Thank you for another wonderful video Emmy and Paul!! Lancaster County looks absolutely gorgeous and peaceful, I'd love to visit there someday. My food tip is always to just freeze everything. So, so much can be frozen and used for later. I'm constantly surprised on what I can freeze and learning to how to use every piece of food I can! Using parts for a veggie or chicken stock, cutting up herbs and putting them in ice cube trays for later simple use. We buy bulk what is on sale and freeze, freeze, freeze!

My two most useful items that I bought/invested in many years ago are: simple microwave and a standing freezer that is not connected to my fridge.
Why? Because due to some of my health difficulties, I have been blessed by a few friends w have large families that they have found that not always can they use all of their leftovers for another meal for themselves. They used to throw food out in the garbage. But once they realized my difficulties in my preparing my own food (cutting certain vegetables I find too difficult), these friends decided to save the leftovers for me by freezing in sandwich baggies or the next size up in baggies on the shelves in the store in Israel.
When their freezer drawer that they designated for Mikimi is full, they usually arrange to bring me the Frozen food.
Hence, my need to own a standing freezer w drawers.
My friends also label the baggies so that I will know what is in the baggies. I am happy to usually not receive more containers as I have too many as it is.
I buy my own frozen veggies and I buy my tilapia fish when either or both are on sale.
Blessings, love and prayers for all, from Israel 🇮🇱. Peace for all on this Earth and in this World!

I buy ground beef in the family packs. Sometimes I go ahead and put it in the crock pot to cook, then divide it and freeze it. It makes for quick meals for sloppy Joe, chili, etc. I can often just pull it out of the freezer and put it in the pan. It defrosts quickly. I give it some time to brown up a little before adding other ingredients.

    • @terryhenderson424
      @terryhenderson424 4 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

Consider making a whole crockpot's worth taco meat, sloppy Joe mix, spaghetti sauce with meat, just plain seasoned meat, etc... Then freezing in meal sized packaging; don't forget to label well 'cause these items can all look the same. Lunch sized volumes or in some mix of lunch and meals too. It takes a while in terms of effort, time, and cost to make up what I call a convience stockpile which also works for freezer space and a natural rotation. Of course, if you come across a deal on hamburger or ground meat, sometimes its just as good to get into "prepper" mode. (Many moons ago we could get 8lb tubes of mixed and dark turkey meat for $.88/ lb which was good for even back then. When we came across 50% off tubes I altered my grocery shopping plans, scraped the coins in the bottom of the purse and car console, and bought a small as I could. Then I proceeded to begin a cooking marathon in part so I could get it into the freezer.)

My best frugal tip is to be ok with not keeping up with the Jones or the Frugalite Family down the street. Everyone is in their own unique place in life with different wants and needs, and it's ok that our journeys don't all look the same as everyone else's.

@@FrugalMoneySavermy husband and I both have arthritis in our hands and appreciate your squash cooking tips 👍. I used to microwave the squashes once I managed get them cut in half, but your tip is way better. Speaking of squash, I have found much versatility in using squash in baked goods like breads, scones, biscuits, cakes and cupcakes, as well as pancakes and waffles. Season them any way you like. Pumpkin is just a squash, after all, and does not necessarily need to be sweetened or spiced up. I find that all of the Fall squashes can be interchangeable in recipes both sweet or savory. So, yeah - they are economical, easily cooked, versatile, freeze well, rich in nutrients and fiber. It's a win-win in many ways. Thanks for making it even easier❣️👍🤗

Going to Lancaster must be two-fold for ya'll, you save money and you get to relax and enjoy the views. My prep tip:If I buy a bag of produce and I know I'm not going to use all of it right away (for example lemons) I will prep it for the freezer so I take a few lemons and I slice them and freeze them on a tray and then I put them in a ziplock bag and put them back in the freezer.
Then I'll take another couple of lemons and I'll juice them and freeze them in cubes (1 tablespoon each) and put them in ziploc bags. For things like onions and peppers I will slice some for one bag and chop some for another. Have a great week!

Yay to the winners! For me, bulk cooking common ingredients saves me time. I find that I rarely use a white or yellow onion fresh but definitely use them sautéed or caramelized. So when I buy onions I chop and cook them immediately. I take half out after they are translucent and the rest I let caramelize and then freeze portions for later. I do the same for ground beef cooking all of it and then some becomes sloppy joes, some tacos, some left plain. Then I freeze those as well. Ditto for chicken. Even though I’m a stay at home wife, I’ve found that by 4:00 pm I don’t want to start cooking dinner from raw ingredients but am more creative if the bulk of what we’re eating is already prepped. Also, and this is my weird little quirk: I just don’t like handling raw meat and chicken more than necessary.

I had a potato, a tomato that needed used, a half of a cooked cubed pork steak, a bag of frozen veggies (broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, etc.), and, of course, olive oil. I added seasoning (s&p, garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning) and a little butter. It was delicious. Thanks :)

If you have a bunch of cherry tomatoes, wash and put them in a shallow glass baking dish. Add 5-6 cloves (to taste) of cut garlic and a couple handfuls of fresh basil leaves. Crack black pepper over the top and add about 1/2" of good quality extra virgin olive oil. Cover with foil. Cook it low and slow, perhaps 300 degrees for 20-30 minutes. Let it cool and pour over pasta or add to a salad or cooked vegetables. Freeze small portions (about 1/2-1 cup) in freezer bags. Thaw and use during January-March for a lovely taste of summer.

One of my best frugal time saver is to bake batches of my signature chocolate chip cookies and freeze in airtight containers. These are ready for any occasion or guests or requests to bring my cookies by friends and family. Sometimes there’s a time crunch and it’s not feasible to bake at that time
The cookies are always fresh after thawing and no one has a clue that they were frozen. I also freeze cookie dough balls and then bake as needed.
I do this with other cookie recipes but my chocolate chip cookies are the ones everyone loves. Have even been asked to bake them for money but I would never do that. Takes the fun out of my love for baking. lol

Love the pictures of Lancaster county. When I purchase ground meat, I will cook it all and then separate and freeze into meal sized portions. Another way to precook the ground meat is to make sheet pan slider burgers - use your favorite ingredients for burgers, press into an even layer on a rimmed cookie sheet and bake for about 15 minutes. Once cooked, I allow the juices to be reabsorbed and then I slice it into squares. We have some for our meal and the rest are frozen, using wax paper sheets between the burgers.

My husband wanted to see the Big Boy steam engine but it wasn't coming close to San Antonio. He's seen it before and said it's a pretty neat thing to see for train lovers. Those are beautiful apples!! Love your little haul!

I take fresh green beans in crockpot add bacon cinnamon and little sugar. They are delicious and placed in single serving containers into the freezer.

The flowers are beautiful!! There is a gentleman who lives near the hospital I work at, and he grows dahlias and brings bouquets into the main lobby to greet you as you enter.

My most useful tip is I buy chicken legs with bones and skin when they are on sale. I prefer thighs but whole legs or drums work if they are cheaper. Usually it is a family pack and way more than we need for immediate use. I cook most of it in my electric pressure cooker with one and a half cups water. I let it naturally release pressure. Then I bone and skin and freeze in small portions. Freeze the cooking juice and use it as broth concentrate. I don't season the chicken so I can season it as I need to in my future recipes.

I so miss going to that area my best friends parents lived there for several years. Those butternut squash are going to be delicious! I loved finding the Amish or Mennonite farms where they had their little stands on the side of the road. I bet the flowers are beautiful due to the natural fertilizer :-)

Additional comment: I never thought to use my crockpot for squash even though I use the crockpot for potatoes, beets and sweet potatoes all the time. Genius! I love different squashes but get hives peeling, cutting or chopping it raw which is strange. Now we can eat squash again.

My best time and money saving tip regarding food won't work for folks who don't like leftovers or don't like eating the same meals on repeat. I like to make a huge batch of something - let's say chili - eat if for 4 or 5 meals through the week and freeze the leftovers. This is very economical and eliminates a lot of figuring out what's for lunch or supper. Have a blessed day.

I appreciate the idea with the frozen green beans and cooking the squash in the crockpot. Been flash freezing green peppers, chopped onions, celery and carrots for sometime to pullout for cooking and preserving it too. I will take any ideas to save.

I do that too. Sometimes combined together for instant frozen mire poix. Once in a while I toss in some chopped bell peppers too. I’ve got the knife out already; might as well package the veg up as conveniently as possible while I’m at it.

Fantastic price on those apples!! I will be trying that wonderful dinner you made and your way of cooking squash. Both look yummy!! Have a safe and blessed weekend. 🇺🇸💕🏜

I went to Greece a long time ago and one of the best things I ate was just green beans cooked in tomato sauce. I don't know what they put in it but it was great. Didn't have potatoes in it though. Also, the best meal ever is potatoes, tomatoes, red peppers, onion, a little garlic and salt, covered in olive oil and roasted in the oven.

My one daughter lives in Lancaster county so we get over that way often. How about the buggies on the road?! Emmie, I puree butternut squash and freeze it in one cup portions. Then I make pancakes with the puree. If the batter is too thick, I just add a little milk.
