Really did like Gargoyles, and was so out of character for Disney I think that made me like it more. Preordered Disney+ for the kids, but with the addition of Gargoyles and Star Wars it is starting to be something I will like more than them...
ive been watching it on disney+ these past couple weeks and its so freaking good, genuinely my favorite story driven cartoon like ever at this point. the family dynamic between the main six gargoyles is really cute, plus as someone whos been obsessed with magic and folklore and monsters ever since i was a little kid its always cool to see something familiar be added to the story and get to be like “hey i know about that!!”. i especially love the introductions to multiple different cultures and the life lessons taught during the “avalon world tour” arc as well as how gargoyles can look insanely different based on where in the world they came from. i also love the heavy themes of trauma and trust within season 1 + first half or so of season 2. theyve all been through terrifying changes to their lives and it just feels easier to pin the cause onto humans, even if they fully know that those responsible for their pain have been gone just as long as they have, but until season 2 episode 36 as far as most of the main 6 is concerned theyre the only gargoyles left, and just like back then they are alone surrounded by a society that fears them as long as they even know of their existence. demona even uses this to her advantage to manipulate brooklyn into her point of view in the season 1 episode temptation, all while having damn near the same issues as them. but time goes on, things change, people change, magical creatures change. they adapt to the new generation and rebuild their life, brooklyn broadway and lexington overcome their grudges from that trio of episodes in season 1 and all of them learn from their struggles together as a family. after the s2 episode where goliath learns about integrity, and taking responsibility for your actions even if you didnt know they were wrong, i thought they may have been setting up a redemption arc for demona. i have a lot of thoughts about her, but long story short the way i see it her inability to admit her mistakes, no matter how fargone in the past they are, is the one thing holding her back from healing and becoming a better,, person? but despite this, i only have about 7 episodes left to watch in season 2 so the chance of this is slimming quickly. my god wow that was a lot im so sorry lol but tl;dr i read way deeper into childrens shows than necessary but regardless of that gargoyles is super good and i love it p.s. brooklyn is the best character
Thank you for not only another great episode but a wonderful birthday present! I strongly remember that Gargoyle's toy commercial and even have that Xanatos (somewhere) and I also remeber that lunch box (I didn't had it but I saw it a million times at a store). Thanks.
I am currently revisiting this cartoon on Disney+ and I'm loving this cartoon. I never realized that there were so many people from Star Trek The Next Generation who voiced characters on this cartoon.
Same here.I still go back and watch the old episodes whenever I feel like it and have the time to do it. Like you said, the show still holds up! I always say that that should be a goal for anyone who makes(or will make in the future)a TV show, movie, book, comic book and so on-that it should hold up years into the future. Obviously, anything current and from the present will eventually become the past because time never stops moving and marching forward and by setting itself in the then-present,1994,I guess that's really the only way that the show dates itself. But other than that, for a show that debuted 27 years ago(and I'm guessing actual work and production on the show probably started in 1993 or even 1992,considering how much hard work it is to do animation and how long it takes to do animation),the show still holds up really well and doesn't feel dated at all. Hard to believe it was 27 years ago! Man! I feel old! Ha! Ha!
How many shows can say that the sequel comics ARE canon, while the actual third season aired on TV isn't really canonical. I gotta go find those comics now . . .
Loved Brooklyn but hated the Timedancer idea. It sounded too much like Quantum Leap. That, and as a rabid Brooklyn fan girl, I didn’t want to see him marry someone other than my own Mary Sue character.
Disney's best cartoon series, bar none. Fantastic theme song too. Also well played Dan, in completely ignoring "Season 3", aside from a brief name drop!
There was a lot of influence from Batman on Gargoyles. It was as dark as you could possibly make a children 's cartoon and it was also very mature, too, for it's intended audience.I'm sure some of the content and themes went right over the heads of many of the younger viewers. A great animated series and it was ahead of it's time!
I'm always going to love that Brent Spiner voiced Puck. Because of course Lore is going to love screwing around with the crew of the Star Trek Enterprise.
I wasn't really allowed to watch gargoyles for two reasons: first cause I had karate practice at the time it was on and second my mom thought they look like demons and didn't want me to watch it! (I would catch a couple of episodes though lol)
Ironic the point of the show was to not judge a book by its cover, and the humans in the show feared the gargoyles simply because they looked like monsters Ah what a jab to reality this show.
I loved Gargoyles! Awesome animation and concept, great characters and just so different than anything else tv had to offer back then! I often ask others in my generation whether they remember Gargoyles, but was always hard-pressed to find fellow fans! Love seeing this appreciation here, very cool!
Gargoyles remains one of Disney's most underrated properties. I remember loving this show as a kid and it being so intriguing that my mom would actually watch it with me. The visuals were astounding and the voice acting was superb. BRING IT BACK!

What if it turns out that all this money that you've spent moving my castle, stone by stone and statue by statue, from the Scottish countryside to the top of this tower in Manhattan is wasted? What exactly do you plan to do about it?"
That would have sucked, wouldn’t it? I can hear Owen now: “It would appear, sir, that you have wasted a buttload of money on this project.”
@@veelalynne Xanatos: "Oh, I don't know about that, Owen. I now have the most impressive bespoke skyscraper in the world. The publicity from this little venture has already paid for itself. And best of all, the Illuminati now think I'm a fool who throws away his money on vanity projects. Which means they'll underestimate me. All in all, I'd say I still have the edge."
@@SchrodingersTransCat I heard that in his voice. Bravo!
This show is my childhood. I would watch it all of the time and own the whole season on disc. I Love It So Much
"But you didn't talk about the Goliath Chron..."
"Shhh....nobody talks about that"
Season 3. Not canon, as per Greg Weisman ;)
@@snukastyle That's the joke
This was one of the best toy lines. It looked like the show and that was a huge deal. So often toy lines werent reflective of the character models and looked nothing like the show, but these were the spitting images so to speak. Such a great show and toy line.
"these were the spitting images"
*me squinting hard not to see Brooklyn as a toucan*
Thank you guys for making this video, Gargoyles is my all time favourite show, gone but not forgotten. :)
I cannot express how much I loved this show when I was a kid and I still love it today. I really wish Disney would pick up this hidden gem again and do something with it (no live action film please XD).
12+ miznits of Gargoyles history... equals entertaining! Thanks Toy Galaxy!
You can't have more than one Mizzet, he's legendary... mythicspoiler.com/grn/cards/nivmizzetparun.html
Sadly, I don't think there will never be another series like Gargoyles. It's a strange, different world now, much like the world the gargoyles awaken to after their curse was lifted.
The air of SJWs and Political Correctness certainly stifles creativity....
We had creative shows like Gravity Falls and Over the Garden Wall. People will just hate modern cartoons even when there's been good stuff.
We need a gargoyle movie who agrees with me
Heck yes
Everybody who’s seen Gargoyles knows this needs to happen. Preferably before we ALL turn to stone
There is a Gargoyles out, it's called Gargoyles the Movie: The Heroes Awaken
@@user-ps4lx8qq2c I know, it came out in the 90s. I want them (Disney) to do a live action movie On the cartoon Disney’s gargoyles.
@@the4thtribe709 Don't think Disney would make a good movie of Gargoyles now, let alone a live action one. Also the way you worded your comment it sounded like you missed the part about the movie that was made.
Laser disk!? 😱 Aint heard those words together in years.
Really did like Gargoyles, and was so out of character for Disney I think that made me like it more. Preordered Disney+ for the kids, but with the addition of Gargoyles and Star Wars it is starting to be something I will like more than them...
God, I loved Gargoyles! The writing, the plots, the twists, the character development, and the voice acting was all Extraordinary!
I LOVED the art style and the story was great too.
Well, now I know why Star Wars Rebels was so good.
Precisely! He named plenty of good shows he was involved in.
Same for spectacular spider man
Wow now I must to watch Star Wars Rebels.
@@Lasershadow It's no where near as good as Gargoyles or Star Wars The Clone Wars, but it's still good.
I'm just going to like the video before I even watch it...cause it's Toy Galaxy and Gargoyles!
all i remember about the show was "jalapenos!!"
If I remember right that "Jalapenos!!" was something Keith David would say and the show writers put it into the show.
Demona was one of my childhood crushes.
I was love with her daughter Angela.
I blame my love of red heads on Demona and Jessica Rabbit
Gargoyles was absolutely formative for me as a kid. There will definitely be a rewatch happening once Disney+ is up.
ive been watching it on disney+ these past couple weeks and its so freaking good, genuinely my favorite story driven cartoon like ever at this point. the family dynamic between the main six gargoyles is really cute, plus as someone whos been obsessed with magic and folklore and monsters ever since i was a little kid its always cool to see something familiar be added to the story and get to be like “hey i know about that!!”. i especially love the introductions to multiple different cultures and the life lessons taught during the “avalon world tour” arc as well as how gargoyles can look insanely different based on where in the world they came from. i also love the heavy themes of trauma and trust within season 1 + first half or so of season 2. theyve all been through terrifying changes to their lives and it just feels easier to pin the cause onto humans, even if they fully know that those responsible for their pain have been gone just as long as they have, but until season 2 episode 36 as far as most of the main 6 is concerned theyre the only gargoyles left, and just like back then they are alone surrounded by a society that fears them as long as they even know of their existence. demona even uses this to her advantage to manipulate brooklyn into her point of view in the season 1 episode temptation, all while having damn near the same issues as them. but time goes on, things change, people change, magical creatures change. they adapt to the new generation and rebuild their life, brooklyn broadway and lexington overcome their grudges from that trio of episodes in season 1 and all of them learn from their struggles together as a family. after the s2 episode where goliath learns about integrity, and taking responsibility for your actions even if you didnt know they were wrong, i thought they may have been setting up a redemption arc for demona. i have a lot of thoughts about her, but long story short the way i see it her inability to admit her mistakes, no matter how fargone in the past they are, is the one thing holding her back from healing and becoming a better,, person? but despite this, i only have about 7 episodes left to watch in season 2 so the chance of this is slimming quickly.
my god wow that was a lot im so sorry lol but tl;dr i read way deeper into childrens shows than necessary but regardless of that gargoyles is super good and i love it
p.s. brooklyn is the best character
I only read Shakespeare because of Gargoyles. I would love an official third season.
Thank you for not only another great episode but a wonderful birthday present!
I strongly remember that Gargoyle's toy commercial and even have that Xanatos (somewhere) and I also remeber that lunch box (I didn't had it but I saw it a million times at a store).
Thanks.
You left out Avery Brooks! My favorite Star Trek Captain is marginalized once again!
Man, the level of effort that you put into this speaks for itself. Awesome job Sir.
Gargoyles and Nightmare Before Christmas were the two shows which influenced my decision to go to art school
Did you graduate from art school
@@locolopez75 unfortunately no.
Id love to see that Dark Art
Awesome show. One of the best. Can still hear the theme song and Keith David's voice
I loved this show!!!! A great part of my youth!!!!!!🔥👍🏿🔥
I am currently revisiting this cartoon on Disney+ and I'm loving this cartoon. I never realized that there were so many people from Star Trek The Next Generation who voiced characters on this cartoon.
Instead of rebooting this, something that deserves it, they are rebooting Robin Hood...again.. Disney is just stupid.
Yes, but odds are that if they reboot it they'll screw it up (remember that so-called third season, and beware).
Let me guess...they are rebooting Robin Hood with a real CGI fox?
My wife and I watch this before bed it's still one of our favorite series to re-watch.
Interesting fact about the "movie". It actually contains a couple of scenes (a few second here and there) that weren't in the series.
Finally! One of the greatest shows. Loved hearing the voices of some Trek faves. So unassumingly Disney in many ways.
I love the Gargoyles one of my favorites 90s cartoons.
Las Gargolas
I still watch an episode every once an awhile. It still holds up. And I love the main characters voice.
Man! I feel old! Ha! Ha!
The scariest of the disney afternoon programming :-D
And on the 25th anniversary of it first airing. From a fan to a fan. Thank you.
How many shows can say that the sequel comics ARE canon, while the actual third season aired on TV isn't really canonical.
I gotta go find those comics now . . .
They are expensive good luck
Loved watching this as a kid in the 90's we were blessed with so many great shows. Im glad i was born when i was so i could enjoy them all when i did.
Brooklyn is still my favorite ...I really want to see The Timedancer Series come to screen :)
Phoenix Gate returned.
Loved Brooklyn but hated the Timedancer idea. It sounded too much like Quantum Leap. That, and as a rabid Brooklyn fan girl, I didn’t want to see him marry someone other than my own Mary Sue character.
DUDE.... I have not thought about this since i saw it when i was a wee boy. Man i gotta download it.
Gargoyles is one of the reasons I'm looking forward to Disney+ next month.
Disney's best cartoon series, bar none. Fantastic theme song too. Also well played Dan, in completely ignoring "Season 3", aside from a brief name drop!
It's basically kind of an attempt to be more Batman than Batman by making the show about a family of Man-Bats.
Another outstanding video essay! Thank you for covering such an indelible animated series!
Best animated show of the 90's
I'm always going to love that Brent Spiner voiced Puck. Because of course Lore is going to love screwing around with the crew of the Star Trek Enterprise.
Wait this isn't a mini doc on the history of Gothic architecture?
Loved this show when I was a lad. Big love from South Africa gents! Keep up the epic work!
I wasn't really allowed to watch gargoyles for two reasons: first cause I had karate practice at the time it was on and second my mom thought they look like demons and didn't want me to watch it!
(I would catch a couple of episodes though lol)
I would pray for your childhood, but that seems to be where it went wrong in the first place.
Ironic the point of the show was to not judge a book by its cover, and the humans in the show feared the gargoyles simply because they looked like monsters
Ah what a jab to reality this show.
God I loved this series when it came out in the 90's. Thank you very much for the video!
can't leave out young justice.
I loved Gargoyles! Awesome animation and concept, great characters and just so different than anything else tv had to offer back then! I often ask others in my generation whether they remember Gargoyles, but was always hard-pressed to find fellow fans! Love seeing this appreciation here, very cool!
damn, all they needed was Patrick Stewart and they'd have the full cast of TNG
Some of my favourite DVD purchases was buying Gargoyles seasons 1 & 2. Excellent series. I was in my 20's when it started and I loved it.
God I miss gargoyles. I might get Disney plus just to re-watch that series. Damn it Disney. You're going to get my money
Gargoyles remains one of Disney's most underrated properties. I remember loving this show as a kid and it being so intriguing that my mom would actually watch it with me. The visuals were astounding and the voice acting was superb. BRING IT BACK!
Correction Gargoyles only ran 2 seasons. The Goliath Chronicles doesn't count, except for the first episode.
@@____________838 season 3 aka The Goliath Chronicles was really bad except for the first episode. The canon comic continuation even jumps off from that episode and ignores the rest of the season.
This one show I missed and need to see in full, so cool, always loved the commercials!!!!!
I love how you indirectly classified The Goliath Chronicles as not canon.
Don't get me wrong. While there are some interesting concepts, The Goliath Chronicles sucks.
I remember loving the idea of the clones...and then there was Delilah...the perfect blend of the two women Goliath loved. Where, oh where were they gonna go with that one, I thought as I waited for season three with bated breath. Season three finally arrives and they kill her off along with the rest of the clones in the laziest, grossest way imaginable. Screw you, Goliath Chronicles. Screw you.
I can't remember all the names of those involved. All I know is that this is a masterpiece and is timeless. It's 2022, and my little kids and I are watching it on TH-cam and it keeps them occupied enough for me to do chores undisturbed. It's our go to cartoon when we can't agree on what else to watch.
What kind of person would marry a Gargoyle? A Garboy! :D
Sean Cwilich Garboyle*
I loved this show as a kid, absolutely spell bound by it for sure.
Why is this guy so dam hot dam. I'm just trying to watch the gargoyles history video 😂
Yeah so excited for this as you can tell by my Goliath avi, kind of a Gargoyles fan and TNG so I really loved this show!
Gargoyles and Darkwing Duck alone justify my subscription to Disney +
Just wanted to say I really enjoy the channel. You and the team do a fantastic job. Thank you You Galaxy
