I have an 2021 ST and this units at one time had an oil cooler, mine doesn't have it but has a big cover with a magnet that can be removed and drain the oil easily.
@@MACTFordEdge thank you for the info. Does this amr pto require serv8ce. Can't find it in the service recommendations in manual. Thank you again R9bert
Does this have anything to do with sudden power loss and wrench light appearing on the dash with AWD off message? It happened 3 times now but intermittently. Thought of ECU, Throttle Body and VCT Solenoid. But need a word of advice from an expert.
Hey there MacT. Do you know if the Taurus PTU is the same as yours? So doing this the placement of drilling will be that same? 2019 Ford Taurus Limited. AWD. Thanks.
I bought the 2.0 diesel 211 ps st line 10 days ago.. I am very happy.. but I don't know if star stop has been cancelled. The normally green emblem does not stop in gray and red skids. Why do you think the engine continues to run?
Hey Bill, I’m concerned about the PTU in my 2010 Edge AWD. I have 180,000 on the original PTU and the fluid has never been changed. I want to go ahead and change my PTU and Rear Differential fluid, but I’m concerned that I’m too late to that party. I don’t hear any grinding or groaning at speed.
I have a Ford 500. Would they be the same PTU? I'm just wondering if i can use your measurements or if i would have to remove mine to find a good place to drill.
Why wouldn't Ford have changed the PTU's by now to already have a drain plug? Just think of all the extra money they could make if Ford owners had to have the PTU Oil changed every 3000 miles. The way it is now, of course Ford considers it "non-serviceable" claims the oil never needs to be changed. At least the Ford Dealership in our town claims that and because its "non-serviceable" they will not change the gear oil in it. I suppose they want the big bucks to install a new one once ours destroys itself.
Did you ever find more info on different plugs that work well for this PTU? I'm tempted to use the one in this video, but I'm wondering if a "standard" pan plug that has a head and a washer/o ring will seal it better??? Anyone have thoughts or recommendations here?
Engineers should have to work on what they design. A part that needs regular maintenance that doesn't have a drain plug or filter access. Wait ti you change the alternator, it's the first thing on the assembly line and they build the car around it.
Then you are not aware that this is a standard practice and performed by thousands with no failures. By the way for started doing it also. Research and facts. Opinions are merely background noise.
BFD! You only need 4 or 5 threads for the plug to lock in. Likelihood of a crack emanating from a circular shape is highly remote. Heck, holes are drilled to STOP cracks from propagating. It’s known as “stop drilling”.

FORD NEEDS A TOTAL RECALL 2010 to present.
Nicely done sir 👍😁
Awesomee. Shame on Ford for not adding a drain plug. Is there any change to procedure for 2022 edge st?
The ST uses the AMR PTU with magnetic clutch totally different PTU

@@robertcox5228 This is NOT an AMR PTU.
I have a 2019 Ford Edge ST and I changed the Ptu fluid with a suckling pump from the refill plug! No problem! I put original oil motorcraft
@Helicopter Dad! sure!! Drill up yours and post a video!!!
Nice video lots of info
Ford is a prick for not putting the drain plug on there to begin with.. Their engineers HAD to know this would be an issue lol.. $$$$$$$. Good vid.
I'm going to install a fomoto drain in mine so can pump fluid in w small mittyvac
Just fill pump w ptu capacity

Also used in mazda units
Did you just pump fluid in till it came out of fill hole or pump the 12 ounces in.
Gotta luv that Redline gl but Valvoline might last for a few months.
OR, if you want to make sure it is done right, buy DORMANS PTU.
It has been redesigned beefier with better cooling & comes with a drain plug.
$850.

A gear oil test will let you know your status. Never hurts to change the gear lube.

Did you use a thread tape or gasket for the plug
Was that a magnetic drain plug you installed?
What type PTU is in the Bronco Sport 4X4

Exactly! Ford is a bunch of tools. But I hear that “At Ford, QUALITY IS JOB ONE” 😂😂😂
Nice job maçt, looks like a factory install.
Anyone else use the stainless plug on the recommendations above have any issues? Anyome else use a different plug?

Nope still haven't done it
That's a lot of junk for 3000 mi. What are they making them from?
It’s also a brand new ptu so you’re going to get a lot of shavings your first couple lube changes

Stick with Redline shock proof designed for high heat

It's about 1/2" thick. Seems plenty thick to me. I feel comfortable doing it to my own vehicle.
It's apx. 1/2" thick, plenty thick for NPT taps. I love all the comments from ppl who have no clue.
