Hi there! I was looking for a video that summarizes the USMLE and UKMLA as these were what were discussed in my class as an option to apply through to practice in those respective countries. We discussed the Canadian and Australian options as well. I only realized halfway through this video that it’s a year old and was surprised as to how much has changed over the span of 1 year with these medical licensing exams. USMLE step 1 is now a pass/fail exam and there is a UKMLA which will be introduced a year before I graduate. Still, this was an informative video but will try and find a more comprehensive video on the exam contents for both in due time. Thank you ✨.
I'm a bit confused, I understood in your video that there are specialties in which you don't need to present MRCP? I am interested in doing anesthesiology in the UK but I don't know if I have to present MRCP after PLAB
MRCP is not needed for anaesthetics. MRCP is suitable for senior doctors who wants to pursue the higher medical specialties like gastroenterology, dermatology, cardiology, neurology, renal medicine, respiratory etc. MRCP is not needed for other specialties like surgery, paediatrics, psychiatry, general practice, anaesthetics, radiology etc.
Yes, but only if you want to specialise in one of the medical specialties like cardio, resp, derm. If you want to specialise in surgery, paediatrics, general practice etc you do not need the MRCP. You will need to do the other pg exams like mrcs, mrcog, mrcpaeds. So it is not worth doing the MRCP.
No one should consider coming to the UK, with this current economical situation. People here are having to decide whether to have heating or have meals. 😢
Hi dr lavania ..i.wana to know if a person is old graduate and have gap of 5 years working in Saudi Arabia in PHC in between he had a gap of 5 years where he was working in his own town as GP which u know cannot have record now he had passed mrcp exam.. would hw able to get a chance of getting enrolled in cardiology. ..by GMC.. 2nd point is their any age limit..to get in residency programe
Yes, as you have completed MRCP- you can be registered with the GMC. With regards to specialty training in the UK- there is no age limit. As long as you are interested in that specialty and have a good cv/portfolio- you should have a chance of getting in. Have you done all/part of cardiology specilaty/pg training? If you have done pg in cardiology previously- you could try and enter the specialist register via the cesr route.
Have you done dermatology training in another country or have prior experience in dermatology? Pathway for dermatology after FY2 - After FY2, apply for internal medicine training (IMT) (2 years). After IMT, apply for higher speciatly training in dermatology (5 years).
Hi! Thank you for your video. Very helpful. But I still have some questions. I'm an IMG graduated in 2010 in Ukraine. I have a surgery and clinical oncology trainings and practicing oncology in Russia currently. I also passe USMLE Step 1 and 2 (CK+CS), but no Step 3. Do I have any opportunities in UK or do I have to take PLAB?
If you did MBBS outside the UK/EU, you need to register with the GMC. To register with the GMC you can do PLAB or one of the UK specialty exams like MRCP/MRCS/MRCOG/MRCPCH etc. PLAB is suitable for newly qualified doctors and the UK specialty exams will be suitable for more senior doctors.

There is still a shortage of doctors/specialist in UK so you should be able to get a job in a good hospital regardless of Brexit. I am pretty sure that EU specialty training/postgraduate training is recognised in UK. Do check with the GMC before applying.

Hi, excellent video. I was just wondering, when you say that with the MRCP you can practice in UK without the PLAB, you mean after having done all parts of MRCP + PACES? Or is it that you can do only part 1 MRCP and still be eligible?
Hi, thank you. You need to complete all the parts of MRCP to be eligible.
Mam this video has good information and please do mention about sallery please mam... In another video based on speciality
Thank you. Do check out this video on the doctors salary in UK th-cam.com/video/vxVO0ltNb34/w-d-xo.html
Hi Dr., it is difficult for trust grade SHOs (IMG) to get into a specialty training in the UK?
Not really. From my obervations, it is possible.
Which is best plab or mrcs which is the best way madam
It depends on your experience. If you have surgical experience, go for MRCS. MRCS is normally done during core surgical training (2 years). PLAB is more suitable for newly qualified doctors.
Hi lavnya, first of all thank you for your responses on my previous comments. I've come across one the foreign medical grauduate, a youtuber of india who did his mbbs from russia or ukraine , am nut sure. He did mrcp 1 right after mbbs without even an internship. He said that for mrcp 1 u just need to have a degree,. And for mrcp 2, 12 months of practice, and 18 months of practice for mrcp 3 after clearing mrcp 2. Is that correct? Now am planning for mrcp after my graduation instead of plab, as this will save my time. And also if i wont get a pg seat in india. I will continue to practice to meet the required month of practice for mrcp.
Hi, you can check the eligibility criteria for MRCP here www.mrcpuk.org
Hi I have a question after plab do we have to sit for mrcp or no
It depends on the specialty you want to pursue. What specialty do you want to do?
Internal medicine
And cardiology
@@samzd5844 Hi, yes you need MRCP to pursue medical specialties like derm, resp, cardio, gastro etc.

Not sure if they will check your passport. I think they will just check your degree certificate. But best to check with the GMC directly for a more definite answer.

Hi i am a paediatric resident in pakistan i want to work in uk but no centre for mrcpch in pakistan what should i do now..thanks
Hi, you could try completing the mrcph in other intenational centres (eg India). Alternatively, you can do PLAB and register with the GMC here. Once you are working here, you can do the MRCPH and work towards joining the specialist register via the CESR route. You can find more information here especially for international doctors. www.rcpch.ac.uk/resources/opportunities-uk-international-doctors

Hi, thank you so much, well explained. Can you please tell me , what's the place for consultant radiologists in UK.?
Hi Ma'am, Thank you very much for the information you shared.
I am a medical graduate and I'm looking forward to do the PLAB exam in future.
I want to choose general surgery as a specialty, will you please guide me in what i need to do to get into surgical specialty in the UK.
Hi, after MBBS, internship and PLAB, apply for FY2 post in the UK. After Fy2 (1 year), apply for core surgical training CST (2 years). After CST, apply for higher surgical training in you desired specialty eg general surgery/plastics/urology/vascular etc (5 years).
@@lavnya70 how is the application procedure? Is it interview based or are there more exams one need to clear for that?
@@lavnya70 In the FY2 year are you considered as a surgical resident?
@@DrPatil. It is mainly based on your interview and portfolio/CV. During CST, you need to complete MRCS and during higher surgical training you need to complete FRCS.
@@DrPatil. No, FY2 is the post doctors do after internship year. CST and higher surgical training will be equivalent to residency.
Hi dr 😍, can you please elaborate me ,as you said one does not need to give mrcp if you wish to do surgery, obs and gyna , pshycatry , is plab enough? And if yes then right after the plab 2 will i work in fy1 and f2 or trust grade job( nhs or trust grade job, what does it means) and right after non training job how do we get into those branches like obs and gyna , surgery ? How much amount will we be paid and how long will be the course?
Yes, MRCP is only necessary to enter the higher medical specialties like gastroenterology, dermatology, cardiology, neurology, renal medicine, respiratory etc.
If you have completed internship, after PLAB 2, you can apply for FY2 trust grade jobs.
After FY2, you can apply for specialty training in your desired specialty.

UK doctors don't normally do PG degree to specialise and become a consultant. We do the specialty training programme to specialise. Specialty training is not conducted by a university. It is not a MD/degree/masters. Specialty training programme is free. You work for the hospital while you train. You will also receive a monthly salary.
Hello hope your doing well . What are the study materials for plab 1 and MRCP please. Love from US
Hi Lavanya! I wanted to ask that after giving PLAB and working as an SHO, what other exams do I have to give for 1) Surgery 2) Obs 3) Ophtha 4) Psychiatry. Sorry, am a little confused, haven't really decided my final stream yet. Thanks!
Hi, after PLAB and working as an SHO, you do not need any other exams prior to applying for further training. Take the time to decide on what specialty you want to do. Then apply for the specialties you want to do. No exams are required for the application. Once you are in the specialty training programme, you will be required to complete the specific exams for that specialty. (Surgery- MRCS, then FRCS), (OBS- MRCOG), Opthal (FRCOphth), Psychiatry (MRCPSY).
Thank you for the prompt and crisp response. Keep the videos coming up! They are really very helpful! Thank you! 😇

You can go into any specialty. The selection into specialty training will depend on you CV/portfolio and interview performance.
