Fun fact: back in the days before TV and radio was the only way to listen to football the pitch was divided into sections and when the ball went back to the Keeper the commentators would say “Back to square one” this is where the saying comes from

Potter couldn't deal with the spotlight from the Chelsea job, no way he will cope with the England pressure

Agreed. Potter struggles with big egos too. Best of the English candidates is easily Howe. He has to be their first choice if they're insistent on an English coach x

You have to be fair to Southgate. He got us to the final just playing 10 men for every game. Let's be honest. HK didn't show up to the whole competition

Below par for sure and clearly had some fitness issues. However, a sign of a good striker is contributing whilst out of form and being joint top scorer of the tournament completely contradicts your statement

Crouchy echoing my own thoughts that our previous golden generation was against stronger competition.
I think the difference back then was that fitness and tactics weren't as prioritised so you could get by on natural ability, you'd see players, especially the Brazilians not take fitness seriously but obviously the best footballers. Nowadays, everyone is an athlete and actual individual skill can't get you as far, you need everything England had all the talent but none of the team work or tactics, I feel like this is why we got nullified by a few teams like Denmark, Serbia and so on. They made tactical changes to nullify our threats.

Ok this is something I've never seen get actually discussed properly and I've never understood the logic behind....
International football is supposed to be the best the country has to offer, so the best players and the best manager...but for some reason the managers come from different countries???
    Makes 0 sense.
Firstly it means that managers in that country have a chance of being the manager if they can get to be the best Spanish manager for Spain etc.
Secondly, it seems odd and a bit of a conflict of interest if for example if it's an Italian manager managing Germany, playing against Italy in a huge match.
The German manager should be German,
The English manager should be English,
The Brazilian manager should be Brazilian etc
    Why isn't this the case?
