I ran across a pack of 3 King Metal Slimes in this game. My liquid metal slime that I bred for Agility 4, Agility 3 and kaboomle went first, used kaboomle and killed all 3. That dopamine hit when 14.4 million experience popped up on my screen had me grinning like a loon for the next hour. Dragon Quest Monsters gets me like no other series does. Love it to death
The story is what really caught me off guard...Despite the reminder in the top left corner, I have never felt tempted to skip a cutscene. The narrative is well paced, unique enough in its setup and themes, and the chaaracters are bursting with personality thanks to the typically colorful design and localization that we've come to expect from modern DQ games. Needless to say, as someone who grew up playing the originals, I've been over the absolutely over the moon about this game and am glad to see it getting some love. What a time to be alive as a 90s kid and a JRPG fanatic these days!
At some point in the game, you'll come across an accessory called *Candy Cane* This thing is so strong: when the wielder is in battle, exp and gold gain increases by 10% and more likely to find items. Make sure this accessory is always worn by someone in the main party and not in reserve.
I'm about 40 hours in and can finally say it's my dream monsters game. Perfect combo of DMW1/2 + Jokers mechanics! The icing on the cake is the so far whimsical re-telling of DQ4. I spent nearly 4 hours yesterday trying to fuse a Overkilling Machine (I like Robster more for there name) the fusion lines are incredibly addicting. I didn't know you could turn off spells and when you showed it my jaw dropped lol THANK YOU! I loved hearing the old DWM breeding theme (shoutout to cursed towers ost) - that bit brought me a nostalgia tear.
@@sharebear421 the difficulty has been been perfect. Early game is easy fun for battling and scouting and it really picks up mid game. Once you get towards the end of mid game you will start being punished for bad team comps. Some monsters have a trait that lets them ignore the extra defense of metal monsters and since you can swap out your party members in a regular battle it would be useful to keep one of those in your reserve just in case.
The sad thing is its not on the top sellers list and this will give dumb a** square enix the thought that we don't like dq monsters anymore because they failed to advertise it like pokemon its dumb!
omg i'm having so much fun with this title. i honestly don't even bother beating the big hitter first. i keep a party with sweet breath and kasap or tongue lashing/bashing and it literally makes every monster scouted at least 60-70% right off the rip if they are asleep/sapped. i have been waiting all year for this title and it is turning out to be one of my favorites of 2023, thanks for another great vid David!
Great tips! I think the ones about scouting and synthesis will be the biggest adjustment for gamers used to Pokémon. Loving my time with DQM, so glad we finally have a new entry!
I'd say for monster team building, make a team of a healer, fighter, mage, and an all-rounder/buffer and start making these four as strong at their role as possible. Healer, duy, is the one who heals and recovers your team when their low (beef up their health and defense of you could, don't give them agility up stats for they work well if their last especially against bosses who can deal heavy damage later than your team does to use your items accordingly when others are low when the healer did their job last turn) Fighters are physical attackers who can do double actions and use attacks that deal damage to metal monsters without worry (attack and health are usually the stats to go, three guesses why, lol) Mages are magic users, varying spells can deal wide amounts of damage, either elemental or just AoE damage for sweeps (wisdom and mp boosts are essential for a good mage naturally) All rounders are your breath attackers, essentially AoE users (whatever they need to be bigger AoE sweepers, give them that. Breath attacks I wouldn't know if they scale off of a stat or not though) Buffers are the spell users that use buffs to make your team stronger and possibly weaken your enemies (as a prominent teammate who fortifies the team, fortification is essential for themselves, defense and health is usually the way to go for them, but speed is also key to make their buffs come in ASAP)
I love to see more DQ coverage, and love your channel period. I’ve been a huge DQ fan for a bit now, and I always hope the games do well in the US. Remains to be seen, DQ XI seemed to reach new heights for the series in the US, but I haven’t really seen much marketing for this game and wouldn’t be aware if I wasn’t already a DQ fan. Anyways, I’m enjoying the game and appreciate the videos!
Just finished the demo and decided to go and buy my physical copy ❤ will be getting it tomorrow so this information will be extremely helpful for me❤ glad I found your video
The paddock isn't a bad idea. Especially since you can only have a total of 8 monsters with you at a time you can leave the C listers back at base to still level up. Even if only to use as synthesis for skills later.
You can always pick the species of either of the parents when synthesizing. I've used this to add a new talent to a metal slime while keeping the trait that reduces the damage it takes. I also have a regular slime I've synthesized with other things just to see how strong I could get it and to see if I could keep it usably powerful. So far, so good.
I had the exact same reaction when I got to Chapter 5 in Dragon Quest IV. I had no idea about the Game Genie code back then though! I only recently finally played through it like that.
Ooh I need to study this vid. The game has a wonderful balance of simplicity with advanced mechanics, and yes I agree the level you can tailor the AI in battle is probably the most intuitive in Dragon Quest yet
Honestly I really love the monster Tammy aspect and it was one of the best parts of Dragon Quest 8 journey of the cursed King basically running across the field on a saber cat and then like certain monsters like the Broncos and the Cyclops would have like an affinity link and they would have a team scale and stuff like that with a synergized I love the hell out of that I hope in the new Dragon Quest game that they have that again and they bring it back
Thank you lad for this edvise because i played joker 2 and finished not using the síntesis mechanics and oh boy was it hell if it wasnt for metal slime i wouldnt have made it as far
look out for mimics and the assortment of bag monsters that randomly spawn the bags especially when defeated give out thousands of gold but you have to kill it quickly because they will flee!
I remember playing the first Dragon Quest Monsters game where you had like the guy and his sister and the world had like a plug that was like unplugged like it was a shower drain that game was so hard when I first started out and I remember grinding on the final boss for like literal months and it pissed me off so much just to figure out after you meet him there was more stuff to do and I never finished it but it was so much fun
I didn't play the joker games but I played the english patch of the 3ds remake of DWM1 and loved it, and this looks very similar. Kinda bummed it didn't drop for pc, would much prefer to run it on my steam deck
I’m so excited about this game, I downloaded and played the demo with my kid and I got the full game for her for Christmas, looking forward to a Christmas Day play day
I have been greatly enjoying this one I was a bit hesitant since as a long time Dragon Quest Fan was worried that it would fuck with the Zenithian Trilogy I was happily surprised I always have so much trouble with your #2 I am like ok this time I am gonna wait til I beat the boss and by the time I do it I am like oh shit forgot to do it.
This is my game of the year, no questions asked! As someone who holds DQIV very near and dear as you well know, this title was sure to have me. I’d have to say I wish I knew about upgrading the talents because I haven’t played Monsters since I borrowed the original from a friend and never did finish it. The stat boosts and ability lists you can make are crazy and sure to help late game. I also wish I had known monster eggs were a thing and I somehow missed the medal collector until a little bit ago LOL. This is gonna have me very busy.
I played hours of the demo. I was kind of mad that your experience and money didn’t go over. But I am in it to win it. I am grinding and I am synthesizing. The story Seems someone lacking but the gameplay definitely does not. I love it.
One more trick about scouting that I noticed is different from the Joker games: You can throw a monster treat on the same turn you scout! In the previous iterations, the scout command cancels any item usage, so this is a welcome change if you wanted to boost your odds slightly but don't want to take a turn to cast Oomple/Kazing on your team and Sap on the target respectively!
I spent too much time synthesizing monsters without regard to their size and tried using them only to notice the monster was teeny tiny. Put me off. I made sure to only fuse larger monsters together if I wanted them bigger after that.
Are there difficulty levels? After buying super Mario rpg without knowing it was brain dead easy I’m skeptical on certain jrpgs. It does look very interesting
SMRPG remaster is way easier than the original. I beat the original a few years back, bought the remaster and then refunded it after a few hours because it felt like I was cheating with how easy it was. I wouldn't compare SMRPG to other games. I feel like they screwed up with that one.
When you synthesize, you get half of all the points the parent monsters had invested, along with half of their unspent points. You can't really reset as far as I know, but the synthesized monster resets to level 1, so you can easily earn more points and do this infinitely.
I've got 50 hours in and I don't see why you couldn't, it'd be a massive time sink though because most of them require synthing. You'll want the mole hole dlc to save you if getting them all is your goal
Sadly, there seems to be one problem: there are some promo codes for McDonalds x Dragon Quest in Japan, where you can get around 3 monsters. So unless you get the promo codes, you can't fully complete it.
In a previous game you received a certain monster called Captain Crow one time through the game story. He is not found anywhere else but is required for the synthesis of two different monsters. Unless you got another CC through trade, you were locked out of whichever monster you didn't synthesize. Hopefully that doesn't return this game.
Not so fun fact, the pvp in the game is entirely broken. Not because of status, because if you close your games you de-rank both players every time. It's entirely frauded, and you can't rank because of it. WHY is no one saying anything??
These were the worst tips I ever got for a video game. These are not things you NEED TO KNOW, these are things you discover when playing the game. Things you need to know are, that there are metal slimes in upper echelons which share spawnpoint with common monsters that give huge amounts of exp or liquid metal slimes and slime kings in upper echelons. They can be farmed for insane exp and get very good monsters early on. Also, dont synth your mon at lvl 10 right away, wait for lvl 12/14/17 (depends where you train) for them extra talenmtpoints. Bro never played a DQM Game smh

I really wish SquareEnix marketed this game. I don't want it to crash and burn preventing us from getting more great DQ spinoffs.
I could be wrong but I think they make DQ games mostly for Japanese people.
I've seen a lot of ads for it
its sold out everywhere here though (europe)
There're more spin off games than DQ and DQM games combined. I think you'll be okay.
