    You are such an inspiration David! I used to work with multiple big clients such as Shell, PNC etc shooting video. I’ve since taken an internal video team job and while it pays good I miss that hustle and bustle and on the job craziness from these shoots. You make me want to take the leap into freelance.

    I recently did a photography gig where I used 2 cameras and the cross body straps like your buddy had. Ask him if he had issues with essentially "camera but dialing" where the camera that's hanging would press buttons because it's hanging from my body. My solution was to turn each camera off when I would switch to another one, but that would slow down my workflow.

    • @davidmorefield
      @davidmorefield  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know he keeps them on so he probably doesn’t have that issue. And I believe he uses a vest instead of two cross straps.
      But these are the small details that can make a big difference!

    The reader was likely the issue more so than the SD card itself - also, you could always use an atomos and film to ProRes

    • @davidmorefield
      @davidmorefield  ปีที่แล้ว

      I sold my ninja. I don’t like the vulnerabilities of filming over hdmi. Not secure enough for me to feel comfortable. Plus you can’t send On Screen Display info which is half the reason I use a monitor to adjust settings. But thanks for the insight. Always looking for methods to optimize workflow.

    Thanks so much for the vlog. It is great to see how things are developing for you.
    I really enjoy your vlogs. I think they provide something that is missing in the universe of TH-cam: There are plenty of quality tutorials and reviews of equipment. But not much that I've seen like your vlog where it is more like "here is a situation that I need to shoot, these are the issues I'm facing, and here is how I use the equipment and environment I have to do it." The business and personal growth is great too. I can relate to it because there is so much in common in your equipment and mine - though you're way further down the path of professional use than I am.
    (for demographic info - I'm in Australia. I've been doing intermittent paid video work for about a year. All dance events - concerts and competitions in theatre with camera fixed on tripod. I have also been doing stills photography for amateur MMA and Taekwondo for years. I recently did my first corporate job and hope to do more. As you say, it is all networking. I got that gig through my next door neighbor who has a communications company and had a client that needed some video. We'll see how that progresses :-) )

    • @davidmorefield
      @davidmorefield  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dude that is exactly the style and info I wanted to present. So I’m glad it’s coming across. I think there’s a gap in TH-cam between people who sit at a desk talking about gear and people actually in the field. To each their own but I find this style more intriguing. And I love that I can shoot/edit and publish all from my phone. If I had to edit this on a computer, it would never get done.
      Yeah man, that sounds like an awesome start. Take every gig you can in the beginning it all helps. Every experience takes you further.

    Welcome to reality tv! OTF is a style of interviews, so they had one more interview to shoot with somebody from a scene they shot

    • @davidmorefield
      @davidmorefield  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the clarification. I know most of my jargon from the Eng world: sot, mos, standup, look live, etc. It’s fun to learn these new ones. Any others I should be aware of?!

    • @ButterViZion
      @ButterViZion ปีที่แล้ว

      OTF is when it looks like they are pulled aside usually standing up somewhere talking about before during and after the scene to clarify its importance. ITM or “in the moment” is more in the same environment of the scene, kind of direct to camera or just off to the side almost breaking the 4th wall usually for a quicker tidbit about something surprising etc

    Great job! I think it's really important to be familiar with lots of different camera brands like you are doing. How did you find shooting with the RED vs the C70 and A7Siii? I recently bought a 10 year old RED Scarlet X just to play around with really. I haven't had much of a chance to shoot with it yet. Black shading is a new thing for me. It took quite a while to calibrate.

    • @davidmorefield
      @davidmorefield  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Im supposed to black shade with my c70 but I’ve never done it. And temp is always extremely changing when I go I to a building with AC at 70° then outside to 88° with 100% humidity.
      Did you get a good deal on the scarlet? I know they are going cheap.
      And I only had a few hours with the Komodo but it was fun.

    • @MichaelGreenwoodMG
      @MichaelGreenwoodMG ปีที่แล้ว

      @@davidmorefield yes a really good deal I think. It was £1510 which is about $1750. It came with a custom made Pelican case (I think it's the 1510) and accessories. Also a Red Rock Micro matte boxe which is in ok condition..the camera only has about 110 hours on it. But the lens mount release button has come off (a screw is missing and I couldn't find one that fits) so you have to release the mount by pressing it with a pen or allen key. It's £95 to repair that if I wanted to. It's still usable and really good condition, it looks nearly new. If they break though they're very expensive to fix and the RED Scarlet is meant to be unreliable unlike Arri apparently which are really reliable.

    Hey I saw that you shot on the komodo, not sure if you knew about the turning on and off procedure on the red. But tbh you haven't blown up the sdi so i was just wondering if it made that much of a difference haha

    • @davidmorefield
      @davidmorefield  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I could be wrong but I think that only applies if the cam and monitor are running off the same external battery. In this case, the cam was powered by native bp batteries and the monitor was powered by its own npf. I think the problems occur when you have a vmount powering both. If that is incorrect, please advise.

    • @stuartswindellcampoy8483
      @stuartswindellcampoy8483 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@davidmorefield tbh you could be right , I'm just following what red said but not sure if they said this while being powered by the same battery or their own . Again you have way more experience than me in the field so you're probably right :) it's just what i read and what I've done everytime i shoot on komodo :)

    cool video, very interesting, congrats and thanks for putting it out there. Just one question regarding that issue you had with the SD cards. What speed/class SD card were you using?

    • @davidmorefield
      @davidmorefield  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The fastest ones they make! Haha. I use 128 v90 300 mb/s angelbirds. It’s simply a limitation of being an sd card and an sd card reader. I think Red Mag readers are at 10 gb/s. I’m not too familiar with their numbers but I know that the red stuff is built for speed and my sd cards were ruining everything 😂
