I love this interview because Omar and Cedric look like they're actually having fun! I'm glad Nardwuar could bring it out in them. They're so adorable too. The Mars Volta kick ass!
Omar and Cedric absolutely loved the weirdos, man… they still do. I think there was a level of respect they were showing Nard. With that respect comes a really fun and laid back interview.
How refreshing and nostalgic it is to see Omar and Cedric like that! Young, energetic, positive, having so much fun! That relates a lot to my old group of friends when we found out TMV and enjoyed it together.
I like how in every other TMV interview, they look like they aren't having fun because people take them WAAAAY too seriously, but in this one, they're rarely not laughing.
I can't believe Nardwuar missed the Puertorican connection between Omar Rodríguez López and Ron Reyes from Black Flag! Boricua punkrockers baby!!! Anyways dope interview, like always!
They likely are. It was mentioned in the first few minutes of the interview that Cedric and Omar opened for Narduwar’s old band while they were still running AtDI.
Rockstars from my home town El Paso Texas! Cedric and Omar had a band called Jerk in the early 90s. Omar Rodriguez’s father has a salsa band too. Crazy to think how successful they became. #chucotown #915
no, they stopped doing OPIATES, allegedly, only after the death of Jeremy Ward from a heroin overdose, right before the release of Deloused in the Comatorium, so well after the Mars Volta were formed. they definitely did a lot of drugs as at the drive-in haha.
i took care of Omar's dad at a restaurant in san antonio and is was incredibly humble. It was right after TMV won a grammy and performed and i was a huge fan so it was really cool taking care of him. Hearing that he had such an influence on Omar's music taste makes a lot of sense now!
I just got here from the Blur interview. Kind of shows that the quality of an artist's music is directly proportional to the way they treat interviewers.
A long time ago I was trying to remember a band name . Your answer @the swami is incorrect or maybe it’s correct ,but the answer I was looking for is 400 BLOWS on the Volcom Entertainment Recording Label.
these dudes have mellowed out considerably over the years, particularly Cedric. He came off like a humourless bastard in the ATDI days most of the time. good to see them acting this way nowadays.
One of Nardwuar's top 5 interview for me, and I've seen a lot LOL. Losses points for the Jim Ward diss. Jim, you are the man and were the soul of ATDI.
@@michaeledwards6683 we dont really know what goes on between the two of them we just get to read the rumors and information people put out on the internet and all we can do is give our opinions. only omar and jim truly know their own relationship with each other, unless both have publicly talked about each other, we can get a hint of what its like.

As a Latino weirdo I would totally be a friend of these guys. I've loved them ever since I first listened that great great album called Deloused in the Comatorium back in the summer of 2003. Been a fan since
this is one of the most informative and thorough interviews of one of the most innovative bands of the century!! I can't wait for our Nardwuar interview :D

yeah, its a shame. jim sounded great on the vocals in 2012 too. a new rolling stone article with omar seems to indicate that they arent on good terms, and it seems like omar and juan aldrete aren't on good terms either from what i can tell. i think ultimately cedric and omar are brothers and cedric wont do atdi without omar, and atdi cant play atdi shows without cedric as the frontman. its also such a shame they cant work it out since jeremy ward, jim's cousin, was so close with all of them
aligboyakasha .... Yeah, the only people who ARE on good terms with Omar besides Cedric are ass kissers, star fuckers and glad handers because Omar is a rude, condescending, egotistical prick who isn't a fraction as interesting as his music is or he THINKS he is. I could go on as to why but just take my word and that of past band mates; Omar is the egotistical, fascist, racist he claims to be completely against. Trust a man's actions, not his words.
i wouldve liked a nardwuar vs. at the drive-in, seeing as they kind of reunited this past year for a festival run. hopefully that still happens. i'm sure nard would totally nail omar on the jim ward diss.
Interesting what people in the comments are saying when just last week I saw Cedric destroy some fan on Instagram just for asking if they were gonna play a song.
The Mars Volta are the only dudes that really vibe with nardwuar because they love and embrace the weirdos like him. That's their tribe and they speak that language. In the early days where Narduwar wasn't an established interviewer, the people that tried their hardest to seem normal rejected and bullied Nardwuar because they couldn't confront him being the manifestation of the thing which they suppress. Nowadays, the only reason most people don't give Nardwuar a hard time is because he is well respected within the industry, but if it weren't for that, they wouldn't be polite with Nardwuar.

Well your wish is coming true cause theyre touring with the red hot chili peppers

i think the camera quality does a lot too. makes it feel like theres just another dude filming with a little camers goofing around
They likely are. It was mentioned in the first few minutes of the interview that Cedric and Omar opened for Narduwar’s old band while they were still running AtDI.
I feel like Jim left ATDI after the reunion because he saw or rewatched this video
If you are curious, Omar names this salsa artists:
-Larry Harlow (Album: El Exigente)
-Charlie Palmieri
-Héctor Lavoe
-Willie Colón
-Johnny Pacheco
Thanks for this. I remember my extended family always playing Harlow and Willie when I was a kid at parties.
This is *exactly* what I was hoping to find in the comments, you're a saint
Yomo Toro rips on those Willie Colon albums
lol I love how Omar and Cedric are so game for Nardwuar's antics and comedic sensibilities.
lol they must have been high during this interview because they are laughing the whole time.
All the laughter is contagious :)
Nardwuar must do so much research on his interviewees before he meets 'em… Just another outrageously good interview...

by this point that had really taken their drug use down many notches. they still smoked weed and used psychedelics creatively though
