Lol I was thinking like you! But last week I literally tried to train the sore muscles the next day, omg it works wonders, not only did it helped with my soreness, but also give me more strength....crazy
After the first couple days of PT in military boot camp, you can barely move. Somehow, when you’re getting screamed at and you figure out a way to keep working, the soreness goes away and you’re waaay stronger than before
Typically it’s better if ur training the same muscle group twice a week, have one hard day (less reps more weight) and then have a easy day (more reps, less weight). There’s no way u can go heavy 2x a week and be able to maintain that every single workout. More reps is more blood flow, which is good to change things up
Just like shin splints, people usually rest, but if you walk a mile a day with shin splints you’ll actually recover about a week sooner. The more you work out the muscle the faster it recovers. But sometimes if it’s too sore it’ll be best to take a day or two off until the soreness goes down to shred the muscle again
Depending on your walking form… If your gait is the cause of the shin sprints then it can be counterproductive. Same with any specific movement pattern. The principle of balanced mobilisation/strengthening as treatment is sound, for sure - I have just seen numerous people suffering from terrible habitual movement and posture.
Just started working out after basically sitting on my ass my entire 34 years of life and omg so sore! Stretching helps wonders and I'm usually good with one day of rest.
@Captain Obvious Yep. I'm back at the gym after 6 years off. 5 days in after training all muscle groups and I can't walk and can barely hold a toothbrush.
@Captain Obvious You're right. I did go too hard but my biggest mistake was that I overstretched my calves after doing working my legs and doing cardio. The rest is just expected DOMS.
Just started seriously working out for the first time in my life, muscles are still slightly sore a week after the workout, 3rd day after was the worst. Is that normal? And will the soreness level after workouts decrease rapidly if I keep doing it consistently?
@@yamchathewolf7714 I’m not an expert but I don’t think your muscles should still be sore a week after a single workout. Are you getting 8 hours of sleep? Are you consuming enough protein? Are you adequately resting on rest days? And yes as time goes on your body will get used to the workout and become less sore.
@@neel2451 Yeah dude I sleep on average 9 hours a day, eat well and can't do any exercise on rest days because the muscles are so sore and weak. Since I recently started working out I've only had 4 hard workouts thus far and every time the muscles took about a week to heal, even after that rest period I felt a little weaker. I guess it's because I haven't exercised in years.
This makes sense to me when I use to train Muay Thai everyday and work those sore muscles until I'd regain full mobility of those sore tight muscles my recovery would be better in the days to come.
I do the same exact thing, upper body, next day lower then break. The difference is that on lower body day i still dona light workout on my upper body, maybe a set of pushups or some other form of calisthenics that require activation of most of your muscles.
I’ve always looked at this subject with a common sense approach. The reason we grow is to adapt our bodies to our environment. If the abuse is consistent it will make your body adapt to be ready . There are obvious limits to this you don’t want to run 30 miles a day but if it’s in the limits of what the body is capable of it has been better for me to train sore it makes the body adapt
I have lower back issues. Any time it tweak it I do back extension. It cuts the recover times down to like 2 or 3 days. I wish I knew in my playing days when I was young.
During wrestling season we were beat and sore the entire season 🤣 5 days practice, Saturday matches, Sunday rest only. We’d even have some tournaments that were Saturday and Sunday (10 matches)
I’ve had a lay off for around 5wks, I’ve completed a full body workout on Monday, did light weights for volume, felt great while doing my workout. Every muscle that was sore after has healed to a certain degree but my quads are still cramping, put me off doing my workout on Wednesday but I’m going to get a workout done on Thursday, full body, light weights for volume but this time I may have to do less reps this time. DOMS can be so annoying 😁
Loll I feel you man. I hit calves so hard one time 2 days later I woke up and couldn’t stand flat footed. Had to walk on my tippy toes for the whole day and stretch occasionally to help with the pain. Learned my lesson that day
DOMS is also a sign though that you’re progressing, as the muscle fibres have definitely been torn. There’s so much data suggesting that rest days and good sleep help with gains. And then there’s so much other information arguing that training lighter whilst sore, is better than leaving the muscles to heal through rest.
Been 19 years since I’ve been in a gym and went straight into squats and deadlift for the first day. Boy. Two days later and I still can’t do a full squat with no weight. I’ll keep stretching and trying with no weight but definitely feel the wincing ninny’s.
I basically do lower or upper with a mix of abs & cardio every session 😭 it’s my first time taking this serious so I’m expected the soreness but hopefully I learn my body in time.
@@Ahmed-jv7oc better! I don’t get nearly as sore these days and learned to go more often, instead of less often for 2 hours and overworking myself. My boyfriend has been helping with learning new moves.
@@ebonih7138 yess definitely being consistent Is the best thing you can do in "fittness" . For soreness even if it's nit as much anymore I'd suggest investing in a foam roller, these things are magical if you haven't tried one out you definitely should!!
So sounds like training a sore muscle is in a sense muscle therapy. Getting more nutrients to the sore muscle while its sore by continuing to move it enough to get maybe a pump? Just not so much you continue to damage it further.
Do you have any particularly advice on working out when you're chronically sore? Like, would you suggest working out lightly and stretching only just to get the muscles healing without hurting yourself?
im currently trying to do cardio and flexibility training when sore from strength training. its kind of a self experiment. i can confirm how i feel to recover faster, gaining mobility back etc. at the same time i wonder if i get enough recovery that way and therefor will hit a plateau of "overtraining".
@@ImAltair1 sure. i do bodyweightwarrior (youtube channel) routations for flexibilitym hasfit routations for posture correction. when my upper body recovers i ride my unicycle. when my legs recover i practise escrima. but its about an elevated heartrate not the exercise in particular. chose a fun activity to you. but yeah, make adaptations for recovery. but pls, im just a sporty amateur and nowhere near a fitness rolemodel. but i can savely and strongly recommend to check out bodyweightwarriors and hasfit youtube channels. tons of good content. strength, flexibility, functionality, rehabilitation or cardio training, hasfit has it all :D

This is why as a track and field athlete I was always told whenever I was sore that "soreness is cured with more soreness"
