LOVE this scene! It makes me wanna start spinning & twirling in my kitchen! ...LOL ...And yes its in English Yes Ok to all the die hard opera fans who say English cheapens Mozart.... I know a lot is lost in translation but I appreciate this version becos I can understand what is going now. So when I watch other traditional versions in German, I can now fully enjoying it! Should Mozart be elitist?! Or can we all enjoy this magic?! I LIKE IT! & TY for doing this English version! - From us Common English folk who love to spin & twirl too :)
I'm German. I think it sounds quite good in English . But I prefer German , because it is original ! I guess Mozart would be proud that his opera was translated into an other language.
@MLSneider :You got to remember that when Mozart did this ,it was pretty radical to do an opera in Non -Italian!!!! It would be like how dare they do this in German.I have listened to French,Swedish,Danish and English versions. They are just trying to communicate to their locals, after all! PS good luck with your studies.
Mozart was a Freemason and the human values sung in The Magic Flute are universal. It would help tremendously if children would watch the Magic Flute all over the world instead of watching violent computergames.
rofl! And, Pappageno looks like he's in a variation of Scar's costume. As for Monostatos, he looks like Spy vs. Spy designed a Mexican Wrestler outfit.
Matthew 21:42 Jesus said to them, "Have you never read in the Scriptures: "'The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; the Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes'?
@MLSneider Congrats, Opera 101. You criticize a singspiel for attracting the widest possible audience? Your professor doesn't happen to wear a lot of brown shirts and completely misinterpret Fritz Lang movies, does he?
Oh for the love of God, who ever thought that Mozart in English was a good idea!? This is blasphemous and just wrong. No, he wrote it in German and you go through the effort to sing it in German. If you can't then you leave it to those who can.
I keep coming back to watch these professional world-class dancers skip around in circles with huge goofy smiles on their faces! This is so much fun.

It's completely in spirit with the original idea, which was writing it in German for the common people as opposed to in Italian for the elite.
Mi opera favorita
Wonderful music

0:55: It's a small world after all...Monostatos: NO! No...ANYTHING but that...
rofl! And, Pappageno looks like he's in a variation of Scar's costume. As for Monostatos, he looks like Spy vs. Spy designed a Mexican Wrestler outfit.
Obrigado pela uma surpresa em interpretação!
Absolutely love an interpretation of Monostatos that isn't a blatantly racist stereotype. This looks pretty old too, so props.

Very unique production. I wish I was there! I'm glad I understand it, but I miss the German singing. :(

does anyone knows where is it complete? I will love to watch this version of my fav. opera
It's on Met on Demand (though you have to pay for a subscription).
0:59 Monostatos dance
Dear AchillesValda, I see one mistake in your description. The names in the final version are Panina and Tamino, you have written: Tamina and Pamino.
That last guy at 1:32 hahaha
“Wait for meeeee!~”
Broadway Show? Thats america.
Matthew 21:42
Jesus said to them, "Have you never read in the Scriptures: "'The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; the Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes'?
Richi 7 Sorry?
glad they'd didnt do blackface
@warandcheese Yeah. Understanding what they're saying totally cheapens the work. Y'know, like anime or atrociously-subbed Swedish movies.

This is actually very realistic because overweight Asians often burp and fart which makes men leave them.
in english?????????? ah. turn off.
warandcheese Turn off? No way.
It was written to be performed in the language of the people viewing it... it’s a type of opera

Except Mozart wrote music to be consumed by the mass pubic... And this Singspiel has considerable dialogue sections. English is perfectly acceptable.
