  • Basic curing of bamboo is to cut and let dry. Keep it off the ground and cut at the nodes so no insects live in the cavities. Sand and paint with wood sealer to extend the life.

Glad this was helpful! Once they dry its good to put them in a protected area under cover and treat them to properly cure the bamboo with boric acid or wood paint.

Do you have to dry it out and then heat cure it? Or can you just heat cure it?
I seen people building homes with fresh bamboo and was wondering if all that work would be worth it? Bc they didn't do anything to it after they cut it down before building.

It depends on how much time and money you want to spend. Ideally it would be dried and cured and treated, this is most important for structural pieces. For something non-structural like a wall or facing it doesn't matter as much. If you do put it up green then you can still paint it with wood sealer after it dries and turns brown.

The best way to cure is to do it immediately!
You can either build a nice fire pit heat the bamboo for like 30 to 40 seconds over an open flame for "each section" moving it back and forth this will release a oil inside of the bamboo and it will preserve it and give it a cool look.
If you have a helper use an old cloth and run the bamboo back and forth as it is being cooked to spread the oils around but you don't necessarily need to do that it just makes it last longer.
I cut my bamboo and then I immediately bring it home and soak them in a highly concentrated salt solution in a 5-gallon bucket one big thing of salt 🧂 you buy for your home the blue one that is 6 inches high and 4 inches in diameter. It's a few bucks . then I add hot water to a five gallon bucket 🪣 about half way and soak it for two days on each end for a few days in the shade or inside of possible.
I hope this helps you. I've heard by many professionals that it is best to have it drying out horizontally in the shade away from moisture

Or you can build a frame the size of your bamboo at least a foot high off the ground kind of like a long garden box then line it with plastic again have a extremely concentrated salt water solution and fill with water mixing it well and fully submerged the bamboo inside of this tub with center blocks on top to hold them down. And some people get a really long iron poking rod and poke holes through each note of the bamboo what channel think is too hard but it's just finding that long piece of steel to do that lol . Took me a long time to find something but that allows all the chemicals to go inside of it 😊 anyways I hope this helps

Curing bamboo is basically just drying it, although you can go further and do many treatments to preserve the bamboo.
