This is a reupload; a commenter mentioned I forgot to add the section about making your Tailscale VM an exit node. I have spliced that part in and updated the site with instructions on how to do this. So here you go, the complete proper way to set up Tailscale and remote access ALL your VMs on your local home network!
@@yousaf.saleem You can use a LXC container if you want. I ran into issues with LXC containers and the rules that control them to make Tailscale work properly. Also the downside of a container is you cannot do live migration or failover live to other nodes within Proxmox. The built in container for Tailscale on Trunas works amazing though!
Thanks for the update! I needed to add the exit node and routing to get to a machine in my home lab that didn't support TailScale directly. Good stuff and one more sub for you!
You are welcome! Yeah, idk how I left that part out but I am glad I got it fixed before someone trusted me, went over seas and then realized they couldn't backup their trip pictures well away! Like I said, I am so sad to this day that I have no pictures of my honeymoon due to a water damaged phone!
@@learntohomelab ya I’m atm trying to deploy headscale also you can have as many users and devices on headscale tailscale caps you at 3 users if I remember

@@learntohomelab why you want to deploy a full VM just for tailsscale, which can be run in a already running container too

@@learntohomelab I didn't try the live migrations but that is valid point.
@@yousaf.saleem Yeah, all things to consider and as part of the course where we will go over migrations I am trying to stick most services to a VM.

Also make a video on Netbird too. I am happy tailsscale user but love the concept of open source Netbird too
NetBird looks super cool, I have never heard of it! Adding it to the list!
Tbh just use headscale it uses tailscale apps but keeps it completely open source and self hosted
Yeah, that makes sense. I mean at the end of the day, Tailscale uses Wire guard too which is open source.

@@InsaiyanTech Just read into that one, that looks awesome! Another piece of software I have not heard of yet!
