    So just because something requires effort, that means it's unnatural? Ok Ms. Johanson. I guess it's unnatural to raise children, eat right and exercise too.

      There's a lot WRONG in your comment, *gigglyfitzgirl* and I assume it's due to you being TH-cam Famous in the Real comments... but, still... How about this? Show us where it's in our DNA to be monogamous. There's a difference between natural and rational. Monogamy, raising children, eating right and exercising are all rational choices. Based on what? Natural impulses. Study.

    • @gigglyfitzgirl
      @gigglyfitzgirl 7 ปีที่แล้ว +72

      OneLoveRSR ?? I'm gonna express my opinion whether my comments get popular or not, or whether or not you think it's "wrong". I don't see how the 2 are correlated.
      We're just going to have to agree to disagree because while I do believe that humans have natural impulses, I also believe that we were born with consciences and free will for a reason. That's what separates us from animals.
      But my point was to label something as "unnatural", just because it requires some work is ludicrous.

    Monogamy is not for everyone. But I think they are confusing "not monogamous" with being "unfaithful". Cheating is a whole other ball park that I don't think Scarlett was referring to. Some people do better with 1 partner, some do better with multiple, some do better with none, it all depends on the person.

    • @jenniferjaramillo6759
      @jenniferjaramillo6759 7 ปีที่แล้ว +48

      Leah E the thing is also they make it seem like monogamy is marriage, which in that case it's not natural because marriage is not natural it's is social construct. I just find this topic interesting because monogamy was not something people always practiced, it was something that was influenced by culture and that's why I personally don't think it is natural because for me for something to be natural for humans it can't be influenced by culture or institutions. I'm just talking in sociological perspective but to each there own.

    • @gleegleek4eva
      @gleegleek4eva 7 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      Jennifer Jaramillo It was literally a celebration of 'selling' the daughter to the highest bidder (a family's son takes the daughter off your hands and in turn the daughter's family gave them money). It wasn't romanticized until much later. I believe in monogamy but I don't believe in marriages. There are people who have dated for 10 plus years and have gotten along perfectly fine but as soon as they put a ring on it things get more difficult. I'd rather have a soulmate/ life companion than a spouse.

  • @TiffanyRayneOfficial
    @TiffanyRayneOfficial 7 ปีที่แล้ว +367

    It's not unnatural. People just don't want to exercise self control or put fourth any effort. You don't run at the first sign of trouble. And like Loni said, people don't take commitment seriously. And I just said the same thing Adreinne said yesterday. Free Will, self control, You don't have to give in to every temptation or urge you feel.

      If it's not unnatural, I wonder why so many men and women are out here cheating on their significant others and spouses?
      If it's not unnatural, there would be a greater percentage of people who are faithful than unfaithful. And that's not the case.
      I laugh when people say this society is "monogamous," but we too many people out here with kids from different mothers and fathers, cheating, two-timing, and all this other nonsense.
      So you have to question it. If people aren't inclined to innately exercise self control, is it *really* all that natural?
      Monogamy would be nice in a perfect world. But too many people are juggling multiple partners for me to believe it's "natural."

    • @TiffanyRayneOfficial
      @TiffanyRayneOfficial 7 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      +shinyjewelsz Simple, they don't exercise their free will (self control). It's very much a choice for you to step outside of your relationship or not. Those that do, either didn't care or respect the union from the start, or they let the weaker half of their temptations get to them. But ultimately it's your decision to walk away or let yourself fall into those circumstances. Me personally, I wouldn't. It's way too dangerous these days.

    • @indiblues9044
      @indiblues9044 7 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      shinyjewelsz It may have something to do with selfishness and lack of self control. If you make a commitment to be monagmous then you should do everything in your power to honor it. If you agree to be in an open relationship then the same goes. Folks out here lack integrity and are all about instant gratification.

    • @eventplanner461
      @eventplanner461 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      shinyjewelsz How do you know it's not the case? Yeah a lot of people cheat, and a lot of people are unfaithful, but there's no way of knowing whether or not there are more unfaithful people than there are faithful. Just like how there's no real way of knowing if there's more good people than bad. Even so, the majority of time when people cheat or have multiple partners that their significant other knows about they find themselves in harmful, unstable, dangerous situations. (STDS, Too many babies from different spouses, ect.) so that alone tells u the real problem here.
      These ideals that because something calls for a lot of self control or energy automatically makes it unnatural is honestly ridiculous. With this logic I guess not drinking excessive amounts of alcohol is unnatural, because so many people out there lack control, morals, and struggle with addiction. I could give u a list of so many other scenarios, but this comment is already as long as it is, which is why u shouldn't focus on what society is doing, but what it should be doing.

    *Oh hail nah, Scarletttt!*
    First of all, monogamy isn't a question about whether or not it's natural. It's a CHOICE, Scarlett!! You perform marriage because you VOW to uphold the values you and your partner choose. If you want an open marriage, then so be it, that's fine and that's some people's preference. But don't confuse cheating as an excuse that monogamy/loyalty is "not natural." Some people, if not almost all, cherish loyalty.

The concept of monogamy in this world is a relatively new idea and initially, polygamy was natural in humans centuries ago. I think it is not in the natural state for humans to stay with one person but they choose to do so and resist urges to be unfaithful. Marriage takes work, determination and effort. Because of family or financial,etc. They aren't relationship goals just because they're married. You never know the situation. Some stay because of abuse. Religion also keeps them in fear to leave.

    Coming from a single person who believes in monogamy, I needed to see this. It's hard out here for people who want monogamous relationships, because it often feels like we're a dying breed. But I guess at the end of the day whatever works for you is what you should do. And if you don't want to be in a monogamous relationship or don't feel it's "natural" for you then don't trick somebody into falling in love and being committed to you when you know you won't be able to give them the same amount of loyalty.

    I feel like she is saying that because either she has cheated or been cheated on. I don't think people cheating proves monogamy is unnatural. I think it proves they valued instant gratification over their relationship and/or partner's feelings. Heck, I crave junk food constantly, does that mean it's natural to only eat that? No.

  • @lisalee7308
    @lisalee7308 7 ปีที่แล้ว +18

    I think when Scarlett use the word "unnatural" it wasn't the best word to explain what she meant. I think the right word is "unrealistic" and the statement should go like this..."It's "unrealistic" to think that marriages will remain monogamous" because at some point one partner IS GOING to cheat".... If I might add, it's mostly the men that have wondering eyes which leads to adultery, and this is why I'm hesitant myself to remarry... I'm 100% loyal but I can't say the same about men...Sure, Loni is right that many couples will raise their hands that they've been married for a long time, but this question should follow..."Is there any time in the marriage that there has been infidelity?'" And if people really, really give an honest answer, the answer will be YES.

    I'm jealous, don't like sharing, and I'm loyal till I die. I am monogamous and can't see myself juggling and entertain more than one person unless I'm single and want to do me. Monogamy isn't for everybody and you can't mix a cheater with a monogamous person thinking yall gonna last. The men in my family, especially my uncles, were low down dirty trifling husband's who cheated throughout there marriage( they still married). If I had the same personality trait like them and was selfish, couldn't see myself fucking one person my whole life, and my 🍑 belonged to everybody. Then I would live an honest polygamous life. Or an open relationship and live in your truth and stop dragging loyal ppl in your bs .

    Please! Having multiple partners is actually the reason for numerous STDs. There are even new ones being discovered that have been found to be resistant to antibiotics. Even certain cancers are linked to having multiple partners and sexual relations outside of one's marriage. Being monogamous is better for our health. We thrive as a species when we're monogamous and procreate with one partner.

      To me it becomes the ultimate comedy with the level of preaching about monogamy and how high monogamy was put on some pedestal, when in reality every other person deals with cheating. The amount of divorces proves it otherwise, just in US it is what 50 % divorce rate? If monogamy was that natural then it would come naturally, you wouldn't really have to work so hard on it. And I am not even a polygamous type of person.

    I don't believe in monogamy. I believe in everyone having their individual life journeys. We're here to help, influence and encourage the next person's journey, but we're not supposed to BE that person's journey. We have our own journeys to travel and, sometimes (most times), my journey isn't aligned with yours. Therefore, we need to separate and find the next soul that can help us through the next phase. Of course, don't cheat and hurt people... but gracefully part. Not being married facilitates a graceful departure much more than divorce.

    So if i may be scientific for a sec, less than 5% of mammals are known to be sexually monogamous (and even that number is asterixed). Also being sexually monogamous (having one sexual partner for life) and being socially monogamous (eg Tam's example of keeping the same stylist etc). So yes it isn't by "nature" that we western humans chose to be monogamous but by CHOICE. To me this "choice" is the most romantic bit of it all :)

    I agree with Loni. There is way too much pressure on people being in relationships. So much pressure that people aren't ready or they're looking to someone else for happiness. Find that happiness inside of you. Also, I don't believe that monogamy is natural. Marriage/the idea of having a life partner is not natural either, but it can work for certain people. But why put someone through if you can't stay monogamous and cheat anyway?

HOWEVER, if you do decide to get married you must be willing to commit to that person and uphold your vows. Or at least set boundaries for an open relationship. I believe and value loyalty, love, and commitment. As most people do. But no, it is not natural for us to be monogamous.

    I hate topics like this because the situation is never black and white, and people try to solve it with one solution. Its plenty of ways to argue that polygamy is natural and monogamy is not and vice versa. I try to stay open minded and it really depends on the people. For example, most people would get jealous and have their emotions tied into the relationships and other times they just won't care. I wouldn't judge either.

    Adrienne you sound like such a hypocrite. Your new man dropped his wife and cheated with you. You've got some nerve. You should have stood up and walked out for this segment or just been honest.

      re2dance they have both said he didn't cheat with Adrienne. It was someone else that he got pregnant (twice?) and then after he split with his wife he dated Adrienne.

    We need new perspectives on this show. Marriage is a social construct, most other mammals are not monogamous. Second of all there is a reason why the lovey Dovey phase of relationships only lasts 3-6 months (it's called hormones)- they help us procreate not force each other into 60year monogamous vows. friendship and attachment is what keeps long marriages together- that's natural, instinctively humans survive better in pairs or groups.thats why parents don't abandon their newborns (in most cases)-it's all hormones. Though I would probably want to get married one day, I actually agree with Scarlett, marriage is quite unnatural

      i din't say it wasn't for me. i said i would want to get married... my opinion still holds, biologically speaking, i find it unnatural.

      Well I hate when people compare it to animals. Yes they are not monogamous. Ok I get it, were somewhat related to them in a way. But for humans it's a different ball game. I look at men and women too....that got babies/partners with multiple people. My point is I look at what they have to go through to keep the family/relationships together, a whole bunch of drama and headaches. Even though you can have those problems with one person but multiple people, It's too much. Someone wants to spend more time than the other, your children parents are feuding with one another, children getting upset because they feel unwanted, someone spreads a disease, someone gets jealous, crazy etc. it's so much drama involved when you're not monogamous.

      Clodia Frazil Clodia Frazil yes. Agree 100%. The marriage part (socially constructed)is the unnatural part for me. I never said being monogamous was not...like you said there are other species that chose mates for procreation only, and as Humans we chose our mates based on other traits. This is arguable though, I think if you look closely you'll see that "all other traits" like financial security, good looks, education, warm personalities etc is this same as asking will this person be a good partner to procreate with (evolutionarily anyways). Yes we are not animals like all other animals (we are obviously special snowflakes), times have changed but the nature of things has not. Your comment was insightful though

      Chiamaka saying marriage is natural because it's a choice is like saying seeing people based on their skin colour is natural because it's something we chose to do. Believe it or not there was a time when there was no marriage- just because we have lived with a concept for a long time doesn't mean it's inherent in our nature.

    You can train your heart not to view other people as attractive, I know it sounds like a fantasy but that's because the media shades it that way. Once you can reach that place in your relationship you get to experience what God intended for marriage. Of course you can always wander from what you built, it is work to maintain this kind of integrity but it is completely worth it!

    I agree with Loni I think when people speak in a negative way about marriage it's coming from a place of hurt. Saying it's 'unnatural' to be with just one person seems a crazy statement to make because for lots of us the idea of being with more than one person is unnatural. I know for me the only man I've ever wanted and will ever want to be with is my husband. It may sound like such a corny cliche, but it's so important to marry the RIGHT person, someone that's not just your partner and your lover but also your best friend because when you find that one person they will be all you'll ever want and need. The best type of relationship to be in is with someone that is faithful and loyal to you and makes you feel loved 💖💖💖

    Technically she's right because we are supposed to reproduce not be with one person forever, and being married is a cultural thing that society tells us is normal, but with that being said I want to be somebody's wife one day and sty with them until the day I die

    It's all about honesty. My partner and I have an EXTREMELY open port for communication in our relationship. We love each other dearly but sometimes we may see someone that is attractive and we point them out to one another. In the beginning we attempted polygamy but it just did NOT work for us. Sometimes the temptation is there if I'm honest about that but that stems from curiosity as mentioned by Adrienne. Do we act on it? Absolutely not but we do talk about it with one another.

    SON why is everyone so upset at Adrienne, if what y'all say really happened then it takes two to tango. She's barely even at fault. If he felt like he loved Adrienne more and needed to spend the rest of his life with her then so be it. If it wasn't meant to happen then it wouldn't of happened.

      MMah Cisse You
      He'll cheat on Adrienne just like he did his first wife. He had no respect for the first vows he took don't expect him to have respect the second go around. Ask tori spelling...that behaviour won't change just because you traded ur wife in for a newer model.

    • @theechubbyone
      @theechubbyone 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      MMah Cisse 99.9% of people cheat as a way of showing they don't care or respect the person they're with. People make mistakes, he and his previous wife TRIED to work through his betrayal. Adrienne has been cheated on and cheated herself, is she incapable of making a relationship work?

      Like Ne Ne says, "Close your legs to married men." Barely her fault? Please. I like Adrienne. She seems so sweet. And I'm not sopose to judge. But it does take two, is my point. Just know the pain that the wife is gonna feel is a pain you will eventually feel. Karma.
