I don't frankly see the Magnet Spike appearing in the main series, but a modified version of the Tonfas could definitely make it and has a niche to fill (fast blunt weapon), I hope we see it in the next Monster Hunter after Sunbreak.
I always loved the idea of straight up punching monsters to death. I'd love to see a more grounded version of the Tonfas introduced in the future, however unlikely that may be..!
The fact that some MHF devs have been incorporated into the MH “portable” team (quotations because the separation between the MH dev teams seems to be less than in the past) supports the idea that the Frontier weapons could be making a return in future games. We’ve already started to see the effects of this shift with the return of Espinas and i think it seems likely we will see more of these monsters sprinkled into roster updates moving forward. I feel like the Frontier team had some first class devs on it, and although Frontier was shut down, Capcom is wise enough not to let good talent go to waste. So they are bringing these folks onto the main MH dev teams and with them come all the expertise of working with these Frontier monsters and weapons. From a cost efficiency standpoint, by bringing Frontier monsters into the game, they’re able to develop a monster for which a good chunk of the work has already been done, in terms of combat & visual design, animation and rigging, etc. And although I’m sure it still takes a ton of work updating those monsters for a more modern engine, they can skip the initial design phases and dive right into actually making the thing. Edit: wow, i didn’t mean to type that much! Thanks for coming to my ted talk :)
The storm style gameplay looks super cool. Not at all what I think of when I think of tonfas, but definitely the gameplay I'd go for if I were to ever get my hands on them.
Storm Style tonfas are my absolute favorite and if we get any iteration of a frontier weapon in mainline, I hope they bring that exact play style over with the weapon. Great video.
I've been wanting tonfas to be added into the main series for a long time now. I really hope they bring it, and maybe a heavily nerfed magnet spikes in MH6, or whenever. I feel it's about time for new weapons.

the next weapon, if there ever is one, has to be Tonfa or Magnet Spike. Theyre already as complex, if not more complex than the weapons are in Rise. Much easier to take from Frontier than to make an entirely new weapon
I'm still disappointed and kind of surprised they didn't use the setting of Rise as a reason to introduce something like the chain blades from Dauntless, or try to introduce the throwing weapon concept they had ages ago. They'd fit perfectly with the ninja village theme Rise has.
@@F3N01 I’ve always thought a kusarigama would make an excellent MH weapon. If you’ve ever played Nioh it’s a blast to play in that game, and it’s definitely an inspiration for the chain blades you mentioned. The difference is a kusarigama will often have a blade on one end and a blunt metal weight or spiked ball on the other end. So it could potentially do slashing or blunt damage depending on the mode you’re in, and in exchange for that flexibility you would have high animation commitments, even though the attacks would be spinning and doing multiple hits. Tonfas are also a lot of fun in the Nioh games, hell every weapon is fun in those games, it’s the only combat system I’ve played that rivals the holy grail that is MH combat.
I think they could rework Tonfa into MonHunWilds, make it so it works like MonHunRiseBreak having to choose 3 of the styles into 2 baked into the weapon.
I really hope this gets brought back for Wilds with a redesign. So far the mainline weapons cover everything but the basic "hands-free" combat, the closest it ever got indeed looks to be Tonfa. I only discovered this weapon's existence just now, but previously whenever I thought of a brawler-styled weapon, I'd imagine something very similar. It just makes sense!
My favourite thing about Frontier is how as you progress in the ranks you go from playing Monster Hunter Freedom Unite to playing Metal Gear Rising except it's all the part at the beginning where he cuts the metal gear in half- and you have the option of doing it either as the strongest being in the Monster Hunter universe, or as a hammer main.
How were the ranged weapons and specifically the bow like in Frontier? Through the years I watched a lot of Japanese TH-camrs play Frontier and the only weapons I would ever see them use were Great Sword, Long Sword, Dual Blades, SnS, Lance, Switch Axe F, Tonfas and Magnet Spike. There is almost no footage of the other weapons being used on TH-cam. Though I guess I can maybe try and search on Niconico. Hunting Horn is also something I am curious about since I have never seen a single second of gameplay of it in Frontier

I wish we get the tonfas in main games (tuned a bit down of course) would be fun having another blunt alternative weapon to shame Hammer users with. They could have a mix of both ground based styles so they don't get too ridiculous. If the concept of skill changes is mantained from Rise they could just make you choose the triangle attack to be the EX charged stun hits or the EX multihit evade/spin.
If tonfas were to make it into the main series, I hope it's closer to how you describe storm style. Maybe one or two airial options, but mostly focused on that boxing style.
