I miss the adventurous moments in Disney tho.... Not that I didn't like the Disney Princess or whatsover, I like Disney's romantic movie such as Cinderella, etc. , but this adventurous and also a warmth of family touch movie, is something that Disney kind of lacking IMO

Does anyone else like how Jim didn’t have a love interest? I like the fact that the story was more focused on his character arch and his story, not some basic love story. This movie is quiet underrated, of course it isn’t perfect and there are a lot of things I wish they would have had time to do, but it is a great story that has a great message. This and Atlantis, most underrated movies ever.

    • @SpicePrincess1890
      @SpicePrincess1890 2 ปีที่แล้ว +32

That was one of the great things about the Experimental Era of Disney. Most of the main protagonists of the movies during this era didn't revolve around a love story and chasing romantic love. Lilo and Stitch, Brother Bear, Atlantis TLE, The Emperor's New Groove... even if they had a romantic subplot or romance between characters, it took a backseat to the main plot and real message of the story. But Treasure Planet is my favorite movie of all time, and one reason is because it not only focused just on his personal character arc, but because it focused on something Disney rarely ever does: the impact of losing a parent who willingly left. Leeland didn't die in battle or some tragic moment of tears. He just... walked out. He didn't want to be a dad, and abandoned his wife and child to travel. I think Jim is the only character in Disney history who had a parent willingly walk out on him and seeing Disney fully explore the effects it had on his personality and growth really made this movie something special.

But he did. That’s one of the most important things about this movie there is love but it’s not romantic. That’s what we need more of. All he wanted was a father figure and in the end he found one or her found him but that’s all the love he needed to change his live and find his purpose.

    • @deusdamnit
      @deusdamnit 6 ปีที่แล้ว

Really? The movie's only strong point was its animation.
Scenes were clumsy, pacing was rushed, the story left no time to really feel appreciation for the characters and their depth was forced. None of the characters grew by the end of the film, including the protagonist whose emotional turmoil was displayed through one montage and was only reinforced when his pseudo-father figure ended up betraying him.
Have you read the original Treasure Island? This was to Treasure Island what the 4Kids dub of... anything, was to the original dub.
In short: This isn't art. It was a cute Disney movie, and deservedly one of the most criticized.

It's a shame we've got all these Disney movies about ladies and not enough about men. The princes /Male leads don't get many positive traits like the princesses. Men need more cartoon role models too, not just hunky, soldier guys. They NEED to see these male characters when they're little.. not just marvel characters and whatnot. This character is perfect for young boys to look up to: strong and doesn't fit into the system but finds his own place using his unique skills.

I am a question to the world
Not an answer to be heard
    Or a moment
    That's held in your arms
And what do you think you'd ever say?
    I won't listen anyway
    You don't know me
And I'll never be what you want me to be
And what do you think you'd understand?
    I'm a boy, no, I'm a man
    You can't take me
    And throw me away
And how can you learn what's never shown?
Yeah, you stand here on your own
    They don't know me
    Cause I'm not here
And I want a moment to be real
Wanna touch things I don't feel
Wanna hold on and feel I belong
And how can the world want me to change?
They're the ones that stay the same
    They don't know me
    Cause I'm not here
And you see the things they never see
All you wanted I could be
    Now you know me
    And I'm not afraid
And I want to tell you who I am
Can you help me be a man?
    They can't break me
As long as I know who I am
And I want a moment to be real
Wanna touch things I don't feel
Wanna hold on and feel I belong
And how can the world want me to change?
They're the ones that stay the same
    They can't see me
    But I'm still here
They can't tell me who to be
Cause I'm not what they see
Yeah, the world is still sleepin while I keep on dreaming for me
And their words are just whispers and lies
    that I'll never believe
And I want a moment to be real
Wanna touch things I don't feel
Wanna hold on and feel I belong
And how can they say I'll never change?
They're the ones that stay the same
    I'm the one now
    Cause I'm still here
    I'm the one
    Cause I'm still here

This was my absolute favorite song (along with the movie scene). Watching Jim grow at the same time seeing the childhood trauma that made him who he is and leaving it behind. . . And watching him and Silver develop that father-son bond that neither had ever had.
GOSH I STILL can't believe this movie did so poorly! One of the greatest nautical adventure stories was adapted into a space themed work of art!
People have no soul. . . . I mean, what more did they want???! 😢

    • @matthewmuir8884
      @matthewmuir8884 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

The reason why this film did so poorly: Disney rigged it to fail. The company deliberately had it compete with Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Die Another Day, and The Santa Clause 2 at the box office, all while giving it extremely terrible marketing that was a far cry from their typical marketing campaigns. It was all deliberate: the execs saw the money in CG, and rigged this film to flop as a scapegoat to justify switching completely to CG and shutting down their traditional-animation studio.
The joke (if you can call it that) is on them: this film flopped so badly because of what they did, that it cost them all their profits they had made earlier in the year from Lilo & Stitch, and the company nearly saw a repeat of what happened with The Black Cauldron.

Always aspiring you to charge forward without a care in the world because you know he's always behind you. And when you fail, he would lift you up the ground! Above all, if it weren't for him, you wouldn't be around.
A mother in the other hand, is that special woman who is always there when dad is not around. She stays strong for the purpose of loving you and nurture you as you grow. I loved both the female-centered and male-centered stories, the platonic and the romantic ones, dark and lighthearted ones. But the ones that touched my heart the most are the ones that were about families, the ones that made me cry, and the ones that made me doubt there was going to be a happy ending. Brother Bear, Treasure Planet, The Fox and the Hound (watch this with caution tho), Brave, Atlantis, Wall-e and The Hunchback of Notre Dame are top-shelf tear-jerkers, you guys. Even the last two movies in Toy Story series and Hercules will make you cry.

I’m glad they decided this because apparently the entire plot was going to be about Jim going to military school -which isn’t bad- but... they give him a love interest and the movie is about their rivalry and the classic girl beats boy thing and suddenly boy likes girl and - no thanks. I don’t wanna have a movie with Jim in it that isn’t about space pirate adventures.
