So if Jason activates Rowan first, then holds priority and casts Covenant everything would have worked out
This is the best way to use Will and Rowan. We didn't realize this until days later. Haha...
@@KingdomsTV But then Jason would have NOT gained any reduction as upon the moment activation Jason would have not had any life loss. This is why Rowan isn't considered to be that great at cEDH and is probably better played with cards that incrementally cause loss of life.
I think it checks on resolution, not on activating the ability?@@timon6427
@timon6427 the reduction is based on life lost on resolution of the ability not the activation, that's why you need to hold.priority so that if she gets removed in response to the spell thenactivation is still on the stack

That's the beauty of playing Rowan, either you almost kill yourself but kills everyone or you just die.

She’s pretty fun. The dragon storm version looks sweet too
This is a great showcase of why I'm gonna proxy a Rowan deck first. She's fun, but so easy to get out of control and even easier to destroy that it doesnt look fun for most tables

Though last time I played a commander like that (Isshin) I got systematically destroyed lol, boots? Gone. Commander? Gone.

Rowan’s ability still goes on the stack and works even if you kill her in response to activation

Watching games like this reinforces my decision to veer away from leaning on my commander so heavily. Not a knock against the games, more just a case of having the commander function as a cog in the machine of my decks as opposed to the central cog.
It definately can be a weakness, but its one of the more fun parts about most decks is leaning into the commanders forte. GIve and take depening on what you are looking for out of a game. :)
@@KingdomsTV Oh I agree. I guess in my pods, I've seen too many instances of peoples' decks crumbling to dust the minute their commander gets taken out a few times.

does rowan see the life you lost before activating?
Yes. The best way to activate her is like someone else mentioned in the comments. Activate her and with her ability on the stack pay life. That way even if she is removed from play the ability will still go off.
Rowan is too dangerous for my preference but cool dynamic though, nice games guys

I guess there is a missplay there from the table. Since the activation of Rowan was on the stack after resolving the path to exile he still had the spell cost reduction.. so he would have won the game there

Yeah, it adds 1 mana the land produced so he needed either another green or white from a different source.

Nitpik time, Argothian Enchantress couldn't have had become a monster because she had shroud. Otherwise, great game.

Besiege the mirror is a very overhyped card, there is no reason it should be 30+ $ it's a diabolic tutor that lets you cast a small thing for free if you sac a thing, it is not that big of a deal, maybe in cEDH, but for normal gameplay, don't buy this card for the "marked up" price it's at right now, it will go down.
It's great in standard and pioneer. Not expensive bc of edh

What crappy way to steal the game from Rowan player, they let the covenant resolve therefore the priority stills with Rowan player... Freaking cheaters
