Not to discount anyone else in the band, but there is something that is just musically magical between Flea and John. Here you can see it in the way they look at one another and follow one another in the into and into Californication. This was a truly honest musical moment.
I think the dynamic between the two was always something which made the band uniquely special.
Something that was missing with Josh. No hate they were just missing that something special.
Chad Smith is in it formula too, if you have heard them in live you know what i’m talking about

john has been playing that same brown/tan beat up original fender strat live for probaly 2 decades!! just like kirk hammet always plays that fender with what looks like the original hills have eyes graphic on it live.

Still the greatest no matter what
I was never a hardcore fan of the Chili Peppers but I respect what they've done. This is the beauty of doing what you love to do. It's work, but it's not at the same time. As long as people want to show up to your shows, buy your albums, ect, you're still doing well. I say retirement should only be thought about if your performances go down the shitter. Leave before you put a stain on your legacy. Axyl Rose and Vince Neil need to get that memo. Axyl sounds terrible. Vince can't keep up but at least he has Tommy and Nicky pulling his weight with Mick still crushing his guitar skills. Mick's the one with the worse health and he still shows up and can sell his performance. He wanted to retire in 2004 due to his severe arthritic back pain but he is still doing well.
