Upgrading a talent tree really makes the early and mid game a breeze. For me it was Sizz Virtuoso on a monster with Crafty Sizzer trait. Kasizzle was one shotting mobs until I reached the Upper echelons. Breath looks really strong too and it seems useful that the monster stats don't really matter giving you lots of freedom to breed them however you want.
Also recommend getting some Drackys and synthing for Zam Virtuoso. Getting Black Breath will clear all wild mobs for like the first 3-4 circles on turn 1, and he's one of the fastest monsters in the game so almost always goes first.
Recommend getting a metal slime in your party. Ten tiny medals and he’s yours. I beat the final boss after all my big hitters and reserves died and the metal slime just ate everything the final boss was throwing at him.
My drake slime with its upgraded breath attacks made the colosseums so easy. It got challenging at C rank since he’s only level 16. But he destroyed the others below C rank
You being reminded of Dragon Quest 11 through this game? It makes sense, since this different kind of RPG, shares allot of assets from 11. There's multiple moments in this game when I'm reminded of 11S (the version of 11 I played. Never played the inferior base version) despite this having a very different battle system compared to 11S's battle system. Thankfully, Dragon Quest games are not afraid to cling to retro RPG game traditions, so it doesn't take long to adjust to. Final Fantasy is the opposite of Dragon Quest when considering what kind of games before it in the series. Final Fantasy is too up-tight with the need to constantly renovate the battle systems. While Dragon Quest isn't in such a panic to feel like it has to constantly reinvent the wheel, so to speak
So if you max out shallow breath on a monster then synthesis it with the exact same monster then you will be able to learn the next level breath attacks with the new monster? Is this correct?
Not exactly. Maxing it out and synthesizing it into anything else or with anything else will still upgrade the skill. However if you have 2 monsters that both have the same skill, as long as the total number of skill points added into the skill on either monster equals the same amount as the maximum needed to max the skill out, the skill will still upgrade
Man the whole game has been a breeze up to general chayne. Cant beat that fcker but its cause all i really have is an angel slime hahaha. I still have starter cucumber and the vinedragon dude. I need to synth them
Yeah the game is likely impossible or near impossible with synching although that's a fun playhrough idea. But if you start synthing you'll see the game is pretty much a breeze the whole thing
I can't put this game down! When I'm not playing, I'm dreaming up all sorts of team combos and synthesis possibilities.

Yeah, General Chayne is the first major difficulty spike of the game.
