I knew Phil in 80s back in Camden Town, Rock On records. He was such a lovely bloke. I bought this original single and still have it. Im sure he wrote this way before he joined the Pogues.
RIP Phil. One of the greatest Pogue songs and a worthy contribution to IISFFGWG. Its certainly up with there with the best but no one sings it better than Shane who adds level of bitterness regarding the forced migration of so many to America during both the famine and after.

Oh how I miss Phil :( Shanes voice is nice, but this song will be forever Phil's for me.
