R-NineT Scrambler Ep. 4 | Making a seat prototype out of clay

- This is the 4. video about the construction of a BMW R-NineT Scrambler, on which I developed some production parts.
In this episode I build a prototype of the seat from automotive clay, this prototype is needed to make a master mold that will later be used to make the foam for the production seat.
I use automotive clay here because it can be shaped optimally, is reusable, and can be processed quickly. In addition, it does not make any dirt during processing.

The final vehicle will be built with my friends at classicbike-ra..., who I've worked with for a long time, but who are also good friends.
They will use the R-NineT as a demo bike, and maybe you will see it at an event in Germany or Europe.

It will be interesting to see where you are going with this as I would have simply glued memory foam to the seat pan and shaped the foam as you shaped the clay to achieve a ready to upholster seat.
Personally, I would have included a pocketed crotch portion with a raised rear portion to cushion the tail bone rather than a completely flat seat, but that is all based upon preference I guess. You do have a nice clay mold to do something with though, that is for sure.

what are these placeholder-rivets from, that you use in the beginning? beautiful workspace and outstanding fine works , really like that...you´re german, right?
These placeholder-rivets are called „Cleco“.
They are widely used in the manufacture and repair of aluminum-skinned aircrafts.
By heck that looked like the hard way round, I did the same but with a stiff foam that could be sanded.much easier than with clay .and you end up with the same outcome.
Yeah I keep wondering why he did this in clay too. Maybe he's making a mold for something ("spray" foam?), and clay works better for that? Otherwise people usually do this with the intended material straight away.
Same Here. Wondering why he uses clay instread of foam. I guess we will find Out :D
If he is going to make more than one, he can have that clay turned into model and have the foam cut by cnc machines

Since he had already build a whole batch of Seat underrail (whatever you call them) , a Jig for the Carbon Seat Tray he need to build the Foampart in a series too.

Its just paint to prevent the part from rusting pretty sure the guy who once sprayed it - knows how to do it again..
