I love that it's an actual decision as well. He is not important to completing the game or any dlc's, at all. You can still build up all the settlements, without him. Just go up there, get the bobblehead, get the power armor, and leave.
The interesting thing about the Hitman ending is, if you choose for Agent 47 to take the serum, he wakes up to the beginning cutscene of the very first game. I thought it was a cool little cyclical mindf**k they did there; as well as a nod to long time fans.
Never did this myself, but always felt bad for people who decided to plough through the Catacombs/Tomb of the Giants instead of Undead Burg in Dark Souls 1 only to hit a dead end
I did this with in the place with the ghosts, on your way to fight the 4 kings…imagine my despair to find myself unable to traverse the dark because I didn’t have that ring.😱

That one family in the beginning of AC Odyssey, they have a desease and you have to choose between sparing or ending them. And if you spare.. they will spread a plague that will make almost the entire Athenas.
i stopped odyssey after that quest, i think i chose that option too, so does everyone in the city die when you do that lmaooo what about the quests surrounding that area and stuff
That choice sucked. They were a defenceless family, and I’m supposed to spear them all in the face? Was hoping Hippocrates would help Cephalonia recover. But nope, that decision remains cursed for the rest of the game.
Regardless of if you try to save the family or let them die, the disease still spreads to Athens anyway. It’s also a completely optional side quest soo best choice imo is to just ignore the sick family altogether so you don’t feel directly responsible for letting them get killed, and then they also won’t spread the disease into the immediate area, Kephallonia
Iirc it wasn't in relation to Athens but Cephalonia itself. The Athenian Plague was an actual historical event during the Peloponessian War, I don't think the Cephalonians had one though.
Those choices involving Ciri were impossible to guess at. I obviously wanted to protect her and, therefore, had the worst ending on my first playthrough. Man that was some traumatizing shit... Make choices that lean toward Ciri doing whatever the hell she wants, and boom! Good ending. But don't you dare try to keep her safe, damn you... I still have strong feelings about this.
The same happened to my first playthrough bad ending cuz i tried to keep her safe. Had to look at guides to get the better endings . Letting her do her own thing probably just developed her independence or something.
There was a choice to destroy some guys office with Ciri cant remember its been so long. I didnt do IT. Geralt then gave her a beautiful speech about keeping your emotions. When i discovered that it was a bad choice that costed me my bad ending i gave up on Ciris character as a whole.
Two cool swords, but weak and easily low level by the time you get them, if you sacrifice him, who was already a psycho even before the deal, and ask for a fast horse you get a really cool looking saddle that gives roach infinite stamina and courage and has stun effect on every enemie that gets close, by far the best saddle, if not the best quest reward at all in the game
I just let him die and said I didn’t want anything because I was freaking frightened of Gaunter. He’s terrifying and I figured it’s a choice I’d make in real life.

I've done multiple playthroughs of Bioshock. I've always intended to try harvesting power from the little sisters instead of saving them. But when it comes time I just can't do it.
It's been a while, but if I remember correctly you had to have either Paragon or Renegade high in order to get the dialogue options to save Wrex on Virmire. Or to have completed his loyalty quest to save his family armor. If you rushed through the main story, or if you'd been distributing points in both abilities instead of concentrating on just one, it was highly likely that the option to talk him down wouldn't be available when you reached Virmire.
In witcher I'd say it makes sense, he made the deal with the devil and reaps consequences. It's also based on a legend of Pan Twardowski, who made a deal with the devil and promised to give up his soul when in Rome. He evaded the devil for ages until he has gone to an inn named Rome.
I can't remember the legend, but there was some trickery involved iirc. Anyway, he ran from the devil but in the process fell on the moon and is said to be there till now.

I have gotten every single piece of equipment in Elden Ring (before the DLC) except for one the Warrior Jar Shard. Both Alexander and Lattena are the two NPCs I will never betray.
I went deathwish because I didn't want to lose options and game play. It was a purely metagame decision. Had it been an Rp choice, Trevor would be dead every time. I mean I enjoy playing him but he is clearly destructive to himself and anyone near him as is only going to live as longs as it takes for some one to recognized his true nature that does not have a vested interest in him surviving. While fun to play he is a perfect example of the concept of "Some people just need shooting".
Killing Iron fist Alexander does indeed make you a monster as well as lock you out of a badass companion for bosses like Rahdahn and the Fire Giant. Killing Boc on the other hand. Even the monsters are going to think you are a giant tarnished peice of crap.

Missed that my first play though as well, just because you didn't follow through with a snippet of overheard conversation. I only got it on the second play through because I was doing some random exploring of places that I really didn't see much of the first time.

Its so frustrating to lose out on content in the game based on choice, but at the same time it makes the game that much better on your second playthrough! Armored Core IV is one of my new favorites due to having new parts to the story after multiple playthroughs.
I prefer it. Why have talking points if they all lead to the same thing. If you give me a convo with 6 conversation branches and 4 choices at each point with a few extra choices depending on my stats or what I ask and it still all leads to the exact same things happening in my story..... I just wasted 5-10 minutes of my life on a cutscene I could have skipped. You can say it builds the world but eh.... make consequences and rewards for being a good or bad person to people

i've played it multiple times through and only had the heart to do it once, because i had an evil character that lived in the Tenpenny Tower suite. I felt so bad, but i needed to have a character that was truly evil. For science.
I purposely started Mass effect 1 over again just keep to wrex on my team. I'm glad i found out how to keep him because the game never told me that i had to do a mission for him before i got to The invasion in vermire.

Prey 2017 allowed you to make some absolute dipshit choices: taking the early solo escape pod, killing the AI companion January, killing the only living pilot left on the ship, … killing your girlfriend.

did you know Gaunter is a cross reference to Walter O'Dim from the Dark Tower Series, that the devs are a fan of the series and made a joke that the Witcher's universe is just one of the levels of the Tower itself. Theres also a reference to the deadlights/pennywise, and the Crimson King.
In Witcher 3 I did give up the guy so I could get the saddle, you get to keep in New Game+ so play the game multiple times until you get all the rewards then save the guy after. If you really want to play it that many times that is.
I will happily go on a date with Cid, Vincent, and our pet cat. Best outcome. And I am a major introvert, so awkward silence is totally normal. Also, killing Scratch or the Owlbear Cub is absolutely evil…but sadly very easy to do unless you know what to do.
What do you mean giving the soul to O'Dimm is bad? Olgierd sold his soul and got what he paid for and now it is time to pay up. I had no problem with it and I was 100% on Master Mirrors side. I didn't even count my actions as morally questionable until I saw someone talk about it a while ago. It was a simple contract, you pay x and get y and I still don't understand why breaking a contract should be a good thing.
There's actually a cute thing with Heart of Stone. If you haven't found Ciri yet, and you let Gaunter wander off with Olgierd's soul, one of your options is to ask where she is. He'll admit he can't actually see her, but will then provide you with step by step instructions through those hidden decision points later in the game.

If you've ever played the Gold Box AD&D games from the 80's-90's, the worst decision in Pool of Radiance you can make is to join the dragon Tyranthraxus at the end of the game. Any character that does join becomes part of his army. If you add your whole party, the game ends. If you add part of your party, anyone who changed sides is now your enemy, and you have to fight not only the dragon, but your former party members as well.
The whole Wrex situation can be completely avoided if you talk to him between missions and get his hidden mission. Once completed he is 100% guaranteed to live. It's not even an issue once you get to Virmire. Only took me 6 years to discover his mission.
Yeah kotor 1 and 2 just gave me choices that I just place my controller down, and sit in indecision for five minutes. Such amazing storytelling. Beat star wars games ever.
Honestly I only faced gaunter o dimm out of curiosity. The more I knew about olgierd, the less I cared about him losing his soul. Heck gaunter even helps you to save ciri if you side with him. I adore his character
I've recently played the witcher 3 again and the game prepares you for this. First of all, you play as her, see that she can fight. When you play as her she knows how to use a sword, knows how to make potions and bombs and also has powerful magical abilities. The game also shows you that she can run from powerful beings like crones, can hold herself well against whoreson junior, she even outruns the wild hunt. And the characters also tell you these things, for example when you find Dandelion she tells you not to worry about her and she can protect herself. The problem with Witcher is that it's a really long game with too many side quests, sometimes player forgets what has happened before.
Similar to Phantom Liberty, Kingdom Come: Deliverance have a couple timed quests. And they have no indication, except questgiver says it's urgent. There is no worst feeling than, after a week of in-game tame, seeing that quest is failed
Killing Alexander in Elden Ring locks you out of his questline and his help on some of the bosses... As is the case with most NPCs in any From Software game.. did you include him here just to pad the viewcount due to the dlc being out soon?
I feel like the Gaunter O’Dimm decision is more nuanced because the whole time you’re learning what bad things Olgierd has done (before and after he was cursed by O’Dimm) and how he was complicit in summoning O’Dimm to make a deal. And you have the Witcher motto of not interfering to think about. I let him die my first playthrough and felt it was justified because Olgierd was a bad person who got himself into that deal and to avoid conflict with a seemingly immortal and all-powerful devil who had Geralt’s soul hostage. The saddle was a nice reward.
Killing Iron fist Alexander also locks you out of the best item in the game. Flat 15% damage boost to everything if you complete the quest is well worth helping him.
I'm probably alone in this, but as someone who goes home after work and wants to chill with video games I hate choices in games as it's more ways for me to be responsible for fuck ups if i make a wrong choice. It's okay if it doesn't amount to anything or if it's clear what's good or bad like 'infamous', but I don't want to be given 10 seconds to choose between 3 big choices.
It still plays out the same. I passed all my stuff to my companion and went in with ratty clothes. Once I "joined" the cult I simply reclaimed my things from the companion (Nick Valentine) and then wiped out the cult.

I made the wrong choice in killing Pagan Min in Far Cry 4 robbing me of the good ending in spreading Ajay’s mums ashes. The whole reason to be there in the first place. All previous choices were inconsequential but they decide to whack the biggest choice at the end with no build up or warning on the outcome.

Rejecting the reward money from Emhyr was a pretty intuitive one. Had a pretty good feeling that turning down all that cash would pay off somehow.

Regarding The Witcher 3, Olgierd isn't exactly a good person himself, but by protecting him you get two cool swords that you can't get otherwise.

Dragon Age Inquisition deserves an honorable mention for anyone who failed to rescue Iron Bull’s Chargers from the Venatori.
Similar in DD1, in the opening town there's the start of the whole 'witch' plotline. I walked right past it, missed out on a HUGE chunk of the plot.

Yeah but you get until the endgame so you're better off killing him if you really want to use it. Big reason why so many people reccomend killing him for strong builds.
Unless you're going into NG+, you're not losing out on much by getting the Warrior Jar Shard over Alexander's Shard
It's not a worse version. It's the same talisman. You miss his questline, and a few items only obtainable through his quest....

I feel like the worse choice in the Mass Effect franchise is the one that kills the entire Geth and Quarian races (Including Tali and Legion) and leaves the entire rest of the game on this somber awkward note that never goes away.

3. You can even Ask Odim about Ciri. He will show concern for you and help you get a better ending

i've played it multiple times through and only had the heart to do it once, because i had an evil character that lived in the Tenpenny Tower suite. I felt so bad, but i needed to have a character that was truly evil. For science.
I purposely started Mass effect 1 over again just keep to wrex on my team. I'm glad i found out how to keep him because the game never told me that i had to do a mission for him before i got to The invasion in vermire.
you dont have to do his loyalty mission. You just need a high enough paragon or renegade score. Just do virmire last and you should have that easily.
The loyalty mission does make it easier if your Para/Rene score isn't high enough to convince him outright with dialogue.

The worst decision you can make in Witcher 3 is not doing that quest to free Geralt from the djinn curse that made him fall in love with Yenefer, the most toxic, abusive waifu in all gamedom.
Prey 2017 allowed you to make some absolute dipshit choices: taking the early solo escape pod, killing the AI companion January, killing the only living pilot left on the ship, … killing your girlfriend.

did you know Gaunter is a cross reference to Walter O'Dim from the Dark Tower Series, that the devs are a fan of the series and made a joke that the Witcher's universe is just one of the levels of the Tower itself. Theres also a reference to the deadlights/pennywise, and the Crimson King.
In Witcher 3 I did give up the guy so I could get the saddle, you get to keep in New Game+ so play the game multiple times until you get all the rewards then save the guy after. If you really want to play it that many times that is.
In The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening you can steal from the shop and everyone calls you a thief after that.

What do you mean giving the soul to O'Dimm is bad? Olgierd sold his soul and got what he paid for and now it is time to pay up. I had no problem with it and I was 100% on Master Mirrors side. I didn't even count my actions as morally questionable until I saw someone talk about it a while ago. It was a simple contract, you pay x and get y and I still don't understand why breaking a contract should be a good thing.
Yeah, and Gaunter O'Dimm is always true to his word and treated Geralt with kindness. I don't understand how he is the bad guy.

There's actually a cute thing with Heart of Stone. If you haven't found Ciri yet, and you let Gaunter wander off with Olgierd's soul, one of your options is to ask where she is. He'll admit he can't actually see her, but will then provide you with step by step instructions through those hidden decision points later in the game.

I would argue that siding with Songbird in Phantom Liberty is a worse choice than doing nothing. Regardless of her motivations, or how you feel about her as a character, she's clearly in over her head, and putting all of society at risk.

If you've ever played the Gold Box AD&D games from the 80's-90's, the worst decision in Pool of Radiance you can make is to join the dragon Tyranthraxus at the end of the game. Any character that does join becomes part of his army. If you add your whole party, the game ends. If you add part of your party, anyone who changed sides is now your enemy, and you have to fight not only the dragon, but your former party members as well.

I've recently played the witcher 3 again and the game prepares you for this.
First of all, you play as her, see that she can fight. When you play as her she knows how to use a sword, knows how to make potions and bombs and also has powerful magical abilities.
The game also shows you that she can run from powerful beings like crones, can hold herself well against whoreson junior, she even outruns the wild hunt.
And the characters also tell you these things, for example when you find Dandelion she tells you not to worry about her and she can protect herself.
The problem with Witcher is that it's a really long game with too many side quests, sometimes player forgets what has happened before.

Similar to Phantom Liberty, Kingdom Come: Deliverance have a couple timed quests. And they have no indication, except questgiver says it's urgent. There is no worst feeling than, after a week of in-game tame, seeing that quest is failed
Killing Alexander in Elden Ring locks you out of his questline and his help on some of the bosses... As is the case with most NPCs in any From Software game.. did you include him here just to pad the viewcount due to the dlc being out soon?
I feel like the Gaunter O’Dimm decision is more nuanced because the whole time you’re learning what bad things Olgierd has done (before and after he was cursed by O’Dimm) and how he was complicit in summoning O’Dimm to make a deal. And you have the Witcher motto of not interfering to think about. I let him die my first playthrough and felt it was justified because Olgierd was a bad person who got himself into that deal and to avoid conflict with a seemingly immortal and all-powerful devil who had Geralt’s soul hostage. The saddle was a nice reward.
Killing Iron fist Alexander also locks you out of the best item in the game. Flat 15% damage boost to everything if you complete the quest is well worth helping him.

I hate choices in games as it's more ways for me to be responsible for fuck ups if i make a wrong choice.
It's okay if it doesn't amount to anything or if it's clear what's good or bad like 'infamous', but I don't want to be given 10 seconds to choose between 3 big choices.

It still plays out the same. I passed all my stuff to my companion and went in with ratty clothes. Once I "joined" the cult I simply reclaimed my things from the companion (Nick Valentine) and then wiped out the cult.

I made the wrong choice in killing Pagan Min in Far Cry 4 robbing me of the good ending in spreading Ajay’s mums ashes. The whole reason to be there in the first place. All previous choices were inconsequential but they decide to whack the biggest choice at the end with no build up or warning on the outcome.
