This is my favorite Disney show of all time. None of the others can beat the story and the character development that went into this. I watched it again a couple of years ago and enjoyed it just as much, maybe even more so, as when I was a kid watching it in the 90s. There's so much mythology and Shakespearean lore woven into it so skillfully, and every character is so fleshed out. I will always recommend this show to anyone that hasn't seen it, and I hope Disney can make another awesome series like it in the future.
Season 2 still looks pretty amazing. I can cut them some slack seeing as they made a lot more episodes of this than any of the other Disney Afternoon shows.
The 2nd season was created in a rush, as far as I know. For this season Disney gave the creators the same amount of time as for the 1st one. And there was 52 episodes, not 13 so the quality was influenced inevitably.
@@fireriffs Yeah.... Though it's a shame modern cartoons don't look like this.... I seriously can't watch Western Cartoons.... They look so ugly and flat....
We loved this show at my school, my HIGH SCHOOL! This show had rather mature and at times complex story arcs. They did storytelling in long arcs where as most shows were 22 minutes in a bow and no surprise that fans of this show embraced anime when it crossed the pond. The last season was definitely phoning it in and there was a whiff of trying to cash in on a toy line before the gravy train derailed, but this is a series that stands up to re-watching even as the original audience has grown up.
Adamant Forge The last season lost much of the creative force behind the first two. Greg Wiseman was only a story consultant, and they hardly used him. They pretty much ignored much of what he’d set up in “The Journey” and did their own thing. It is inferior to what came before in every way, in animation, plotting, sophistication, character arcs, everything.
This is my favorite tv show ever. I´m beyond happy a lot of people are discovering (or re-discovering) it on Disney+. I really hope there´s a revival because Gargoyles´creator Greg Weisman has a lot of plans for the series #KeepBingingGargoyles
@@Chad_Eldridge The Xanatos Gambit is basic a plan that no mether the result you win, no mether if you win or lose, you end winning in some way, Basic if you defeat the Hero you win, but even if the hero stop you, you also win in another way, no matter the result you end winning something. like when Xanatos break the Pact out of prison, The PAct fail to defeat the Gargoyles, but Xanatos was able to test a lot of his new technology and in the end, he releases Fox from prison legally. in a resume is a plan that no matter the outcome you win
@@Chad_Eldridge Xanatos Speed Chess is basic a Counter Measure, Xanatos believe that no plan is perfect, is impossible to control every single detail in the world, so he is very good in creat new moves/plays quick, is basically the ability to salvage an old plan and make a new one. I think it would he hard to be a continuation of the comics, because fewer people have seen them. I think they'd more have to adapt important parts from the comics into the show. Or at least do a long first episode where they get everyone up to speed.
With all the Trekkie actors in this show, my sister and I always joke that Gargoyles was just a long, elaborate Holodeck simulation they were all doing together.
So glad you went into more detail of Gargoyles. This was a huge favorite of mine when I was a kid and recently rewatched the first two seasons and they for sure hold up.
This came out when I was 9. This and batman was my obsession. I would really be cool with a reboot of this. Disney has been doing really well with their shows lately.
I remember looking forward to new episodes everyday after school in 97-98, and this is one of the few cartoons my dad appreciated enough to record from TV to watch. Such a good show! It might as well be a Shakespeare introduction course.
First two seasons, amazing, the gold standard of what a show for kids and adults can be. I love the use of shakespeare, mythology, and drama. Favorite episodes: the one with Puck, Fox turning into the monster, and the ones about Macbeth and Demona's past. Macbeth is a prime example of how you write I think, a great anti-hero. I mean you look at the episode King Arthur comes to New York to find excalibur and after fighting Macbeth, Arthur still treats him as the noble king he once was.

It was moved to ABC as a Saturday morning cartoon under different writers and broadcast standards(aimed at younger kids). Goliath Chronicles wasn't horrible but it wasn't as good and memorable as the first 2 seasons shown on weekday afternoons.
It's funny how season 3 really is okay for a cartoon show, but because it's from a series with a phenomenal 1st and 2nd season, it's considered pretty bad.

I love this show. See Disney? You CAN do something new and creative in response to another IP without having to buy them out and ruin the IP you bought.
I just watched all three seasons because I never got to finish it as a child. And oh my god I loved it, will always stand as one if my favorite childhood shows, I kind of hope they get a movie or something in the future
This was my favorite show as a child. Even to the point that my mother let me name my baby sister Alisa after the detective. ( Also, I was six and didn't realize the character is spelled Elisa.)
I keep hearing about this show from time-to-time, I was born on 2000 so I couldn't of experienced what was great in the 90s, all I know it was over the top. But this show was pretty vague, until I decided to watch it and I got hooked, and I'm still watching it.
This was one of my upmost favourite shows to come on Saturday mornings when I was w kid and when I found I could watch it online years later it still is
Greg Weisman who worked on this show went on to develop Young Justice, a really awesome show that focuses on the DC comics sidekicks, years later on. Surprisingly, Weisman was able to get a lot of the voice actors from Gargoyles to come back and voice a few awesome characters, especially the villains, in Young Justice. My favorites include Keith David (Goliath in Gargoyles) returning as Mongul; Thom Adcox (Lexington in Gargoyles) returning as Klarion; and Marina Sirtis (Demona in Gargoyles) as Queen Bee.
I adored this show in the 90s and it absolutely stands up to being rewatched in adulthood. Some episodes that were meh in my teens hit in a whole new way in my 30s. This show deserves every bit of the love it continues to receive.
Same. Just when I had started to move on from afternoon/Saturday morning cartoons, along came this classic gem. I thought I was getting "too old" for Saturday morning cartoons but I discovered this show and Exo-Squad (and Anime films being released on VHS, like Akira) and that carried me through the middle of the 90's.
I loved the show. It aired when I was an early teenager, just the right time to watch it. Watching this video, I realize that the animation and the art style have aged really well. As much as new seasons would be awesome, season 3, and all the recent remakes of 90's stuff make me think that it is best to leave this show in Nostlagia Land.
Reboot On April 2, 2015, a rumor surfaced that Disney would be rebooting the series for a 2018 premiere on Disney XD. The report was debunked as an April Fools' prank. Instead, Darkwing Duck returned as a comic book published by Joe Books, which was released on April 27, 2016. A Darkwing Duck reboot is in development for Disney+. Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg will executive produce the project via Point Grey Pictures. Tad Stones revealed that he is involved in the reboot series as a creative consultant.
...yeah I was born when this came out. The only episodes that I saw were most likely Season 3 when I went too my mates as I didn't pay-TV but out of all the old Disney shows this is something that I do want to have a look at.
Hi, I live in Mexico, and my brother and I enjoyed Gargoyles so much because all the references to Medieval Myths and Legends. We look forward to seeing the series again next year through Disney +. Very good memories indeed.
My brother was Rob's same age when the show came on and he didn't deny watching it. He liked intelligent shows, hell, he even watched the Gummi Bears and said it was more intelligent than many cartoons on at that time. He watched Gargoyles more than I did and he followed the storylines as they appeared, just as you mentioned. I watched some, but he certainly told me about the episodes I didn't see. He was the first to notice that there were a lot of Trek stars (even Colm Meany and Kate Mulgrew) on the show. And, he agreed that they used those talents in an intelligent way. Even tho, he was a teenager and didn't care for the kind of thing, he still liked how well they had Goliath and Elisa dance around each other. He liked how Odin and Puck were the same person, but you didn't know that until later. Even the fact that MacBeth was a real person. Not forgeting character interaction between Demona and Angela. The fact that Goliath still sorta cared for Demona, but has no choice but to be the protagonist to her antagonist (while still having budding feelings for Elisa). And how Angela is in the middle of that, later. Anyway, if by the third season, you mean the Goliath Chronicles, I didn't watch it because the story had already started getting complicated with the stories of the past, like the appearance of MacBeth, the existence of Avalon, and such. But, my brother was going to continue to watch it since he was already a big fan. Until he saw that it had changed completely - and got worse because of it. In the previous season finale, Elisa had kissed Goliath as he was turning to stone, causing him to freeze in a surprised pose. It was an awesome ending to the season making you want to see the season premiere. For somebody he who had (and still has) no interest in romance and relationships, even he was disappointed by that the fact that It Was Never Mentioned, Again. Even I thought that didn't make sense. He said somebody else took over the show and changed it to their way. Anyway, after a few episodes my brother stopped watching it because of the changes. But, he to this day, he still says that Gargoyles was an excellent addition to Disney Afternoon and that he was glad to watch it every week (I think it was only on Fridays). Then he gladly told us all about it afterward - if he didn't manage to get me to watch it with him. If he did, he would update me on anything I missed before the episode was over. We do love to talk, after all!
Didn't watch this show too much, but had some toys, but what little I did see, I never forgot. There's just something about it... it was really damn cool and I like all the Star Trek TNG peeps in it! :D
Fun tidbit: Greg Weisman, the creator of Gargoyles, actually has a continuation of the series in comic form. It gets even more deep and dark, but you need to keep in mind that all of the tv episodes after S3E1 are not canon.
Incredible show. You hit it right on the head: the continuity and connections this show makes are elite. Puck being revealed as Owen Burnett in one of the final episodes, the history between Demona and Macbeth and how Demona spent the 1,000 years that the Manhattan Clan was frozen in stone... the list goes on. In my opinion, Disney's greatest animated series. #Jalapena

Yes me too he’s one of my favorites
Keith Davis..... most BADASS voice ever!!
Wow, what coincidental timing! I just started re-watching this series last night because it's one of my favourites from that era of Disney.
Same. I just finished season 1 last week.
It’s always funny to see how the quality in animation and art diminished as the series went along..... season 1 is beautiful to look at
Season 2 still looks pretty amazing. I can cut them some slack seeing as they made a lot more episodes of this than any of the other Disney Afternoon shows.
@@fireriffs and you still had the occasional episode with very fluid and dynamic animation as well.
@@alejandromolinac Well, at least anime still exists.
@@MrCUTigerB Which never made sense to me because he's one of the shows creators.
my family has owned a vhs complete collection of Gargoyles my entire life, but i’ve never had the urge to watch this show until this video. Thank you!
Oml I miss vhs lol
This is my favorite tv show ever. I´m beyond happy a lot of people are discovering (or re-discovering) it on Disney+. I really hope there´s a revival because Gargoyles´creator Greg Weisman has a lot of plans for the series #KeepBingingGargoyles
Xanatos was such a great Villain that he give name to two big Tv Tropes, the "Xanatos Gambit" and the "Xanatos Speed Chess"

Honestly, if Gargoyles came back as it's own Netflix show I'd be down for that 100%
And as a continuation from the comics. And from the animation studio behind Castlevania
I think it would he hard to be a continuation of the comics, because fewer people have seen them. I think they'd more have to adapt important parts from the comics into the show. Or at least do a long first episode where they get everyone up to speed.
I'd be all for it. America needs good animated series again last great one was still avatar
With all the Trekkie actors in this show, my sister and I always joke that Gargoyles was just a long, elaborate Holodeck simulation they were all doing together.
OMG YESSSSS
That would be an awesome Easter egg for Star Trek but I don't think Disney and Paramount would cooperate
They were just playing DnD.
I binged watched this show on Disney Plus and it was great, This show was a head of it's time and I'm glad I watched it.
Those trumpets in the intro is absolutely perfect.
From the bottom of my heart, thanks for defending season 3.

I can easily admit Demona was one of my biggest childhood crushes.
But still she is a murderhobo.
Eliza maza and demona were my crush too.

Favorite show. Of all times.
Gargoyles was my show when I was a kid. I stayed up to watch it late at night because I wasn't able to when it was on earlier in the day. It was so good. Seeing Gargoyles and Darkwing Duck on Disney Plus just took me back to my early childhood like nothing has before.
Loved this show as a kid! Great story and kick ass intro music. I need to watch it again.
I've been denied _everything!_ Even my *revenge!*
Keith David's Goliath is f'ing incredible.
One thousand years ago, superstition and the sword ruled.
It was a time of darkness. It was a world of fear.
It was the age of gargoyles.
Stone by day, warriors by night, we were betrayed by the humans we had sworn to protect, frozen in stone by a magic spell for a thousand years.
Now, here in Manhattan, the spell is broken, and we live again!
We are defenders of the night!
We are GARGOYLES!
Go to Mississippi, superstition and and "the sword" still rules down there.
Gargoyles was a gem growing up in the 90s.
funny i dont remember much of season 3.
Ash Parth The only worthwhile bit of Season 3 was Lexington bonding with baby Alexander. But the comics handled the 3rd season better.
Same. Literally all I remember of season 3 is the episode where the clones were dying

To me this is Disney's best adult but still kidish show EVER!!!
You're dead if you aim only for kids. Adults are only kids grown up, anyway.

The best, straight up
Yeah, and their version of Batman/TMNT style.
Hell yes. This was the absolute best show in the 90s. Got all my nieces and nephews watching it now.
I love this show. See Disney? You CAN do something new and creative in response to another IP without having to buy them out and ruin the IP you bought.
This was one of the many things that made the 90s cool. Could easily fit in this day and age, too.
I really need to watch this show. I missed it when it came out and never came around to watching it since.
Funny, I was literally thinking about this show and wrote a note reminded myself towatch it again and then doug uploads this a few seconds after .
One of my favorite show growing up
One of my favorite tv shows of all time!
I keep hearing about this show from time-to-time, I was born on 2000 so I couldn't of experienced what was great in the 90s, all I know it was over the top. But this show was pretty vague, until I decided to watch it and I got hooked, and I'm still watching it.
I love gargoyles. * cry * FLY TO YOUR GARGOYLES! I love this show so much...
This was one of my upmost favourite shows to come on Saturday mornings when I was w kid and when I found I could watch it online years later it still is
I really used to enjoy this. I’ll have to rewatch it.
2:48 that shot is incredible.
Kingdom Hearts NEEDS a Gargoyles World. Get on it, Disney/Square!
Maybe wait a century. For Kingdom Hearts 4
OMG, YES!!! I would love to team up with Goliath.
Same with other Disney Afternoon characters like Wildwing, Darkwing Duck, etc.
Really enjoying rewatching this on Disney Plus right now
This will forever be a top tier cartoon
I adored this show in the 90s and it absolutely stands up to being rewatched in adulthood. Some episodes that were meh in my teens hit in a whole new way in my 30s. This show deserves every bit of the love it continues to receive.
This came out 2 years before I graduated high school and I loved it.
I've actually been re-watching this show on Disney+. Still one of my all time favorites.
This is such an underrated series! Thank you sooo much for giving it attention!
Hell yea gargoyles
I got all the seasons they have released on dvd. Love the series. I'm glad I'm seeing more content creators talking more about it recently.
How does this not have a reboot?! Come on Disney
Reboot
On April 2, 2015, a rumor surfaced that Disney would be rebooting the series for a 2018 premiere on Disney XD.
Tad Stones revealed that he is involved in the reboot series as a creative consultant.
a classic must watch for all lovers of animation
Just announce Gargoyles live action on Disney+
But really I love this show and I've started to rewatch it.
That „I mean, that’s gotta be better than what they’re returning to now“ made me laugh.
I loved the Gargoyles! Maybe I should rewatch it... again.
...yeah I was born when this came out. The only episodes that I saw were most likely Season 3 when I went too my mates as I didn't pay-TV but out of all the old Disney shows this is something that I do want to have a look at.

absolutely loved it as a kid and as an adult
The plot of the show reminds me a lot like Highlander.
Didn't watch this show too much, but had some toys, but what little I did see, I never forgot. There's just something about it... it was really damn cool and I like all the Star Trek TNG peeps in it! :D
What I like of this video besides is about Gargoyles is that jab at the "live action" The Lion King at the end
Fun tidbit: Greg Weisman, the creator of Gargoyles, actually has a continuation of the series in comic form. It gets even more deep and dark, but you need to keep in mind that all of the tv episodes after S3E1 are not canon.
I’ve fallen in love with this series and I have been binge watching it on Disney plus UGHHH such a slept on
Incredible show. #Jalapena
Wonderful video!! Thank you for drawing attention to this beautiful series.
