A few tips from a retired truck driver at 63,years of life, don't rely on apps, get a map of love's truck stops, plan your rest on the distance from point to point, you will stumble upon adventure along the way, and check your tires every time you stop, don't rely on apps, carry on
You are educating many of us on the pros and cons of ad-van-tures. I would like to add that many of the decisions you have to make daily living in a sticks and bricks can also be taunting. Home repairs, yard work, cooking, cleaning a much larger area. Living in the moment with all your senses and intuition active at 100% sensitivity is truly living in the moment! God Bless and keep you safe Tracey.
Thanks for sharing your experiences. I retired a couple years ago and took a 4 month trip in my 24 ft Motorhome to see if I’d like Nomadic life. I learned It’s not for me. I prefer living in my house. People were nice but I feel safer at home. I didn’t use my black tank because I didn’t want to pay for or deal with dumping. I’m a retired Truck Driver so peeing in a jug etc etc is normal.
I thought you had a little shower set up in the van When I did van life 20 years ago, I remember feeling so excited and relieved about a truck stop shower 😊
I just got off the road from 21 years of over the road truck driving. Being able to stay home and do things I want to do is Really awesome. Having time to work on property and house and projects, or nothing at all is liberating. This watching van life videos people evolve is very entertaining to me. So keep em coming and stay safe.
Girl you are Living your Life the way you see fit. Ignore the Couch Potatoes & others. You are speaking from the Heart and sharing your Personal Experiences. More Power to you. Cheers from Toronto, Canada.
I'm a retired truck driver and I use to have to fuel everyday so I had a loves card or flying J what ever and everytime I filled up a free shower was put on my card a lot of times I had more showers than I had time to use and if someone was at the fuel desk and was going to pay for a shower I would let the clerk slide my card so they could shower for free don't be afraid to ask a driver if he has an extra shower on his card for you to use.
I have over 20 years over the road trucking. If you will take the time to plan each day's trip...where the rest areas are, where to fuel, eat, sleep, it will take a lot of the stress away. You could start by targeting the major truck stops. Make notes of what is on the way. You can always change your plan. Watch your back.
🤟 You'll get the wrinkles out eventually and find your way. I'm sure I'd do truck stop showers too. You'll be a veteran before you know it. It's your trip...period, end of story! Thanks for taking us along, God bless. Take care, lady from the land of lakes.
Think about getting a gym membership like Planet Fitness for showers and parking. Seems it would be less expensive than showering at truck stops. I am a senior and gym membership is included with my Medicare health insurance (Silver sneakers).
It sounds like my first time out. Scary at first, worrying about night time sleeping,, learning about truck stops. Then seeing the majesty and beauty of nature.
I agree with you on finding a spot and hanging out as long as you want. Driving solo is exhausting when I drive to NC to see my daughter it's 18 hours and I usually just drive straight through and it's a grind!
I think you're doing great. I'm planning on taking a long trip to see friends and family so I'll have to be there on certain days because they have lives too. So, I understand about traveling at a faster pace. Once this trip to see everyone is completed you'll be able to slow your pace down and spend more time and days in places you want to stop and explore. Traveling won't be as tiring. You'll be able to plan your route to places you want to go and take your time getting there. Enjoying the journey.
That's EXACTLY right! I'm going back to Minnesota in March and then I found things I want to do on the van to make it better and more comfortable to live in as my home and, yes, I will be planning trips but shorter, leisurely, trips!!!
You should get that shower from Europe that is portable, but can be used inside the Van and it does not cost much, I think it is called Evershower and it is easy to hang up in your van with a pan for the water to drain to, just a thought.
Good morning Chickie!!! Wow, now that’s an eye opener! But your just telling us how it really feels to you to be out there. Damn girl, you still look good enough when you need a shower! Please don’t take that the wrong way.... I do the pole, not the hole!!! ❤️

Just had to this morning. Had someone comment that I’m a fraud and that they are a group of people who research TH-cam for frauds🥸 Yep, I guess they cracked the case!😒 I can’t believe what people do with their time.
I've been watching you since the beginning of your journey and personally I think you're doing great the only advice I could share would be to don't give any real estate to the negative comments on the internet
Kudos on 10 k!! One time years ago, a driver, like you describe here, came up directly behind me on a highway... 3 lanes, no other cars in sight. I'm doing 65, he's probably doing 85+. Turns at the last second - like an afterthought - but clips my rear bumper, on the fuel fill side. I was like, WHAT? Continue to be careful out there!
I love it that you are being honest about the van life. I am also form Minnesota and I am in the beginning process of building an expedition vehicle. Many issues with companies already but I am working through it. I hope to be at least far enough to get out on the road in the spring or summer. Like I said it's nice to hear the thinking and over thinking you are going through. I always over think things. As far as driving I can drive 8, 10 even 12 hours to get to a destination but learning to plant myself somewhere unknow is work in progress. As far as traveling on your journey alone you are young and attractive and sure you will meet someone along the way to share the experiences and maybe even the driving. Great travels and many more experiences to enjoy. 👍👍
Van Life is what YOU make it...Just like everyday life. As long as you are progressing on your journey, you are doing it the way your heart desires. We all learn differently and approach life differently. There is NOTHING wrong or abnormal in how you journey through your van life. Do not listen to the naysayers...I am proud of you for taking the chance on you. Keep doing vanlife the way you want and thanks for sharing. God Bless and Happy Holidays 🤶🏽🎅🏽🎄❄✝🙏🏽
I get shaky when I skip a meal as well, so I like to keep bananas on hand for a quick snack, apples and such as well. I prefer not to eat too much in the way of processed foods generally. 'Showers' yeah, I bet that is a pain with some van type of full time travels, but you seem to have it down, as to where to get them and I'd assume some are cleaner than others. Stay safe, have fun and be kind is my motto!
I appreciate what you are sharing. I know when I start next year I will feel a lot of the same things. I’m glad to hear them expressed. I won’t be surprised and maybe thinking I’m the only one feeling what you have expressed.
It is different when you just get in and drive, no real destination, maybe a general direction. When you add deadlines/appointments/exact destinations the stress starts going up.
Hi, I have been in Fort Stockton TX overnight in motel. You will enjoy Quartzsite AZ, on I-10 between Phoenix and L.A. There is lots of FREE camping in the desert. $10 shower, restaurant, laundromat on Main St. LP, dump, fresh water on Hwy 95 north. Some Loves, Flying J, ... have showers, LP, gas, diesel, varies across the country.
Really enjoyed your conversation this morning. It was really good to hear you explain that right now you are on a "destination" portion of your Ad-Van-Ture. Explains a lot. Yes it is hard being the Driver, chef, maintenance guru, travel planner ... by your self (I now am a single adventure also), but it's also rewarding! Like the idiot that passed on the right - you persevered! Take care, enjoy the ride, and keep up the great videos... Like my E-Mail sig, When life hands you a curve, lean into it! (I also enjoy traveling/camping on my motorcycle)... Bob😎
MERRY CHRISTMAS, I hope you've made it through the wild west where cactus and tumble weeds are about the only point of interest. East Texas has the piney woods, tall trees,, and green grass. Safe travels.
Good luck with your travels.. that's is something that I have always wanted to do. I bought a conversation van a few years ago but I haven't done anything to make it livable. I think I would do it if I had some to do it with. But it been nice following your travels.
Thanks for your honest view of van/road life. To me its seems like more pros than cons. I can't wait to go on a similar journey. Remember perfection is a hope, dream and illusion.
You should visit the caverns at Sonora! They really are spectacular. Since it sounds like you're travelling I-10, your next stop would be Junction...cute little town, nice views at the river that runs through there.
It was COLD and raining and WINDY in Sonora. I thought about the caves but was too busy being rainy and cold in a Love's parking lot:-) You are correct, sir. Junction was the next stop. Was there last night at a Pilot (or I think it's a Flying j) parking lot. Finally, sunny and nice today!
Your pros and cons are going to have some similarity to others but many were just about you and that's ok. It was nice to hear you talk about them. I appreciate how you don't romanticize your journey. So excited for you as you learn and grow in this experience. There are always going to be some negative comments but look pass them because there are many people out there that are for you!!!
Morning my friend ...... *Hello 👋 to Monday morning! Thanks for the 'share to care'. Value your insights on making your days special or good or decent to us subscriber(s). Texas is a wide open long width of prairie field, etc. Maybe you'll get closer eventually to San Antonio or up a little to Austin (my choice, I think, Austin) 😎. Guess it depends on your spontaneous direction destination 😏
Good morning Tracey. I'm pleased you're in good spirits. Your thoughts and opinions are chat worthy interesting. West Texas is rather unique, and difficult to describe to someone who has never experienced it. Yearly I travel from central Texas to San Diego and back on a motorcycle. Fun experiences. As always, I'm sending hugs and prayers to you on your adventure.
RV/van life is a lot like living on a boat, only on land. You have limitations on the facilities you have with you, you are completely responsible for your own utilities (electricity, water, sewer, etc). You have to find moorage (parking) short or long-term, take on fuel, find secure places to sit out storms, etc. Takes a lot of adapting. If you run out of something, you have to work around it until you can resupply. You have a fun adventure ahead of you, not just your personal journey but lots of experimenting with toys (solar, power station, wi-fi hot spot, etc.), ways to conserve water and propane, etc. I had it down to where I could bathe with 1 quart of water, 2 quarts if I washed my hair (I was slender back then and had a buzz haircut, I have significantly more surface area to deal with now.🙄) Just a side note, Jackery has a good reputation but they appear falling behind a bit. Bluetti, and even some off-brands, are using lithium iron phosphate batteries, a newer type of lithium ion battery that quadruples the number of charging cycles the power station is good for.
In Texas on a 2 lane road..especially in the boonies, slow vehicles move over onto the shoulder to let faster ones go by, so you should too if people fly up behind you.
I have never heard of such a thing! There's a passing lane or passing lines for a reason! I have, a lot of times, moved over or even gotten off on an exit just to get people off my ass:-)
I'm not a fan of interstate traveling either. And yes Texas is a BIG state I've been through it a few times. Thanks for sharing the pros and cons. Very helpful
I did what you are doing for 3 months this summer. EXCEPT: I didn’t have any time crunches. I just knew I wanted to go to certain National parks. When I wanted a “real” shower and dump I would go to a National park or COE campground. With a senior park pass I got in free. And campground cost was 1/2. So cost was $7-10. Only had to dump at a Pilot truck stop $10 twice. I just made my Campground reservation when that day. Cause I made the decision depending on where I was. FYI u can get LP at Tractor supply too. I stayed Overnight in the rear Of a couple Cracker Barrel’s.
Idea: what would it look like to travel south from the Biloxi, Pan Handle, to the Florida Keys and take 3 weeks to do it? No I-4 or I-75. Slow your MOJO to backroads south.
Thanks for your honest post. I leave in early January for an adventure in my teardrop. Have travelled in many types of campers but this will be a first in my Little Guy Mini Max. Not sure where I will be but am heading south for warmer weather than we get in New England. Hope to meet you on the road! Thanks.
You are doing so Awesome Finally, someone who I can relate with....so true on vanlife reality. I thought , I must be doing something wrong ... if you're talking about Ozona Crockett County which was named for Colonel Davy Crockett a hero of the Alamo.
I wonder if it's easier to drive at night, avoid the traffic. I guess you would get the truckers though. What about a CB radio? I just wonder if it would give you traveling info? Idk. I got the early morning slot to see the grand babies yesterday other than that I watched movies yesterday and ate left over quiche. Oh I walked the dogs at the park and seen a camper van with generator on,, I thought of you. Believe it not it was 50 degrees here in Michigan. Well back to work learning my new job tomorrow 🙃. Today I think I'm going to look for a 2nd part time job on line. Still struggling money wise. Your doing great, have fun and enjoy.
You look fine, no one would even be able to tell you hadn’t showered. I’m glad you found a place to get everything and take your shower. Ignore people’s negative comments about your destinations. If they were doing it they would not be saying that crap!
Yeah Tracey it's like anything you do you got to do it for a while before you get the hang of it!!! I only go for a month at a time before I go back to my home base you're pretty brave just jumping out into it!!!! Okay sweetie safe travels!!!
Hey just a tip. Try city parks at some Texas towns. The have rv places to stay for free or 10 bucks not expensive. Some have showers, e/w hookups, also. Most you call city hall or police department can tell you. But always check. Texas has varying degrees of safety in their city parks. And a lot of small towns doesn't have a police department.
I think a lot of van lifers were doing the van life thing long before they started a you tube channel, so your channel is so interesting to see someone start a van adventure. Also, I have been so impressed with your ability to trust your instincts and move if you need to.
Always a pleasure to watch your videos I miss all what you are discovering like finding a place to sleep To dump to shower Staying in an apartment is so boring My brain is at a standstill Can’t wait to get back on the road and that’s how you will feel when you stop for a long time You are too adventurous to stop what you have started It’s part of healing
I would like to get you that jackery. I don't know how. You so much parallel my story. Please just let me help you. You are an angel... An amazing human and your mom is so proud to have you as her beautiful daughter. She is as lucky to have you as you are to have her. My only wish is that I still had my mom to share my van life with. Much love...
Many positive words describe you, and your travels, like tenacity, perseverance, and bravery. Your honesty in revealing your daily grind is eye opening to those who may think its all fun and games traveling, cuz evidently, its not. Its deflating, watching anyone struggle. But, i still think you can recharge when you get done with this trip and next time will be easier. I say that, not from experience, but from hope. I am sitting here wstching " Aerial America" on TV. And, i think if you watch it, you will be inspired to see the country some day, at a much slower pace, and you will love it. I know it is a goal of mine, but i am running out of time, because of my age and or the potential that health could become an issue, but i can dream :)
I enjoy listening to you. And like you said everyone's vanlife is different. I myself still working, and retire in two months will see a difference, because at the moment l shower at work, and even wash my clothes. I will have retirement pay and, money that I have saved. So l will really be living life without much worry. But at the same time who knows what's just around the corner. By the way I had laser treatment on my eyes 8 years ago. And don't regret it one bit. I was liberated from wearing glasses, what a relief, l can tell you 🙂 Sending you much love and good vibes Tracey 🙌💛 Dave from France 🥂
Exactly, Dave! No one can really say, "that's not van life." My goodness. We all are having our own journeys and reasons for it. I am going to get laser plastique and can't wait. I've had four pingueculas removed (pterygiums) which are scars on the eyes. I can't wear contacts and my right eye is so blurry. That's why I can only drive during the day. I cannot wait!
@@AdvanturesOver50 How did you get scars on your eyes Tracey ? I will understand if you don't want to talk about. In any case l wish you good luck with the treatment ! 🙂
I couldn't help smiling to myself at the number of times you used the word 'Dump'! Of course it is the reality of van life and a really important one! When I eventually travel in my smaller van I will simply have a bucket with a toilet seat and bags but thought of using the saw dust method which prevents smells. Driving is definitely more precarious now that it used to be, I've been without vehicle accidents for a number of years now but I had a close call whilst driving the other day in Portsmouth UK. It's my city at the moment and one of the most populated cities in Europe and I was driving down a restricted speed road only narrow enough for one vehicle with parked cars either side, and coming towards me at great speed were two kids without helmets on a Lambretta! They didn't slow down and sped by me narrowly avoiding killing themselves! I'm sure they were getting in the Christmas Spirit, the alcoholic one that is! Have a peaceful Sunday and take care.🌄
Ha! I know! Because I kept thinking that I was going to get to and then it didn't work out! Until, finally it did.:-) Someone wrote me and said they were drinking their coffee and nearly spit it out when I said "I have to dump". Hilarious!!!
10,000 subscribers wtf I’ve been posting videos of our beach for a year now. I think I am up to 16!! Too funny 😂 I didn’t expect it to go anywhere either - at least my expectations were met!! Seriously I laugh out loud watching your videos - or I’m crying, one or the other. So thank you for this range of emotions. Look forward to watching your videos for sure - have no fear I doubt anyone is going anywhere!! 😎
Thank you for sharing your journey as you travel to different places. You are a true inspiration to all of us because of your authenticity. I pray for your safety on the roadways in the Mighty Name of Jesus. Amen God Bless you!!
One of the reasons you got the Roadtrek was the bathroom and shower. Curious as to why you’re not using the shower. I am not full time, but I have a 1999 Rialta, which is similar to yours in the back end but a VW up front instead of a Dodge. I use my inside shower and I have a pop up shower tent to use the outdoor shower (which I love) and I’ve even learned to be comfortable with military showers to conserve water. I have also opted for a composting toilet so no more stressing about finding a dump. Amazing how long your water lasts when you stop wasting it on flushing! These small changes have relieved so much stress! Being a solo senior female traveler on a budget like you, I feel all of the anxiety and spent energy on all the rest of what you mentioned so every little bit of relief helps! Constant decision making - I hear you! Ugh! Be gentle with yourself. You’ll figure it all out and get more comfortable in time.
I don't know what you like to eat but I have been going to Walmart and getting the ready made salads and they have different kinds and they are very good. You can keep them in a fridge for quite awhile. Just thought you might want to get some. Happy Travels....💘
I'm back great video enjoy your day off. People reaching out for product reviews is great 👍 even if you got one take another give aways are awesome for some that needs one . congratulations 10.000 subs yaaaa. Happy trails
Welcome back! thank you! And, yes, I'm looking forward to reviewing them and if I ever get anything I don't use or need, I will definitely pass it along!

The little car that you showed earlier is what I refer to as a “Pregnant Roller-skate!” 😜😆🤣🤣
There’s a truck stop and a small car museum in Ozona

Glad brands are reaching out to you! 😉👍💥
Thank you for sharing. We just had a week vacation and traveled all over MN.
I really enjoy your unvarnished, tell it like it is van life journey!! Keep the videos coming.
Thanks, Kevin!
Great video, Everything I would be thinking of too. Thank you for sharing it. Enjoy!!!!
Have fun and take care and take it easy and enjoy it
East Texas has some great lakes to camp in. YOU need to think about some COLD weather coming in Jan. & Feb.
I'll be in Florida!!!!

Good words… though I’m delayed in following your travels. Once again, very helpful as I plan my trip-only a month long, but great transparency.
Turn around and head back to Arizona! Lol. I'm heading to sedona tomorrow and golfing this afternoon. This forever bachelor enjoys life! Timmy C

Good luck with your travels.. that's is something that I have always wanted to do. I bought a conversation van a few years ago but I haven't done anything to make it livable. I think I would do it if I had some to do it with. But it been nice following your travels.
I have lots of loving ... Oh yay keep on coming...
Thanks for your honest view of van/road life. To me its seems like more pros than cons. I can't wait to go on a similar journey. Remember perfection is a hope, dream and illusion.
👍 proud of you! Life is an adventure no matter where we are.
Sister there’s nothing in west Texas except mesquite and wind. Born and raised out there….lol
I love your honesty. Stay safe. Merry Christmas! 🎄🧡🇬🇧🧡🎄
You could of got some good deals on solar down in quartzite Arizona at the big rv deal in January.
Gooooooood Morning!! 9.99k subs 😮 SO SO CLOSE to 10k 😁 I’m pullin for ya 😉
You just described the life of a long haul truck driver, Without the responsibility of the cargo being delivered which is the hard part.
Wishing you safe travels and Vantastic adventures!!!!
I had it down to where I could bathe with 1 quart of water, 2 quarts if I washed my hair (I was slender back then and had a buzz haircut, I have significantly more surface area to deal with now.🙄)
Just a side note, Jackery has a good reputation but they appear falling behind a bit. Bluetti, and even some off-brands, are using lithium iron phosphate batteries, a newer type of lithium ion battery that quadruples the number of charging cycles the power station is good for.
I love that:"more surface area" 😂😂😂😂 I know that well!!!
You look fantastic 👍👍👍. I’ve been in trucking over 30 years. I understand your life style. I’ll never let go of that freedom. 🤗👍
Thank you!🤳 That was so great. Yes the exhaustion - was intuiting that is what it would be like. Thank you for the coffee time!!💅💅💅
In Texas on a 2 lane road..especially in the boonies, slow vehicles move over onto the shoulder to let faster ones go by, so you should too if people fly up behind you.
I have never heard of such a thing! There's a passing lane or passing lines for a reason! I have, a lot of times, moved over or even gotten off on an exit just to get people off my ass:-)
LOL, what people say! You have told us that you have a preplanned trip this time.
Good morning!!!! I love your raw truth.
Just came in from feeding cattle we was team roping tonight love this channel
I'm actually going to start working on a ranch for a month or so! I would love to do that:-)
Thanks for your honest post.
It wasn't so much what I looked like, it's what I FELT like:-)
Yeah Tracey it's like anything you do you got to do it for a while before you get the hang of it!!! I only go for a month at a time before I go back to my home base you're pretty brave just jumping out into it!!!! Okay sweetie safe travels!!!
Such a kool woman... thanks for sharing your life... You are so sweet.
Do you have your Roadtrek shower liner that clips into the ceiling?😁😁😁
Hey just a tip. Try city parks at some Texas towns. The have rv places to stay for free or 10 bucks not expensive. Some have showers, e/w hookups, also. Most you call city hall or police department can tell you. But always check. Texas has varying degrees of safety in their city parks. And a lot of small towns doesn't have a police department.
I think a lot of van lifers were doing the van life thing long before they started a you tube channel, so your channel is so interesting to see someone start a van adventure.
Also, I have been so impressed with your ability to trust your instincts and move if you need to.
I see you made it to 10,000 subscribers!!! Congratulations!!! Obviously that “magic” you have is on a fast track to awesomeness!!!
Always a pleasure to watch your videos
I miss all what you are discovering like finding a place to sleep
To dump to shower
Staying in an apartment is so boring
My brain is at a standstill
Can’t wait to get back on the road and that’s how you will feel when you stop for a long time
You are too adventurous to stop what you have started
It’s part of healing
You are exactly right, Marie. I think that's why I have so many jobs. I need things to keep me hopping! You will be back out there in no time!!!
Safe travels🙏😊🤗
hello Tracy nice to see you
congrats on your 10k, keep doing what you doing, you're magic!
You ARE at 10K now!!! Congratulations, Tracey! Love your videos, whatever the content!
Goooooood morning Tracey 🌅 showers are awesome! cheaper than a hotel ! happy trails
Actually they aren’t. You have to pay for a room in order to use the shower.
I was liberated from wearing glasses, what a relief, l can tell you 🙂
Sending you much love and good vibes Tracey 🙌💛 Dave from France 🥂
Are you going to Bob wells RTR (rubber tramp rendezvous) next month in Quartzsite Arizona???
did you see the Fort Stockton Roadrunner? I might have missed that episode if you did. Thanks for sharing.
I understand there are beaches in Florida that are camper and vanlifer friendly. You'll be great.
Amen
God Bless you!!
Hey great video be safe hope you have a Merry Christmas👍👍
Thanks for your honesty
Enjoyed this video, very informative..
I don't know what you like to eat but I have been going to Walmart and getting the ready made salads and they have different kinds and they are very good. You can keep them in a fridge for quite awhile. Just thought you might want to get some. Happy Travels....💘
Yes! That’s what I get all the time to eat healthy but on the go!👌
Safe travels Tracey.
Hey congratulations you hit 10K subscribers. I’ve been enjoying your videos and you rock.
