Ok Al, glad you asked for input on the sheep. We have had several breeds of sheep on the ranch both here in Texas and back in California. For a nice big beefy butcher lamb it is hard to beat a Suffolk BUT you have to shear them. If they are out in wooded area they get things caught in the wool. Where you are at the wool keeps em warm. We have let our line of wool sheep go and only have a few cross breeds left and are not breeding them. Instead we have gone with a nice heavy bodied Dorper. They also average out to more lamb's in a year and are easier to handle than some woolies. We are real happy with ones we have and the meat is delish. Best yet, no shearing! I like the looks of the black headed Dorper. Check it out for yourself. One more tip, buy your ewes open(not breed) Lambs can have a high death rate when they are taken to new soil with new parasites. We found out the hard way on that one. Sheep need to be parasite resistant or you are fighting a constant heartbreaking battle. You have lots of land and that is key with sheep and rotating grazing. Research your area and talk to local ranchers. Good luck. We will always have sheep we love em so much. Good simple living has babydolls and she may have more wisdom than us. As always, praying for many blessings for y'all and ❤ from Austin Texas
I am a Dutch woman of 71 years and live in Hungary for 12 years. There I started keeping Racka sheep. A small, tough old Hungarian breed that was almost extinct in the 1970's. The Racka has beautiful twisted horns (up to 1 meter long!) And pipe curls to the ground. She is elegant and one of the few sheep who defends the lambs. They lamb only once a year and usually only have 1 lamb, 15% is twins. They lambs very easily by nature, do not need any help and can tolerate -20 degrees Celsius! (-4 fahrenheid) We left the whole year the ram with the everlings because they defend the herd verry well! The meat does not have a typical mutton flavor, but rather a light gamey flavor. A great breed that rarely requires a vet! Good luck with your choice!
just a wonderful visit! i am learning so much about goats! really!. My grandson's wife has been after us to move somewhere where we can keep goats, (so she can come and pet them). i have instructed here to start watching so she can lean what she is asking of us! You take such good care of your animals, it is really wonderful. I did not know that you had to do hoof care, It makes sense, i just had not thought about it. Al, that is a LOT of water! wow! i do hope that camera survived. Who knew that your adventure would include beaver trapping! good hunting! Gina, I had my wife watch your version of breakfast. hers is a bit different, but she may try yours. thanks!
Hey Al, my kids and I love your channel. Not sure if someone has posted on their sheep since I do not typically read comments. My son insisted that I let you know what we raise. We live in the Berkshires of Massachusetts and have been raising Katahdin sheep for several years. They are so easy to keep, shed their coats in the spring, and are very hardy in the winter. The last component with them is that their meat is AMAZING. Hope this helps.
That’s pretty neat how you file the hooves. I’ve seen others actually clip them. It makes me afraid they will cut into a tender spot on the goat’s feet. You always have a genius way of doing things. Like when you smoothed out that cast iron pizza pan! That pizza just slid around on that pan surface without a single sticky place. You fixed that NEW cast iron!
There is nothing wrong with clipping them, you just need to pay attention and not clip the hoof wall or heel below the sole. You can even see Al clipping the boys before finishing off with the grinder.
I'm so proud of Hope she's really come a long way from a timid picked on little goat to a take control mind of her own beautiful goat but all of your goats are beautiful, smart and a joy to watch.
I posted this on Good Simple Living's channel, but I don't know if they saw it or not. There is a really great song by Bill Morrisey (RIP) who spent much of his time in New Hampshire. The song is called "Birches" and in my opinion, lyrically, it's the perfect song. His voice might be an acquired taste for lots of people -- I loved him from the first time I heard him -- but that song is extraordinary. I hope you'll look it up here on YT, and follow that one with "Handsome Molly." What you had to say at 01:23 about the birch log you put in the woodstove brought him to mind immediately. I think you'll appreciate the song.
Regarding which kind of sheep... again, back to Good Simple Living: I'd love to see you get some Baby Doll sheep like the ones they have. They're extremely good in cold weather, the only problem that I could see is that they're adorable. It would be awfully hard to eat any of them and you'd just wind up with another herd of pets.

Hey Al, On the beaver dam, need the side by side or a winch with rope and grafford to pull the dam apart. Can also use a winch for more things. Amazon has all this stuff. That's where I can all our stuff to clean up our pond.
I am a yoke person. The only time I eat scrambled is when that is all there is. Love your new property. You are making it easy on the beav ers though. by tossing the dam parts right next to it. NYDOT dug a dam out and left it in a pile. The next week when I went by it was totally rebuilt. The water level was almost over the road again. Next time I came by NYDOT had dug it out and took it away. I don't know if the beavers got trapped butg the dam never returned. Keep up the good work.

It was working just fine when you had the trap where it was along side the dam. You'all keep up the great work, and keep the faith. Karl
We are in Massachusetts and have Soay Sheep. I decided to get this breed because they are extremely hardy, low maintenance, and eat a variety of plants (grass, broad leaf weeds, poison ivy, etc....). These are not big sheep 50 to 60 pounds. My primary reason for getting these sheep was to help clear land and rejuvenate my soil while rotational grazing them. Also if your planning to have the sheep for meat I'm told they taste like really good venison. Anyways sheep are awesome and there is so many breeds. Good luck!
Have a look at 'Smoky Mountain Outpost' - he has a Kubota which he has welded a couple of 'spikes' on the top of the scoop - makes it really easy for moving downed trees - you may find it very useful on the new property.

1st time guessing with you how many eggs...I got 7! lol...enjoyed the video. Am really learning a lot about goats. A childhood friend of mine 45 years ago had one in an urban area. She stunk, that's all I remember about her. Your goats really have personality, I love the way you respect them and I suspect they have a real attachment to you all!
Love that hoof trimming tool. I have a wish bone shape scar on my lower left thumb knuckle from using a grass clipper to trim the goats hoof with. One tug of the leg, snip a permanent reminder.
I don't know if it works for goats, but with dogs I found inexpensive concrete pavers do a great job of trimming nails. You'd have to lay them in an area they are always going to walk across, so maybe about 4 feet out in front of their barn door where you have rocks now. I'd just push the pavers into the dirt and then put the rock back on top.
That warm spell you had, is our way in Nova Scotia today. Perfect post and beam weather! I love birch, and when it’s dry, it kicks the wood furnace off fast!
Dinner looks yummy. I like scrambled eggs. So, what's the score now? Al 3, Beavers 3 ? Don't forget to plug the game camera card into your computer so we can see, too! And sheep: it depends on what you want them for. Meat, wool, milk for making cheese, or income from selling off lambs? I think the babydoll sheep that the Souzas have on Good Simple Living are the cutest!
My boys used to pee on their bunks also, until I quit putting shavings on their bunks. I read where they do not like peeing on hard surfaces! Worked for me, maybe give it a try!
A breed of sheep that I haven't seen mentioned is California Reds. They're actually a multi purpose breed, for wool, meat, and milk. They're really distinctive, the babies are born a deep cinnamon color, and their hair stays red (anywhere from strawberry blonde all the way to cinnamon) while the wool comes in a soft creamy oatmeal color. It's supposed to be nice and soft and is popular with hand spinners, and has a unique trait in that there are red hairs interspersed with the wool, which gives it a tweed look. The hairs take up dye faster than the wool, too, so the look stays even when dyed. Possibly most importantly, they're naturally polled and are supposed to be very sensible as far as sheep go, with the ewes making good mothers that rarely need help birthing. Less important but still cool, the rams grow a red mane and look kinda like lions.
How often do you have to trim their hooves? You can tell the ones who have gotten used to having that done. Good to have that task done I’m sure! Looking forward to seeing some babies in the spring!
A good standby dinner using just about the same things that you’re using in this meal is called “keduree”. It is made using rice in place of the potatoes. The scrambled egg mix is then added to the fried bacon and sausage and poured all together in one pot or rather pan. Are used to use a large cast-iron skillet. Check the recipe on Google and you’ll get some great ideas. I always serve some form of homemade biscuits rolled out and cinnamon sugar put on the dough roll it up, cabinet in about 1 inch thick circles slicing the dough across the length of the rolled up though. You can add more or or less sugar, more or less than a month,. And that’s quite quick and easy to add to a keuree! This way of cooking is a very old style recipe from England, I guess it goes even way back in English history. That’s the luck and let me know if you want to try it so I’ll be sure not to miss it!
4th of Juy....I have been watching your shows a day and catching up! I've done everything to canning, making sausage, cooking, eating....;Love your shows
I loved watching the goat's spa day. Hope will always be my fav so her babies will be extra special to me. Your breakfast supper looked so delish, I like my eggs scrambled or over easy. Hope your Thanksgiving was good. Take care:)
Im with you Al Yolks all the way mmm. The fact that not a single one of the goats had a panic attack over the hoof trimmer just shows how much trust they have for you guys and is proof of how well you guys do taking care of them
Texel and Dorset sheep are the best for meat, also Hampshire and Suffolk, while merino, rambouillet, blue faced Leicester and corriedale are the best for wool. Lacuna are excellent for cheese. Awassi is good for dairy and very gentle.
There's a car window fluid that makes the surface more hydrophobic causing water droplets to appear more as tiny beads of water instead of big smeared blobs You should use some on your cam
I love yolks! I make my eggs over easy and either put them on toast or I cut around the yolk and eat the whites separate and then pop the yolk in my mouth. Super rich
Hope will be always Al’s “goat girl” the amount of time Al you did spent with her since she came to Lamnah acres she does look @ you as her favourite daddy .... 😊👍❤️ Love “the nail parlour treatment” to go to see the “boys” ❤️👍👏🏻😊

Nice pedicure job. I grew up on a farm, when the billy goats had their breeding season, it was always a smelly time. Watching your videos alway brings back memories. 👍😊
Can’t wait to see hope’s babies. Little P does like the ideal, but I think she will come though it. Those beavers are making you work for it. You got to think ahead of them (how I don’t know?) but I know you Al you’ll think of it.....
Girls went to the Spa then on a date. Gina was afraid that she might get something a little to risky on film and turned camera away. Hey its all part of homesteading life. Your trailcam may show fish today. Love breakfast meal for supper. Good luck with the girls and boys
When you took the side by side into the field I thought you were going to grab the goats rest place for the property. And surprise, you moved the feeder closer for the winter months. Yea...less snow to go through. I hope the goats breed this time so we have baby goats come spring. That will be something special to look forward to. Bacon, hash browns and scrambled eggs for me. Have a Blessed day.
Al, What are you planning on using the sheep for? There are a lot of breeds, some have really good milk, some really good meat, some really good wool, or some are multi-purpose. And may I suggest a sheep farmer on youtube for you? Sandi Brock has a channel allll about being a sheep farmer.
Hey Al, good simple living has on their channel the cutest baby doll sheeps. I think they will go very well with your goats. I can just see Olivia playing with them as she do the goats. Please take a look at them
When you dig up a bunch of Boulders in that field do yourself a favor stack them up in one corner of their pain and as they climb on the boulders it will trim their hoods for you
Good Mornin Lumnah's. I have been very fortunate breeding my goats. When I notice them in heat I put them in with the buck for a day or two and then take them out, and they have all taken. But, I do a flush ration 2 weeks or so ,give or take, before hand. Seems to really make a difference. Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving.
Hot coffee and goat milk, how I start my day. Love it! You might consider adding the does as they come in heat and leaving them with the buck. The herd setting may help them settle and also not feel abandoned from their herdmates. Some goats are only in for an hour or so and I missed some of the early heats. So my buck Lakota is in with all of his ladies. You could also leave Little man in with the doelings and other does. It might give you an alert as they come in. Think Pink! Blessings!
Goooooood Mawnin. It's a little odd how there's always someone in the comments that makes up something about y'all and then criticizes y'all for it. 99% of the comments are positive and uplifting but there's always that one that seems to need a hug.
like the video. when i was about 9 or 10 i use to milk 3 goats in the morning before i went to school. goats milk good for ulcers, if want to try to cook bacon this way. get a pan put foil in the pan set the oven 400 deg, lay out the bacon on the foil cook for about 15 to 20 min. i think you like it. i like the goats and dogs the cat. leave a note for the beaver not to come back no more dam ha ha ha, love the family of love,

If I'm remembering correctly, you did great w trapping the beavers when you had placed the trap to the side of the opening in the dam... think w it right in the opening, the sticks the beaver put in the opening will get into and spring the trap before the beaver itself is in the trap.

Hi al and Gina and Olivia just saying hi and thanks 👍👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
If you don't want wool, I would go with a hair sheep variety. Katahdin or Dorpar are good choices. Also, hair sheep have a milder taste. They don't have the heavy oil glands that wool sheep have.
My cousin lives up there and his family raised sheep and showed them for years. His name is Glen Brooks. Maybe he could help you and be a mentor for you. His sister Shari works at the Police Station.
How often do you trim the goats feet? The goats are colored beautifully. Hey! tag teaming and being able to go around all of the sides for the boys looks a lot easier. I think that is the way to go. When I eat eggs they are scrambled. The hash looks good. We eat breakfast for supper sometimes too.
Over at Swedish Homestead they just added Southdown Sheep. They are small and compact breed raised for meat. They are where the Babydoll sheep came from. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southdown_sheep I hope the girls dates are successful. I have a friend's buck here now trying to breed my doe. Fingers crossed! I am definitely a yolk person, love a warm runny yolk! Blessings to all.

That’s an old one. 😆
A few weeks ago I had a few old vids come up too (around 3 years ago). It means the algorithm likes your channel.
frill shows the algorithm has good taste as well 😃😂
Love that hoof trimming tool. I have a wish bone shape scar on my lower left thumb knuckle from using a grass clipper to trim the goats hoof with. One tug of the leg, snip a permanent reminder.
Hope and little P will be cute little mommas! Can't wait to see the adorable wee ones!
4:30. Looking forward to seeing ALL the “spring babies”. All kids are so cute and lovable when they are small.
They sure are...i want goats..but closest I will get ..is Here lol
I don't know if it works for goats, but with dogs I found inexpensive concrete pavers do a great job of trimming nails. You'd have to lay them in an area they are always going to walk across, so maybe about 4 feet out in front of their barn door where you have rocks now. I'd just push the pavers into the dirt and then put the rock back on top.
I enjoy following your chores. Thanks for sharing.
Thomas
That warm spell you had, is our way in Nova Scotia today. Perfect post and beam weather!
I love birch, and when it’s dry, it kicks the wood furnace off fast!
Dinner looks yummy. I like scrambled eggs. So, what's the score now? Al 3, Beavers 3 ? Don't forget to plug the game camera card into your computer so we can see, too! And sheep: it depends on what you want them for. Meat, wool, milk for making cheese, or income from selling off lambs? I think the babydoll sheep that the Souzas have on Good Simple Living are the cutest!
Another great adventure on the homestead! Five days a week, I start my day with coffee and your latest video. Thank you for doing all that you do!!!
Ditto! A wonderful way to start the day!
Agree thanks to them...all!!!!!
I've done everything to canning, making sausage, cooking, eating....;Love your shows
We put mayo on top of out potatoes, eggs, and bacon. Then cut it all up and blend well with fork. Eat and enjoy.
The fact that not a single one of the goats had a panic attack over the hoof trimmer just shows how much trust they have for you guys and is proof of how well you guys do taking care of them
I liked seeing you do more of the chores. I always like whatever you all share with us. I like my eggs over easy with fried bologna and toast
Eggs? Over easy, salt n pepper before the flip , a shot of oil on top of salt n pepper. If I feel fancy , maybe a little onion powder with the salt n pepper. Cooked whites , runny yolks.
Jamaica 🇯🇲 here blessings to you and your family belated thanksgiving I just love 💕 your all commitment to the home stead praying that all you and the family enjoy the rewards of your labor
OH please get Baby Doll Sheep. They do great in very cold climate. They are adorable and look like they are smiling. I can see Olivia loving them now!
Good Morning! Glad everybody got spruced up for their dates. I hope the dates are fruitful. Those beavers are sure being pests. Hope you can get a handle on it, so it doesn’t take much of your time. You’ve got other things to do. Blessings, Love & Hugs from Vicki in Ft. Worth, Texas 🇺🇸👍❤️🥰🙏🙏
Hi Al and Gina...still harding working... Battle of beaver dam, looks like a mini version of the China Three Gorges rushing water. Properties must be close. Thank you so much!
I was watching one of your videos from last winter and you were feeding meal worms to the chicken and commenting how egg production was increasing. ❤🌅🌵😷
My favorite breeds of sheep are the Dorset, and Southdown, but if your interest is in a black wool then a Mercury Lincoln cross.
Look so good, I made hash browns and eggs for breakfast. Out of bacon though.
Im so glad you have finally moved the goats' feeding pen. Al, having fried eggs, wow, thats fab. Im English!
Good mauhnin Lumnah Acres! Good luck with the goats! Love babies!❤️
Please take a look at them
You never cease to amaze me, love the brushing is there hair soft 💚💙💚
I'm not a coffee drinker, but I love watching people share their coffee routines. It's a nice, peaceful morning ritual.
Good morning. That Al dose it all. He is a man of many talents. Love this family.😀
We feel he sure is and the whole family is...so.mucg more up their sleeve we feel..lol not to mention maybe ice skating on the pond..
Thanks. There always is. 😆
Oh, wow, all the snow's gone! Well, have a joyous weekend, guys! 👋😃
like the video. when i was about 9 or 10 i use to milk 3 goats in the morning before i went to school. goats milk good for ulcers, if want to try to cook bacon this way. get a pan put foil in the pan set the oven 400 deg, lay out the bacon on the foil cook for about 15 to 20 min. i think you like it. i like the goats and dogs the cat. leave a note for the beaver not to come back no more dam ha ha ha, love the family of love,
I love the runny yoke all in my hash 😉😁 Plus it gives you something to clean off your plate with toast 😀😀😀😀😀
Suffolk sheep ,a good Meat Breed ,Hampshire sheep and Dorset sheep. South Down (Babydoll) are a good meat Sheep, all grow nice thick fleeces, good luck on your choices. watching from the UK
Happy Thanksgiving Lumnah Family !! Love all your videos. Thank you.
These goats are really getting a post Thanksgiving treat. Thank you Al and Gina 😊😊😊
Love the goats and chores. Not so much about the other land. Hopefully with better weather it will be more interesting.
wow! I didn't know you could use a grinder on the hooves. I have only seen hooves being trimmed with the clippers.
Love that i can start my morning with seeing the goat. Love see goat babies. Enjoy watching from northern central West Virginia
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I Love you all so much Lumnah Acres Family I can't wait to see baby goats on your farm also when you were collecting the eggs you asked how many do I think is in there & I was guessing 7 eggs OMG LOL I didn't think I was going to be right 🙂 I hope you & your family had a Happy Thanksgiving & I hope you're having a wonderful day today take care & be safe lot's of love always Al Gina & Olivia ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I suggest using used long cross country skis under your goat feeder. Should help the Mule with wear and tear.
Babydoll Southdown Sheep are so cute! Valaise Blacknose are adorable too, but they are a newer breed.
U know in the winter months, if u put a light in there chicken coop, it helps bring the egg production more, just FYI
I liked the music on this one. Its nice to hear you changing it up. Bravo! Hope your family enjoyed your Thanksgiving.
They are where the Babydoll sheep came from. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southdown_sheep
I hope the girls dates are successful. I have a friend's buck here now trying to breed my doe. Fingers crossed!
I am definitely a yolk person, love a warm runny yolk!
Blessings to all.
Al, have you ever tried adding cayenne pepper to the chickens food in colder months? It's suppose to warm up the chickens and boost egg production.
Nice that the girls goats are good at the milk stand, to funny....Have a great day out there. My suggestion is talk to Greg Judy or someone that has experience on sheep, because you want to get the right breed for your area. Love goats and sheep.
Good morning Al,Gina and Olivia. Hopefully you had a great Thanksgiving yesterday. Watching from Jamaica as usual. Thanks again for another adventurous video ☺️☺️☺️
