    Maxi Scooters are the best touring option anywhere. 90mph, beats anything at the lights including bigger bikes, superb storage, brilliant on tight twisty switchbacks being automatic, all day comfort, pillion comfort, easy to jump on and off so you stop more to look at views, 100mpg, no chain maintenance, cheap tyres. I have been recently converted, save big bikes for local sunday blast / popping to the local cafe.

    What a great ride out, actually sunnier here today than over there for once. Thunder and lightning, raining and cold and you wonder why no one is there 😃 not everyone is as daft as us bikers. But what a great trip on a small bike, I think it gives you more time to see what's passing you by. Just takes a little longer that's all, but that isn't a bad thing.

    Local tip.. Careful when using google maps when traveling in rural Indonesia. It will send you through most remote and tiniest roads just to safe a mere minutes of traveling time. Plan ahead.. and just choose to the main roads if possible. Many people ironically got lost by using gmaps and ended up dirt roads and stuck in rice fields.

I came in from the north and had to ride some sketchy roads, chased by dogs etc. Funny how you feel like you're trespassing on those roads. Freddie, another great Sunday morning adventure, it’s really amazing how the temperature drops so dramatically as you gain altitude, even in a tropical setting like Bali. How does that camera following you from above and behind work, it looks like it’s about 4’ above you and a few feet behind so is it on a long extendable wand? Amazing view.

    • @FreddieDobbs
      @FreddieDobbs  ปีที่แล้ว

      Really glad you enjoyed it, Nick. You’re spot on; it’s a very long selfie stick that can be extended a huge distance, with the Insta360 camera. It’s incredibly easy to use and films a 360 degree view.

    Fascinating video Freddie, still catching up on your vlogs after returning Friday from a two week cruise from Tenerife to Malta, clear blue sky all the way while the U.K. was cold and soaking, bizarre how distances and locations change the weather so much, hill sides full of palm trees, banana plantations and paddy fields by the road make beautiful videos well done both. Ride safe.

    I'm guessing I've followed you and Monika for some time now, but this calls for the saying "you've got - - - - - " . You headed off in Tenerife but this is a different world in Bali, thanks all that green was overwhelming. A word on the suspension Freddie. Do the shocks not have adjustable preload setting ? Normally a stepped collar above or below the spring thats turned to stiffen or soften the suspension. Martin.

    • @FreddieDobbs
      @FreddieDobbs  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m going to sound very pathetic here, Martin… I have no idea how to do it. It looks like a special tool’s needed to adjust it. I need to stop being lazy and actually do something about it

    • @splodge57
      @splodge57 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had this problem on my Honda Forza. Standard setting rock hard. 5 minutes softening 2 notches on the preload and it transformed the ride. Tool in the scooters toolkit.

Not that I am dissing it, but the missenden flyer’s recent tours of Canada and Spain are too money driven. Your’s however have genuine drama and peril. Nice touch with the riding gear. These are the kind of trips that I take on my 2009 Yamaha Vino 50cc 4-stroke. I can go up mountains with a lightweight scooter without a lot of petrol required. You can download offline maps for when you don't have phone signal, but sometimes it's good to just go. I usually have a 2nd old smartphone just for maps while the other is charged via USB. I wish an affordable retro scooter more than 50cc with ABS, traction control, and generous under-seat storage existed. The Piaggio Liberty 150 is just aesthetically off for me, but may end up with it some day.

    It's not true exploration and adventuring unless there's a bit of discomfort involved! 😁 Great vid, Freddie.

    Are you able to reduce the pre-load damping on that shock Freddie? ..And I know you like it, but I have to seriously challenge Yamaha's claim of a "central spine" making the N-Max (remember the V Max? .. 😆) not a step thru'. I'd sooo be on the hunt for a Trail Bike if I were you. (Your Bonnie only returns 47 m.p.g.? Darn, that's almost as bad as my Scooter.. Incidentally, my XL500R returned 70 m.p.g. - I miss my little Honda.)

    If: 1. You had worn or packed proper protective clothing 2. Started at say 7:30 instead of 11:30 3. brought a battery bank for your phone, you might have made it all the way. But what do I know? I'm just an idiot whose wing mirror was only held on by luck on the A30 today and who nearly dropped his bike arriving at Exeter. so I probably need to take my own advice.
