplishments. NOT TO MENTION perhaps the most stunning element of his presidency especially following Obama-his defense and praise for the Christian religion. Merry Christmas and God Bless America is the "new" norm. HOPE is the new norm instead of the "get used to it" from the Muslim mayor of London or Obama. Praise the Lord!
I never understood why people saying "Two Corinthians" is an error or sign of ignorance. This is exactly how they say in the UK, including at All Souls Church, Langham Place ... home of the late, great John Stott. I always liked Cal Thomas in the past; however, after watching this video I realize he is not as informed or insightful as I thought. I relate to Al Mohler's frustration in this video dialogue because Cal Thomas was obviously overwhelmed and out of his league arguing with Al Mohler.. Perhaps Cal was having a bad day.
Scottish and Welsh pastors say it regularly, its different but not wrong. That said, I doubt Trump has read the Bible in his life, and I do not believe he is a Christian. That doesn't mean I think he's a monster or prohibited from being President and I think in a more clear moment he would agree.
