      Rodney was a Canadian scientist working for IOA after working for US government. Daniel was basically civilian contractor working for the military, add the fact they both got hazard pay for being in combat situations and their seniority and they were probably some of the best paid people around. I do think Daniel was paid more, since US military likes to spend their budget on contractors while international agencies tend to be bean counters.

    Technically Daniel doesn't get paid more than Rodney. Rodney collects a paycheck but Daniel doesn't have to pay for anything on multiple worlds

  • @Avalanche041
    @Avalanche041 4 ปีที่แล้ว +83

    Honestly, it could go either way and depends on what title Daniel actually holds within the SGC. He is after all just another contract worker for the US military, same as Rodney. So the question ultimately becomes, who wears more hats? You get the impression that Daniel is considered the SGC's lead archaeologist but is this a actual position or just something he does cause he has the most experience? Does he get paid more for it? Rodney on the other hand is the lead scientist for the entire Atlantis Expedition. He is one of the 3 senior department heads with only the expedition leader and military commander being ahead of him in terms of authority. Daniel while being used as a consultant on a variety of occasions...never seems to have any additional authority granted to him. This leads me to conclude that his pay grade may very well be lower than Rodney's. Ultimately it comes down to the terms of their respective contracts.

    • @bangscutter
      @bangscutter 3 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      Does getting paid even mean anything for the Atlantis expedition in another galaxy? It's not like their money can be used to buy anything at Atlantis, own property and so on. Everything is provided for; living space, food, etc. Daniel at least is based on Earth, so his wages can actually be used to buy the usual stuff that Earth people can buy.

    Based on current job postings for a historian and a physicist working for government. Daniel Jackson makes about $70k a year as a civilian federally contracted advisor to the Air Force. Rodney McKay makes about $57k a year as a research physicist for the Canadian military. Note that these amounts would not include overtime and hazard pay. I forgot about this exchange. I would have to say Mckay has more money in the bank, but Jackson has the higher pay rate. For Mckay and every one in Atlantis, their pay has been piling up in a bank account. They cant spend any earth money in the Pegasus galaxy. I think he told his sister when wanted to give a gift to his sisters kid while she was at Atlantis "Its not like we a have a Toys R Us around here." As for Jackson his pay has got have gone up. He is one of the only civilians that the military would listen to and let run the SGC or a SGC ship in space. Being a member of SG1 has got to be a strange thing in the military of that earth. He can boss almost anyone around save for a general and the president and get away with it. Plus for both of them, no matter what normal people (non SGC people) think of them now... history will place them very high in famous people. In 100 years high school kids will have to write papers on them.

    Their pay may be close due to the fact that Daniel stayed as a civilian contractor and Rodney is employed by the IOA. But in terms of bragging rights, Rodney got nothing on Daniel. I mean Daniel has an Intergalactic Warship named after him built by one of the most advanced alien civilizations ever known. Though blowing up a solar system is cool too I guess. 😂

      Daniel was critical in unlocking the Stargate along with all sorts of Goa'uld, Ancient, Asgard, and other alien technologies. He had vast practical knowledge of the universe after ascending (twice) and being telepathically enlightened (a few times). He had a glorious warship named after him. He did Important Stuff which saved Earth and other worlds (numerous times).
      But in the end, what really mattered was that Daniel could handle himself with competence, professionalism, and dignity. While Rodney was arrogant, would giggle like a teenager when you put a gun into his hand, and would scream like a girl when you pointed one at him.

      @@IIGrayfoxII - wrong.
      There is a pay grade for civilians. Jackson, because of his degrees and language skills would be making as much as a colonial to start and every year he would get a cost of living raise called steps.
      So after 5 years he would still make his base pay (as a colonial) plus 4 steps giving him more money. That shows his seniority as well. The only ones who would put rank him and be his superior are those who make more money than him.
      Meaning if a new guy comes along and is
      Making the pay of a General with no years of experience, he is the new guy, he would out rank Jackson.
      That though is not the case. He is at the top of seniority and the only ones over him are O’Neil and Hammond. Because they out rank him based on their rank and time in service. Which is shown in the pay.
      It’s a complicated system to those who do not live it.
      I do, and I still have problems with new people till I find out their seniority.

      The same can be said for any military person on active deployment. But there are four major reasons.
      - They still need to pay for their homes, cars, bills, etc while employed.
      - While they might have quarters on base, not everyone stays on the base all the time. Teal'c tried living off base for a while, and we have seen Jack, Sam and Daniel at home.
      - You don't necessarily work for the SGC your entire life. A lot of people in the show made a career of it sure, but some are only their for a while. You'll need money when you're done.
